XBOX 360 video output problem

Ok, this might get complicated, but bear with me!

I got Assassins Creed today so I was playing that when all of a sudden the graphics went all funny coloured, and then went completely, my TV said there was no input.  I still had audio, just no video.

Luckily I live with my brother and he has a 360, so I put my console on his TV and got the same thing.  I tried it without a hard disk in and still no video output on either TV.  But here's where it gets really complicated...

I put his console on my TV and it worked fine.  Then I put my hard disk on his console, put it on my TV and there was no video output.  But I've also put my hard disk into his console but on his TV, and it worked fine.

So to sum up..

My console + my HDD + my TV = no video.

My console + my HDD + brother's TV = no video.

Brother's console + my HDD + brother's TV = fine

brother's console + my HDD + my TV = no video

Brother's console + brother's HDD + my TV = fine

I'm completely baffled.  I've phoned Microsoft and they're getting me a replacement for free (luckily I'm about 1 week inside my warranty) but what I don't want is for the replacement to come and have the same problems when it's hooked up to my HDD.

Anyone have any thoughts/ideas?

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

I am out of warrantee and just got the same problem.  Playing PGR4 the blues were replaced with yellows.  OFF/ON and it would work OK for hours.  Now I turn it on and no video on the HD outputs.

If I switch to Composite video out, it works just fine, although one startup still yielded the yellow colorations.

Is this a "send it in for repair" thing, I suppose.  I do not get any red lights, so I don't think the extended warrantee will help me.

Had the same thing happen last night playin Call of duty 4, graphics went mad then no output (video or sound)

Just a note but I applied for a repair via this website and all I got so far is an email telling me to print a UPS label and drop off at some depot that is miles away. The support and explanation on this site for the repair servie is shocking

Can I expect a 'box' to arrive to package and ship back?

Can UPS pick up???

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I had this video problem a couple of months ago. Video just went dead and nothing but squiggly lines showed up across the screen. Sent in for repair, got it back a month later, worked fine for a couple of months then the colors started to flicker from blue to yellow. Sent it in again and Futureshop would not fix. They ended up giving me a new one. I never found out what exactly was wrong but the prognosis is probably not good if this is happening to you.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

It has now progressed to the Composite video as well...no video at all.  Perfect digital audio and the game is starting up, just no video.

I may buy a base unit, rather than blow $99 on the repair, plus shipping.

Yeah me too, cod4 sent my colours running then proceeded to go to a blck screen perfect sound just no picture something needs to be done, I have to pay 65 quid cos its not covered under the extended warranty but it seems like this is happening everywhere, we need to make sure microsoft know we know its such a common problem and all post the problem under one post..  us none 3 red lighters are being ripped off for there new problem.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I've been having the same problem. Was playing CoD4 this morning, had played for about an hour just fine when all of a sudden the color went funky. Looked kind of like a watercolor painting that got wet. Restarted the console and it was black, sound was working perfectly though, have been turning it off and on for a couple hours now with no luck. Unfortunately my warranty gone and since it's not RRoD. I agree that since this seems to be such a widespread problem recently we should not have to pay for it regardless of RRoD or not. I don't know about anyone else but I'm on a fairly tight budget, I don't have the spare cash to pay for repairs.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

think I got the same problem.  My boy was playing UNO this morning then playing PGR4 demo, we had to turn the system off to get out of the demo, turned it back on nothing but black screen with purple lines all over the screen.  sound is great but no picture.  just put in a game to see if that would work, no go same screen all black with small purple lines all over. damn it this sucks, a friend of mine just lost his video card about two weeks ago still hasnt gotten his system back yet and cost him I think $100.

this is just crazyness.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Looks like its my turn to be added to the list.

Was playing Mass Effect Today on my Monitor (using VGA Cables) and suddenly i started to get Blue lines around stuff ingame (wasnt like blue scanlines across the screen). I turned it off and turned it back on, no video only sound.
Tried pulling out the standard cables and hooking it up to my TV and same thing.

I racked up about 15 hours worth of playtime in four days, not sure if playing too much had anything to do with it.

Now it kills me that i cant finish Mass Effect and im not sure if i want to drop more money on a new one (my warranty is up) if this is going to happen again in a few days.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Mine took months to get to this point.  It started losing the color palette in 1080i, so I went down to 720p, and the problem went away for almost 2 months.

Got to the point where it just would not display at all.

A couple days later, it's now working sporadically again.  Mine is one of the "toaster" units, which blows air out the back hotter than my car's exhaust.  (Not really, but you can appreciate the metaphor.  Could almost make toast on it.)

What about your HDD+ your brothers console + your TV? Also how are you connecting the 360 to the tvs? Or how about if you take off your HDD off of your console?

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Last night I was playing the trial version of undertow and my video just went to a pink and yellow mess on screen. Nothing recognizable but I could still hear everything and could tell it was working in the background since if I pressed the guide button I could hear the guide open. I restarted and though nothing of it. Turned it on this morning and it was fine, I started to sync a GHIII controller and the video went to a jumbled blue mess. I still had control and I could hear everything going on, just couldn't see it. I restarted again, this time it booted up but the video was completely dead. I could hear sound and knew it was running but there was no video at all, no error lights.

My coffin is on its way.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
After a few minutes of playing the picture AND sound get messed up or stop. Its been about 24 hours and support still hasn't emailed me back. However, those of you who have had problems and own Halo 3 might want to check this out.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Add me to the list, I was playing Rock Band and the colors went all washed out. I thought it was the game since it has some many weird color effects, but the dashboard looked the same way. When this happens I just turn off the 360 and turn it back on and all is good. Well not this time, and I think it's getting worse each time I try to play a game. I put in a service request this morning this will be my 3rd repair.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I'm having the same problem as well. I don't really understand why since it was working fine yesterday and earlier today. I was in the middle of playing VF5 and the screen just suddenly started to look like an oil painting like thing and I thought I could fix it if I just turned it off and back on. Well it didn't work. All I get is the input screen but I can still hear the sound perfectly. I'm kinda hopeing that I will give it a few hours and hopefully work again. If not then I might have to buy another AV cord or something and hope that will work. If not, then I will be very very sad :( Has anyone tried using a new AV cord to see if it worked?

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
this is *** bullshit.  this issue needs to be covered by Microsoft.  this problem will soon become as widespread as the RROD.  it happened to mine a week ago and i refused to pay the $100 for the repair.  instead, went out and bought a new Elite and will wait until MS owns up and starts coverage for this issue, where I can get it repaired or replaced for free.  Come on, Microsoft.  Let's make a damn console that works.

Thought it was the AV cable at first but I tried it on different cables and it did the same thing! Now it starts up and all I hear is the sound and no video at all just white squiggly lines on my screen... I bought a 3 year warranty from target and talked to them last night hopefully they have good service there..
