How to make a Signature Guide 2.0

How to make a Signature Guide 2.0

By: D3NNIS60

Intro:

This FAQ will tell you how to; link your signature in a new or the same window, have it in bold and italiac letters, any color you want, choose your font size, add really cool symbols, have strikeouts and underlines, make subscripts and superscripts, postional codes, font styles, horizontal lines, bullet listing, and quotes.

Signature?

A signature is a statement/link that goes into every one of your post. The signature is below your post seperated by a thin line. You can make this an link to one of your favorite websites that you think many people would want to go to, make a funny statement, or use it as an advertising tool.

In order to change your signature you must go to Preferences. Starting from the Xbox Homepage; go to

My Xbox > My Forums > Preferences > Signature or

My Xbox > Manage Profile > Forum Prefernces > Signature

Link Your Signature:

In order to link your signature, you need to place codes on both sides of your text you want your signature in.

When you link your sig., you must enter the URL, as you may know the URL takes up alot of room, due to the 125 character limit in your signature. If you have a long URL, that takes up too much room, you can go to wurl.ca to shorten the URL. This works by copy/pasting your original URL into the box shown at the top left of the webpage. Then click "Make Short" and now your URL will be very much shorter, still bringing you to the original website. Below is an example:

Original - http://forums.xbox.com/11522558/ShowPost.aspx.

New - http://wurl.ca/?r=4d

This will save room in your signature to add more creative ideas.

Red- Your text goes there   Delete these icons when put into signature *   Green- Codes, do not delete.

Link for a new window:

[*url=URL for your site]TEXT[*/url]

Link for the same window:

<a href="URL for your site">TEXT</a>

Bold and Italic Letters:

Red- Your text goes there  Green- Codes, do not delete

Bold:

<b>TEXT</b>

Italiac:

<i>TEXT</i>

Color:

Red- Your text goes there   Green- Codes, do not delete

These numbers (#000000) represent the color code in order to choose what color you want, links for color codes are provided below the Color Signature.

<font color="#000000">TEXT</font>

LINK In order to see the reccomended codes for colors, scroll over the colors and click "zoom in" the codes are at top of each in color in bold.

LINK This link is very simple, just scroll to color you want for your signature and the code is given to you on the color choice.

Font Size and Font Styles:

Red- Your text goes there  Green- Codes, do not delete

Your font size can only be from 1-7. The default text size is 3.

<FONT SIZE=Font Size Number>TEXT<FONT>

Font Styles:

Font styles are Arial, Times New Roman, Courier, etc.

<font face="font style">TEXT</font>

Symbols:

Symbols are smile faces, upsidedown question marks, etc.

Start at the "Start" button at the bottom left corner on your screen.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map

Once your on the Character Map, you will have a wide variety of character choices. Double-click the character you want and then copy/paste into your signature.

Strikeouts and Underlines:

Red- Your text goes there   Green- Codes, do not delete

Strikeouts:

<Strike>TEXT</Strike>

Underlines:

<u>TEXT</u>

Subscripts and Superscripts:

Red- Your text goes there   Green- Codes, do not delete

Subsripts:

TEXT

Superscripts:

TEXT

Positional Codes

These codes will postion your text either to right, center, or left of your signature space.

Red- Your text goes there   Green- Codes, do not delete

Right:

<p align="right">TEXT</p>

Center:

<p align="center">TEXT</p>

Left:

<p align="left">TEXT</p>

Horizontal Line:

This horizontal line is a long line as thin as the line that seperates the quote from the post, which can be used for seperating sections of your signature.

Red- Your text goes there   Green- Codes, do not delete

<hr>TEXT</hr>

Bullet Listing:

Red- Your text goes there   Green- Codes, do not delete

<li>TEXT</li>

Quotes:

Red- Your text goes there   Delete these icons when put into signature *   Green- Codes, do not delete.

[*quote user="Gamertag"]Quote[*/quote]

Combining Signature Styles:

In order to combine all the styles of your signature, you must copy/paste the examples I have given you one by one.

Ex. If you want to have a signature with a link for a new window and bold, you must do this:

Red- Your text goes there   Delete these icons when put into signature * Green- Link for new window codes, do not delete Violet- Bold Code, do not delete

<b>[*url=URL for your site]TEXT[*/url]</b>

You can do this exact combination, with different styles, and it will work. The same rule applies with three different styles, four styles, and so on. Remember, you only have a limit of 125 characters in a signature.

Closing:

I hope you found this information useful, now your imagination can go wild with your signature.

If you have any problems, PM me and I'll help out.

Nice tutorial.

I have a signature generator site  that lets people create their own sig for forums. The sigs are images so you wouldn't be able to use them here but check it out if you want one for another forum etc.

Most likely the same reason as why gamerpics are predefined, i.e. there would be people using inappropriate and/or copyright licensed material in their signatures and trying to keep it all in control would be too massive a task. It would also make the forums look cluttered, load slower, etc.

Very nice FaQ! Helpful. Hey venom, could I have one of those sigs? Could I have one like yours just using the name "Parrappa" instead? Very cool.

Have to admit, great work D3NNIS60! Much more convenient to refer to this thread than explain it all over and over again. The marketplace micro-transactions work fine and the micro-FAQs just the same :)
