No, this isn't a new or updated game with new code. This is the classic Halo: Combat Evolved. The coolness is that you can download it over Xbox LIVE--you don't have to mess with a disc.

Just to let you know (if you didn't already) that if the Xbox games were treated like Arcade games with Online & Achievements it would be a huge amount of $$$ for the service.

Now that I know we can't connect to our friends through LIVE, you lost 30+ people on my list that would of forked over the $15.

Looks like I'll just be picking up (err...downloading) the single player games, is there a release date schedule in the works?

We gamers always want new, updated, or patched versions of our favorite past games!  While I think this service is a good idea, maybe even great, it would truly be wonderful if say, Halo could be played online... we can dream!

Re: Welcome!

What sort of file size will these be? Will there be any performance improvements over the previous Backwards Compatibility versions? (ie Halo has framerate issues, especially in splitscreen mode).

This service is definitely a very nice, unexpected surprise, and the pricing is nicely modest too, which is good. Fable and Psychonauts are my definite purchases at the moment... I heard Fahrenheit mentioned on another website too. I hope that comes :)

Thanks

No achievements = Poor Sales

I have most of the games that are listed for December 4th.  If they had achievements I would re buy and download them... Without achievements there is no reason for me to purchase.

Re: Welcome!

Exactly.

I already own Halo & Halo 2 on disc.

I would gladly pay to get updated versions with acheivements (I have Halo2PC, but it's specs are still a little too beefy right now) and online MP for Halo.

Otherwise I could go pick up used copies of these games for less than is being charged.

I would have rather MS spent the time developing actual feature updates to the console than just giving us different ways to purchase the same exact games :(

Re: Welcome!

Do you mean single, affordable price in the GameTap sense, or the iTunes sense?.. huge difference.  (If iTunes sense I'll stick to rooting around used game bins, thanks)

resolutions and widescreen support?

it seems these will be identical to the original game disks but I still would like to ask, will games that previously did not support widescreen now be able to play on widescreen such as halo, crimson skies, etc?  It always drove me nuts playing those two on a widescreen TV and being forced to play with half the screen unused.  I also suppose it's too much to hope that they will support any higher resolutions?  If not, is there any possibility of getting those options in updates in the future?

I'm curious about this too as I'm seeing nothing about a single, affordable price.

I'm seeing it as separate payments for each game according to the press release.

I think that it's awesome that we're getting this. 15 bucks for Halo is pretty decent considering it still retails for 30+ dollars. I'm really glad to see that there are documented known-issues on the website as well. I wrote a news post at my website linked in my sig if anyone is interested.

Microsoft have to realise that, by doing this, they are losing MANY sales.

I'd say that about 3/4 of Xbox owners already have Halo CE, and many already play it by using the backwards compatibilty. The Online Multiplayer was going to be the sealer for me, I would have shelled out $30+ dollars for it, and I suspect many other Halo fans would have also.

No one cares about 'messing with a disc', they're certainly not going to re-pay $15 for something they already have, just so they do not need to get off their backsides.

My opinion anyway, I'm sure there are some others who agree.

Ta.

Re: Welcome!
What you just said, Dave 88, is exactly the opposite of me. I will be paying 15 bucks (20, since I'm Canadian.. grrr) for Halo AGAIN, because it's totally rad. I don't want an Xbox disc, and if I can play this while chatting that'd be a welcome bonus.

Trix, can we still use our 360 Live account features like chat and messages while playing these titles?

No Achivements = No Spending Points
It's a shame really... I would have bought damn near all of these if they had achivements added to them... Do they have the Guide? or is that gimped like the BC Disc versions too?

Re: Welcome!

My biggest question is: Will there be any achievements (Gamerscore) available for these older games. And if so, will they be 1000 points or 200 points? Other than that, my only concern is size. How much space will they take up on my hard drive?

Trixie's original post in this thread mentions a "single, affordable price".  If that means $15 (perhaps $15/yr?) for all you can eat Xbox 1 games (which isn't that unreasonable of an idea considering GameTap's model and the fact that Xbox games otherwise aren't selling in the retail channel in any way that the developers/publishers/MS get any money from), I'd sign up in a second.   If they are selling these individually for $15/game... no way... that is WAY too expensive, especially for the lower tier games (eg. everything listed so far that isn't Halo).  Much better off ebaying them or getting them at Gamestop or whatever.

I don't think im going to get any orignals if they don't get some shiney new gadget like widescreen support, and the guide buttion being enabled when playing these orignal games. 15$ is too much for nothing to be improved, better off with 5-10$ used at gamestop.

No I was agreeing with you.  I saw what trixie posted, but in the actually press release and on the site it says nothing about this single, affordable price.  It lists a price per game.

Unless she slipped and said something she didn't mean to say ;)

Too bad there isn't multiplayer for Halo.  That would've made 238423535843583459 people buy it.

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy any of these originals. Looks like these games will be like the same thing you would get if you bought the retail copy. If there are no achievements, no visual updates, no functionality updates (private chatting while  playing the game), then forget about it.

I'm not about to pay 1,200 points for something that was not improved upon.

Ouch, I was hoping for the Lost Chapters, as I never got that one, so I might hold off buying that one, But Burnout3 is a definate purchase even though I still have the disc, the game is just so damn good! it needs to be bought twice!

Im not gona pay $15 just to play an xbox 1 game if there isnt any type of updates to it. I dont care if all that gets added is the guide button use again. atleast i can track my games then when i play them. and download size has me wondering to wether it would be worth it.

Re: Welcome!

I don't think this is aimed at players who have kept hold of their original Xbox's and have vast games collections, if you do already have the discs for these games you should probably use your hd space for new demo's, DLC and arcade games instead.

But, for new gamers who haven't played the games before or for those who have traded in these titles but want to play them again, it is a good thing!

Isn't there a patch that could be ported as well to give the Halo a system-link on-line capability just like XBC???

I know they have the resources to do it!!
