delisef.....I have a question for you thats really bugging me

In one of the other threads on this forum, you responded to a member saying

"We dont use press to talk. Its an open mic but you have to be in a squad. "

I take that as you cannot speak to ANYONE unless your in a squad. Im not sure if you're trying to promote teamwork that way or such. I hope thats not what it means, I mean would it be possible to have you and 15 other  guys on your team communicate openly, then when they went into a squad they could only communicate within the squad so no one could here them outside that. But when there lone wolf and say....theres  no one in a squad, I think its vital to still talk to your teammates regarding gameply, stratgy and teamwork that way.

Yes you have to be in a squad to use the open mic feature. When matches are this big, it got way to cluttered with talking and most of the time useless information that didnt help teamwork and bandwidth.

We want to have more options like squad leader to squad leader and proximity chat. We are looking into that for a title update.

Let me just say I love the game frontlines, played the single player demo and multiplayer beta on the PC. I been following since it was first announced. While I have no problems speaking only with a squad I joined, because Im not sure how chaotic it could get with all my team trying  to speak at the same time. I just want to make sure what you said was what you said. Im still going to buy the game, I have it pre-ordered and I wish you all the luck that it hits big sells.

Thanks soo much man, I mean it was bugging me because no one would give me a straight answer. Now that I think about it, squad chat makes perfect sense since it is what I thought, it be cluttered for open chat to anyone who wasnt in a squad. Thank man.

Frank, a few more questions for you::

1.  How are players suppose to communicate with one another when not in a squad?

2.  When there are more than one squad on a team, how are the squads suppose to communicate with each other?

I have a feeling this is going to be really frustrating when the game releases, and by frustrating I mean just trying to get general teamwork flowing within a team, this is gonna make me not want to use split-squads, but then that would restrict me to 4 players only.

I'll be honest, this is dissapointing.

yeah  it would be nice if say alpha squad and say bravo squad could coordinate with charlie or delta squad to get objectives accomplished,  but lets keep in mind guys, that there is a tactical map.  anyway though no matter what the deal is we really wont know  more untill we get our hands on it and play it,  we will see how things unfold, and people will know what to do and where to go the longer the game is out and the more experience we have with it..  and again, a good squad leader will be checking that tactical map, and thats going to show you everyones location, and wether they are engaged in combat or not, so you can see if you need to go help another squad capture or defend objectives.  lets not drive ourselves crazy in anticipation.  we dont want to make all these expectations and presumptions only to find that the game doesnt do it the way we imagined it might. just keep open minds, breath slow and deep.  personally i was already thinking lone wolf strategies last night, cuz lets face, the average live gamer is a moron.  its nothing new for me to operate solo if i feel the players on my team are tards.
vapor maybe you can answer this one ,  is squad leader one of your combat roles, like emp tech or what.
cuz  i know theres ground support, air support, emp tech, and drone tech right.  so who decides who the squad leaders are?  and say i just want to go lone wolf i do have the option of doing that right?

I have to agree and while I will still probably buy the game this kinda voice communication could really turn the general public off this game all together. I mean I want to be in a squad but in games where people are not forming squads I would still like to talk to others on my team to get some back and forth going for strategy.

actually im hoping voice communication ISNT all that important.  i dont even use my mic most of the time.  and i prefer not to.  in my experience the majority of people are like me, and tired of subjecting themselves to tard chat that dominates the game chat, and totally distracts from the game, which is whats important to me.  who cares about the GENERAL public anyway, i want this game to attract hardcore gamers.  people with brains and skills.  I hope that the rest of em just stay away from this game.

But that's the beauty of squads! You never have to deal with all the tard chat! Just you and 3 of your buddies rockin' the warzone. You can either talk about your workday at InaTech, or the intracite tactics you are using to whoop on the opposition.

A title patch means a patch the day the game is released right? If so then ROCK ON!

I see...I didn't read that right the first time.  I thought I read "squad leader to squad leader proximity chat.  Meaning that the 4 squad leaders could talk, but only when they were say 20 or so feet from each other.

If you patch it and add the ability for just the 4 squad leaders to talk at the same time that would be perfect!  Less important would be iff you could talk to other squads teammates if they were 20 or so feet away.  Only problem I would see w/ proximity chat would be knowing if you are close enough or not.  If you have to choose one or the other I'd say add squad leader to squad leader chat...at any distance...but

IMO it would be best if you had to push a button to talk to the other squad leaders...it would not be good to hear them all the time!

yup. At first I was disappointed what Frank said about strictly squad chat, BUT a title update will fix that plus I thought about it heavily and now I have no problem with the squad only chat. I read in game informer and I know this a xbox 360 forum but resistance fall of man 2 since they also have a cap of players, you have to be in squads of 8 to talk. So what frank and kaos did was genius in my opinion, just my opinion.

I have a question...with a max of 4 people in a squad...will teams be limited to 4 squads?  If so I can see that being a HUGE problem.  If everyone gets in and invites just one or two friends to their squad.  The max of 4 could be hit, leaving 8 people w/o the option to make a squad themselves.

actually it will be 5 in a squad, you and 4 others. Frank also said they're looking to maybe patch frontlines when it comes out. So it could fix chat issues with public chts and such.

it's 4 to a squad. think about it, 5 to a squad means there will be a squad with an uneven amount.

Yes if it was 5 per squad and there were 3 squads of 5...that would leave one poor soul w/ no option but to play alone!

You can form up to 32 squads (there is no limit, limited by player count on Xbox). There are 4 players to a squad. You can have 1 player squads, 2 player, etc..

Re: delisef.....I have a question for you thats really bugging me
This needs to be remedied swiftly!

I am looking forward to this game very much, im especially looking forward to being my team's (we have about 8 guys who always play together) primary Transport Chopper Pilot...

Here was a rough plan we were formulating for a MAP with the Transport Chopper...
______________________________________________________________________________
When the game starts we fully load up the Transport Chopper, Pilot and two gunners and a full 5 passengers. The Attack Chopper is also loaded up and protects the Transport Chopper throughout the game...

The Transport Chopper heads toward a CAP point on the frontlines... Once over the point I signal the 5 passengers to drop out and parachute to the ground of the CAP point. The Two choppers circle the area of the capture point providing suppressive cover fire for the troops on the ground...

Once the point is captured the Transport Chopper finds a LZ (Landing Zone) as close to the capture point as possible and picks up the ground troops to EVAC and head to the next CAP Point...
______________________________________________________________________________
Sounds like a cool plan HUH?

But the "Squad Chat System" really hampers the players ability to execute a plan as complicated as this. How am I gonna let my 5 passengers know that its time to jump out and parachute to the CAP point. Or once the CAP point is taken, where the LZ is that im gonna land at to pick them up...

One of the solutions above could really remedy this perfectly, Squad Leader (intersquad communication) PTT CHAT...

If Squad leaders could press a button that would open a SQUAD LEADER PTT CHAT that all other squad leaders could hear I think it would work perfectly... As well as having a Nostalgic Military feel to it...

A team wanting to execute this strategy could set it up like this:

Air Force

Transport Chopper Squad:
Squad Leader- Transport Chopper Pilot
2- Transport Chopper Left Gunner
3- Transport Chopper Right Gunner

Attack Chopper Squad:
Squad Leader- Attack Chopper Pilot
2-
Attack Chopper Gunner

Ground Force (Transport Chopper Passengers)

Fireteam Alpha: Assault Team
Squad Leader-
Appointed Assault Team Leader
2- Assault Team Member
3- Assault Team Member

Fireteam Bravo: Spec-ops Team
Squad Leader -
Appointed Spec-Ops Team Leader
2-
Spec-ops Team Member

(Ground Force designations Spec-Ops and Assault is not representative of Kits or Roles that will be within that squad, they are simply designations of the squads for description purposes)

With a system of SQUAD LEADER PTT CHAT this plan could work perfectly, When I wanted to signal the ground force to DROP i would just press the SQUAD LEADER PTT CHAT button and tell the Ground Force Squad leaders, "GO! GO! GO!" which they would inturn immediately relay that message to their squad members...

Then when the time to EVAC came I could easily let the Squad Leaders know where the LZ would be and they could relay that message to their squad by way of Voice and Hud Display popups...

I think this is the perfect solution to this problem and I pray this will be updated with a title update ASAP!

THANKS FOR READING!

Hey Mind...long time no see, nice to see your still on.........this what I "think" is going to be the way it works

Squad Lead to Squad Lead chat option, also proximity chat for all players, and players that are not in a Squad (or are a they themselves their own Squad) will still be able to hear the other Squad leaders.........at least thats what makes the most sense to me..

From what I've heard from the developers is that only people in squads will be able to communicate. They want to patch the game to add the ability for squad leaders to be able to talk to the other squad leaders (peferably w/ a push to talk feature) and perhaps a proximity chat for all players. But when the game ships only squadmates will be able to communicate.

...Why not just make it so you only hear your team, and only your squad if choose to join one?  This sounds like a pretty backwards option.  Not to mention there's a lot of people who will want to game together, but if only four people at a time can communicate... they aren't going to want to play it.

Well The patch may come out the same day as the game to fix it where you speak with teammates outside a squad. But lets not jump the gun until we actually try playing it in squads to see how it works. we might like it better like that, who knows. And who knows maybe the fix for talking to teammates may make it in the mp demo at the last minute, time will tell.

Re: delisef.....I have a question for you thats really bugging me

I'm not sure whether all the buttons have already been assigned but maybe instead of a press to talk feature, they could make it so that when a squad leader enters to tactical map, he/she gets a side-menu that lists the game tag of the squad leaders. Then one squad leader would be able to select an another squad leader and communicate directly with them or select an option that lets them speak to all squad leaders at the same time. When one squad leader talks to the other, the leader receiving the message should either get a beep in their earphone (headset) or an on screen indicator to make it clear that they're speaking to another leader.

This way a the squad leaders could sit in vehicles, driven by their squad members and communicate with each other within the tactical map while they discuss a plan of action. I think this would also simulate radio communications within real wars as, in the middle of combat, the leader would have to ask his members to defend him/her while he contacts another squad leader to ask for backup or to report the location of the enemy.

Also, proximity chat should work cross-team, within reasonable distance.

nobody playing the pc beta is complaining.   so why are you guys crying and freaking out, wait for the game to come out.  if theres a tac map there really no need to communicate that much dude.  just look at the map.  plus you can always split your four man squad into two and just talk that way.    so quit crying.   keen you sent me a friend request, but i removed you because you are spamming the forums with lame threads like these.   maybe you should just wait for battlefield and pass on this game.  the devs are alot smarter than you guys when it comes to this stuff. have some respect and let them do their jobs the way they think is right.
im not buying this game to listen to people talk!!!

Whatever man, nobody is freaking out or crying about it...  If I'm gaming with a bunch of friends, I want to communicate with a bunch of friends, know what I mean?  If that's freaking out, then so be it.

If you don't like communicating in games you're playing in, that's your business.  By the way - devs still make pretty lame decisions at times.  Maybe you should just skip threads like this instead of acting like you're an authority on this topic.
