1. INTRODUCTION

CSI: Hard Evidence is the fifth game that brings the exitement of the
successful CSI franchise to your PC. Its predecessors are CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation, CSI: Dark Motives, CSI: Miami and CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder.
This game is the first which uses a real kit to select items from instead of
symbols as well as a PDA for your evidence, the case file, the places you can
visit and the options. It is also the first game that features Thoroughness
Points which influence your case evaluation. Also you can find five insects in
each level that will get you additional bonus features. Another new feature is
the CSI garage in which you can investigate vehicles. As in any CSI game you
will be able to solve five different cases.

2. THE CASES

Since I don't want to spoil any fun for people reading this before solving any
of those cases I will keep it very brief.

Case 1:  BURNING FOR YOU
In the first case of the game you investigate the murder of a cab driver, who
was burnt alive.

Case 2: DOUBLE DOWN
The second case features an assault of a young female in her home.

Case 3: SHOCK ROCK
Quadruple homicide. The rock band Bullet Train plus their aspirng new singer
are electrocuted on a sound stage during a rehearsal.

Case 4: IN YOUR EYES
An eye specialist is found murdered in his bed leaving behind his blind wife
as your only witness.

Case 5: THE PEACEMAKER
In your last case you will investigate an old-school Vegas cowboy shootout in
today's world. On your way you will meet some fresh faces as well as suspects
from the past.

3. PLACES OF INTEREST

Brass' office:
Brass office can be visited in every case via your PDA. He will do all the
neccessary police work for you, including getting Questioning Warrants, Search
Warrants and most importantly Arrest Warrants.

The Morgue:
Al Robbins will have answers for you regarding time and cause of deaths as well
as different medical subjects. Don't miss checking the table next to him for
personal items of the victims.

The Lab:
Another place you can visit in every case. Here you will find the Assembly
Table where you can put broken or torn pieces of evidence back together and
which also substitutes the ballistics lab. On the Comparison Microscope you
get the chance to compare different pieces of fabric, bullets, toolmarks, etc.
The Trace Analysis Computer is your friend when you need to check the finger-
and shoe-print or tire databases, audio and video analysis as well as special
searches e.g. for encrypted data on your USB stick. The DNA Database will give
you the chance to match different samples of DNA as well as search for the
unknown. Finally you have the Chemical Analyzer which allows you to, well
analyze samples of chemicals you collect on your way.

The Mobile Lab:
A mini lab in your car. You will access this one in two cases. It has access
to smaller databases but it is useful while being in the field and adds a
sense of realism. It also misses out the assembly table feature. However it
will work for your quick fingerprint comparison before you can access the
stationary lab again.

The Interrogation Room:
After Brass gives you a warrant you are able to interrogate your suspects in
this room. A new feature allows you to call Brass on your cell phone to bring
a suspect in custody back to the room without needing to constantly go back
to his office.

The Garage:
Another place that will be used in some of the cases you work on. Here you
can investigate vehicles for new evidence.

Other places:
In every case you will have a crime scene as well as 4 - 5 different places to
visit as you play on. Some of these places you will see more often than you
might expect.

4. THE KIT:

Your kit is divided into two parts, collection and detection.

Collection:
Tweezers: Collects smaller pieces of evidence
IntegriSwab: Collects and preserves wet or dried stains
Mikrosil: Collects molds of tool impressions
Adhesive Lifting Tape: Lifts and preserves trace materials or deposits
Adhesive Mount: Collects powder or residue samples from most surfaces
Casting Plaster And Frame: Takes plaster casts of deep impressions
Digital SLR Camera: Documents visual relationships and patterns
Latex Gloves: Collects larger pieces of evidence

Detection:
Fingerprint Brush And Powder: Enhances fingerprints on smooth, polished
surfaces
Magnetic Brush And Powder: Enhances fingerprints on wood surfaces
Leuko Crystal Violet: Identifies trace amounts of dried blood
Ninhydrin: Enhances fingerprints on paper or porous surfaces
Luminol: Reveals latent or washed blood, often in dark areas
USA Data Drive: Detects encrypted computer files
High-Powered Flashlight: Illuminates dark areas
Ultra-Violet (UV) Tool: Renders invisible evidence, including fluids

5. GENERAL ADVISE:

Talk to everyone and check everything you can find for more evidence. Don't
get overly nervous if you don't see the green check in the corner of your
location screens (it indicates that you haven't found everything here) until
you really get stuck with everything you do or until you get the arrest
warrant. Sometimes you will not find specific evidence because it is out of
context and can only be found later on after one of your fellow CSIs in the
lab notifies you about it. Be careful when you get your arrest warrant though
because it means that you have found the right suspect and your case will be
closed after interrogation even if you haven't found everything which lowers
your overall evaluation.

6. WALKTHROUGH
Warning: This walkthrough will ruin your gaming pleasure. If you only need to
find a single piece of evidence be sure to check the items list first. If
you're still stuck you will find that the item names in the list and the
walkthrough are the same (same names as evidence in your in-game file), so
just use the search function for the location of your evidence. Have fun.

Nick Stokes will be your partner on this case.
After you've recieved your instructions click your PDA and head over to the
crime scene.

The Alley (Crime Scene)
Take a look at the seal on the cab.
Click on the back of the cab.
Use the Camera to take a Picture of the Crime Scene.
Move closer and take a Picture of Burnt Body.
Find the shoe print on the ground. It's located on the right side of the car.
Use the tweezers to collect Red Plastic.
Cast the Footprint from Crime Scene.
Turn left.
Open the dumpster to find your first insect.
Use the Gloves to collect the Gas Can from Crime Scene next to the dumpster.
Check the chainlink fence.
Click on the metal plate to get your first Thoroughness Point (TP).
Use the Gloves to collect piece of Blue Jean Cloth.
Examine the evidence.
Use Tweezers to get Flake from Blue Jean Cloth.
Turn right.

11. FAQ

Q: Why aren't the fingerprints I found placed in my evidence folder?
A: You might have forgot to lift the prints after using the ordinary or
magnetic brush and powder with the adhesive lifting tape.

Q: I have searched every pixel of the screen and I still haven't found all
the evidence in the location! What am I doing wrong?
A: In some cases you're unable to find certain evidence at first visit.
Process what you've found and check back later. In most cases you will recieve
a phone call or a face-to-face message of your fellow CSIs (in most cases Sara
or Grissom) that will advise you to go and check something again. It's not
your fault because it is evidence out of context. If that isn't the case just
check the items list or the walkthrough before you go crazy ;-)

Q: I repeatedly get a message saying "There's more to be done with that item".
What's up with that?
A: You will need to check the item in question for more clues before you can
e.g. place it on the assembly table for further analysis.

Q: How do I get into the windmill?
A: You will need to further your investigation first. You will get a warrant
from Brass late in the case.

Q: I have found all evidence at the crime scene and analyzed everything but
now I'm stuck in the mobile lab!
A: You probably overlooked prints on your pieces of evidence. In most cases
you only need to match the prints and DNA samples you found in the mobile lab
before being able to go back to the normal lab.

Q: I lifted a partial print. Now I cant match it to anything. What to do?
A: You need to drag the partial to a full print found in a database or in your
evidence. You will notice that each full print is divided into 4 squares once
you have a partial on the other side. Drag the partial into the right square
and confirm the match.

Q: How do I put the pieces of the taillight back together on the assembly
table?
A: You will need another piece of evidence first. The small fragments wont
help.

Q: I am missing a piece of evidence. Where is it?
A: Check the Items List first. Maybe that will give you a clue on where to
find it. If you still can't find it check the walkthrough.

Thats wicked mate....

i have done the hole game all byself (very proud lol) but could do with some help on the *peacemaker*

i am actually stuck on the part, i dont know what to do ? ok i click on bullet holes but nothing happens? and i need to do this to move on ...

*Old West Tourist Museum (Crime Scene)
Click the eight bullet holes to set up lasers:
- wall behind the counter
- wall behind the counter, near the postcards
- dummy's shoulder
- dummy's heart
- cash register
- floor 
- window sill
- behind t-shirt rack
Use Gloves to get Glass Shards from Tourist Museum Case*

I worked out how to do the lasers (i didnt do all my evidence at the lab) BUT i can not find the broken case to get the shards from?

It's the display case under the cash register, right where the victim was found, where all the display guns are.

i got it cheers, the dummys didnt show up till i did all my evidance.. now its just putting the glass back together.. urghhh

My suggestion is not to use the guide unless you get stuck, otherwise the game will be extremely boring =]

Stuck on case 5. It won't let me put the laser to the bullet behind the t-shirts. When I tried the guy said something but I didn't hear what.

Also, what is the tourist museum case? Can't find the glass parts.

Hrm, did you recover that bullet behind the T_shirts? that might be why you can't click

Hello! I cant find  the bootle, straw and most of the evidences at the crime scene... The guide mentions to search in the space between the speakers but I am not sure which speaker it is reffering to. Are those the 2 sets of speakers in each side of the drums?

In case anyone else is wondering the bottle and the straw are in behind the speakers and you must use your flashlight to find them.

most definately. it could be done on a lazy sunday, or in about 5 days easily if you played 1 case a night. (2-4 hours per case depending on if you use the walkthrough or not)

This is a little past half way. Im using the cursor all over the table next to Grisom but it is not turning green.  Also,  I checked next to his feet and there was no metal pieces.
