Catan is awesome, but we need more Board Games

As cool as Catan is, I'm thinking we should have more board games.  Microsoft should partner with Fantasy Flight Games and bring some of these to Xbox Live Arcade.  Arkham Horror would be a nice start.  Or how about Twilight Imperium.  I would love to see both those games come to XBLA.  What do you guys think?

yeh, more board games would be cool. never heard of those btw, but they sound cool. (I'm a lovecraft fan, so...) A lot of people ask for chess, monopoly, and risk; and I think some or all of those are in the works.. I'd like to see Diplomacy, Axis&Allies, any of the old Avalon Hill games. I would especially like to see something like Zombies!!!, but it would have to be different; the standard rules for it stink, frankly.

The best part about the slower paced board games is that they remove lag/conn as a factor.(theoretically, dcs aside of course) I mean, the net and computers and all that's great, but handling split second stuff between multiple players around the world is too much. No need to stress the capabilities- make/use games that are forgiving of a second or two lag. Just my two cents.

Ray, the cool thing about Arkham Horror is that there is virtually no PvP (player vs player).  The point of the game is to work cooperatively to beat the game itself.  Sounds strange, but it works quite well.  Definitely one of my favorites.

Definately more board games needed.  The cool thing about them is that they appeal to a wider audience.  I regularly play Catan/Uno with family members (old and young) across the UK.

Some more classic games Id like to see:

(the big 5 from MB)
**Axis and Allies (MUST; this game is a classic wargame)
*Fortress America (the unknown MB boardgame- not many like it, but its a great one)
*Conquest of the Empire (6 player in ancient Rome; infantry, generals, and catapults oh my Smile [:)]
*Shogun (great battles Ancient Japan; Ninjas too!)
*Broadsides and Boarding parties (Pirates is like this, so I would understand not making this one)

Others could include:
* Puerto Rico (in the works now Big Smile [:D])
* Circus Maxamius (Chariot Racing - gotta love it)
* Railroad Tycoon (board game - rocks for the economic gamers)
* Supremacy (modern day Axis & allies with nukes)
* Risk and Risk 2210 (gotta love Risk)

Thanks - Joe Striker

Arkham Horror would be awesome on XBLA, 'cause playing the actual thing is a pain in the tukus (it's got 12152634162543612 little pieces that the kittens are always trying to eat).

I'd like to see the other Catan games (Seafarers, Starfarers), and stuff like Tigris & Euphrates, El Grande, ROBO RALLY!, La Citta, Vinci, Verräter, Princes of Florence...  Maybe even stuff like Bang!, Werewolf, Bohnanza, etc.

I agree on bringing some of the old Avalon Hill catalog to XBLA.  Kudos to the person who mentioned Robo Rally as well!

Would also like to see some Games Workshop titles converted to XBLA...Warhammer Quest, Blood Bowl, etc.

I would vote for RISK, and some type of online monopoly.  I am still waiting for some type of online game show to make an apperance like Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.

Yes, anything by Avalon Hill would be great.

Someone mentioned Games Workshop?  Talisman is coming out at some point on XBLA - wasn't that Games Workshop?

I agree this would be a great game for XBLA.  I'd like to see some more CCG type games on here.

Yes Talisman was a Games Workshop title as well.  I'd much prefer Blood Bowl or Warhammer Quest though.

While good ideas, the big problem with games such as Twilight Imperium, Diplomacy and Axis & Allies is that good games of these last 3-4 hours.  Heck, I've had a game of Diplomacy last a day and a half.  Don't know if you can keep enough people interested in them if there are some who feel that Catan takes too long, or more to the point, long enough to require a save feature.

I agree.

A save feature would be a must if they were to incorporate some of these longer lasting games.  I'd be all for it though; I just hope there interest is there.

Only played it once but Killer Bunnies was a fun little game.  How about Munchkin for a Live card game?  As for board games, how about Cosmic Encounters?  And someone said Talisman is coming to XBLA?  Freakin' sweet!  I'd also like to see the Catan expansions like Knights of Catan and Seafarers of Catan.  Maybe even Spacefarers, though I haven't played that one yet.

I agree in that the boards games are extremely popular and would sell tremendously on Live.

I disagree because I've noticed with the flood of Microsoft Arcade Games that the more new games out there that the less people play the older ones.

I'm thinking Catan will be hard to find ranked matches after 5 or 6 months imo.

I loved Fortress America.  Did you get the early version that had Sadam Hussain on the cover (pre-Desert Storm), or the later version where they just pretty much added sunglasses to him.

This game gets my vote.  I'd love to see a Live version of it.  No crayons to worry about, no banker to steal money (yes, that's happened), to rules disputes, and lots of available players online.  This is another one of those games that changes every time you play it, and calls for multiple strategies to win.

Circus Maximus would be fun also.

I'll throw out another one:  Nuclear War.  But, given how nasty some of the Catan players can be in the heat of the game, I'd hate to hear the comments from some of these guys when their cities get wiped out.  The game can get pretty ruthless.

Nuclear War would be awesome.  Would you want it without the expansions to begin with to keep it simple or just have them go all out with the countries and all the special cards?

Another game I just played today that would be amazing to see on XBLA would be Robo Rally.  Definitely another game that would have the explitives flying.

Although the expansions are nice, the basic game is just fine.  I'd like to see them keep it simple, and maybe release expansion packs later.  The only problem with that is finding someone else to play with that also has the expansions.

That's a game I always wanted to play, but never did.

There are so many really good board games out there that require either a lot of set up time, long play time, or a bunch of players, that make it hard to play casually.  That's a advantage that the releases on Xbox Live have.  Everything moves faster, and there's always somebody out there waiting to play.

Let's hope that this game is successful enough that we'll see lots more.

Re: Catan is awesome, but we need more Board Games

A lot of these board game suggestions are nice, but they last too long. Even putting in a save feature wouldn't work. Are you going to get the same people to get together again another time? I doubt it. Sure, friends might, but that just doesn't work on live. You need to be able to finish games with the random people you meet.

Games that would be good and that aren't long are:

- Powergrid

- Caylus

- Puerto Rico

- Bonanza

- Alhambra

Well, I could go on with more. But those would do really well.
