Figured I would start a recruitment guide to help people get all the extra characters for the game, since there is no guide currently available for this game. There is a recruitment thread over at gamefaqs, but its not very detailed plus its translated from the japanese one. Since I am banned from there (surprise, surprise) I decided to start one here.

I'm just going to continue to update this as I progress through the game. I personally don't know how early you can recruit each character or if they can all be done on 1 playthrough (though I'm pretty sure they cannot) so if something is wrong just point it out.

Character recruitment becomes an option after the mission: Supply Line in the Desert. This appears after you destroy one of the factions, like the Elf Alliance. This mission can be pretty hard. The important thing is that you do not attempt to kill Jadou. Instead, move your whole party over to the corner where the 3 treasure chests are and make a stand. Just have Begina survive for 10 turns and the enemy will retreat. Now you can start to recruit.

Recruited Characters in the order I unlocked them:

1. Shimazwei - Talk to Cassius after Supply Line in the Desert. He will mention something about expanding your ranks. Then choose the mission Key Figure (don't remember the exact title, should be the first one listed). When the battle starts, simply fight your way over to the other part of the map where Shimazwei waits and have Begina stand on the red square to start up a conversation between them.

2. Inuou - Choose the mission The Strongest? and defeat the enemies before Inuou retreats.

3. Fuya - Talk to Shimazwei (this can be done before you recruit Inuou). Choose the mission Two of a Kind. Make sure Shimazwei is in your party. This is where things get complicated, because I'm not sure of who (if anybody) else is required to be in your party for Fuya to join. Anyway, during the battle you must get Shimazwei to have a conversation with Fuya. The way I got this to happen was to have Shimazwei join Fuya up on the bluff where Fuya is at the start and had Shimazwei attack an enemy. You must get the conversation to take place, I've beaten the level without the conversation happening and Fuya did not join.

Thanks for starting this thread, theres very little info on how to unlock the characters out there yet. Theres a few people on gameFAQs starting a similar guide, but aside from that, info is scarce.

Not that I doubt you've recieved the characters you've noted so far, but do you play with your 360 not signed in or something? I see you haven't unlocked any of the achievements for the characters you're mentioning.

4. Trick Blue - Choose the mission Retrieve Rare Minerals. Collect the treasure chests in the middle of the map, when you find the one with Piercing Grass, a dialog will start and Trick Blue will join, ending the mission.

5. Mayura - Choose the mission Sasquatch Rampage. Kill all but 1 of the sasquatches. Make sure Begina is near the middle of the map. Eventually Mayura will show up and a conversation will happen. She will disappear and some ghosts will spawn. Kill the last sasquatch, another conversation with Mayura will take place, and the mission will end.

Uh yeah, I'm not signed into Live at the moment. I don't have the wireless adapter so the only way I can connect is if I hook my 360 up to my access point directly. But I'm currently playing on a different floor of my house than my access point so I'm not signed in.

I'm only adding to the guide after I successfully get a character to join.

6. Lamia - After recruiting Mayura, converse with her at headquarters. This will unlock a new mission Suspicious Neighbors. Mayura will automatically be in your party. During the mission approach Lamia with Mayura, a conversation will start. After that, Lamia disappears. Defeat the rest of the enemies on the map and Lamia will reappear and want to join your party.

7. Nyan - Begin the mission What Lurks in the Forest? Not sure if there are specific characters you have to bring along with you. Anyway, at the start of the mission Nyan will have a conversation with your party. Just clear out the enemies (there are actually 3 waves) and then take out Nyan. I'm not sure if the battle ends if you kill Nyan first, but she will call reinforcements the first time you hit her. After the battle, she will join your party.

So far you have the same people as me except Lamia.  I just beat her but didn't get close with Mayura and already saved it.  -_-  Now I'm unhappy lol.  Once I get more characters you don't have up I'll post them.

Is it just me or are none of the achievements unlocking when you recruit characters???

Yeah, I noticed that they don't unlock until you do a save.

Yeah, I recruited one other character, but figured I'd wait until I got some more unlocked before posting again. I'm pretty sure I've got to go back and progress the story a bit before unlocking any more characters.

Gee.  I only have 5 ppl in my team.  I didnt know you had to do certain thing to get more characters.  Well now said.....who is the next person I can recruit?  So far I have Begina, Diaz, Eunice, Cassius, and Dragan.

8. Culcha - Begin the mission The Trouble with Goblins. Culcha will join your party once you beat the mission, simply kill 10 goblins to achieve victory.

9. Primrose - Go to the smithy and have him make a steel breastplate for you, its abbreviated Steel Breast. After doing so, a new mission will become available. Simply achieve victory in the mission, Imprisoned Sorceress, to have her join your ranks.

10. Kiratt – Successfully complete the mission Retrieve the Baubles. The treasure chest that you have to open to end the mission is the one that is diagonal to your starting location. Do not open the chests that are located directly ahead of you or to your left, as opening them will spawn more enemies.

11. Anita - Converse with Cassius at headquarters about the topic Customer Service. Unlocks mission Evaluation. During this mission you must perform a 20 hit combo in order to recruit Anita. If you do so, Anita will join when you’ve defeated all the enemies on the map.

Mission : Aid Local Commerce

How to Obtain : Complete the mission, Rimm cannot retreat. After she starts a conversation with Diaz.

I completely missed Fuya as I make my way down the list.  Is there anyway I can still get her?  Or have I gone passed it without realizing it.   I dont remember doing the mission Two of a Kind.

I'm not sure if you can recruit Fuya after a certain point. To unlock Two of a Kind, you have to talk to Shimazwei after recruiting him. When you are at your headquarters (the screen where you can pick missions, equip your characters, forge stuff with the smithy, etc.) there is an option titled Converse. This is where you talk with Shimazwei to unlock Two of a Kind. You should check this section after every battle, because sometimes the other people in your party will have topics to discuss, some of which unlock missions once you read through the topic.

you may have to eliminate the kitty cat kingdom before the cats are available.

Also: (these became available after the second fight with Zok and Zog.)

Mission: "Brownie" Bring Culcha, defeat the enemies. Obtain Malimar.

Mission: "Mixed Blood" Bring Dragan. Put him close to Lilia Pie (top part of screen). They will find they share a common link. Win the battle and then she joins.

Mission: "Terror in the Tundra" (or something like that). Bring Lumia and Mayura (they will autmotically show up as part of the team when you select the mission.) They will have a conversation with Sugata. Defeat her and she joins.

Mission: "Royal Request". The Level 35 DM Magician is Regal Lily in disguise. When you strike her the disguise comes off. I'm not sure if there is a way to trigger the conversation then or not. Anyhow, she'll summon two more waves of Dark Elf reinforcements. Anti-Blind accessories are a big help. I left her alive which was annoying because she'll keep attacking but I don't know if you can kill her and still recruit her. Kill all the dark elves and after ten rounds passes a conversation will occur between Begina and Lily. She asks if you will help her get revenge. Answer "Of course," and she joins. There may be an easier way for this one.  

god...does any one with this game have a youtube acct,shore would like to see some gameplay..other then those 8sec ones on game sites.seems like game sites have no interest in the game,every where i go its just short para reviews never video reviews like other games.seem like they dont care to even bother..its like "meh"we give it a 4 out of ten heres a full video review on doras big adventure if you like.it all just seems crazy to me,its like i have to be in japan too get detailed info on these type of games.in america its all about fps(heres gow3 you can use your mom as a meat shield,or fallout 4 you can fire your dad out the man cannon...lol

I restarted the game thinking I missed fuya and can't get her.  But I got fuya way later too.  I recuited her right before culcha.

Someone on GameFAQs is writing a great walkthrough/FAQ to the game, if you need any clarification on character recruitment or anything like that, I think its worth a read.

I am trying to recruit Anita.  But the best I can do is 10 combo.  What do I need to do to get 20 combos?

I did it with Lamia and Begina. I forget the name of the move, but whatever Begina's 1st special move is, the 4 hit lightening sword thing. I did that 3 times (for 12 hits), 3 light attacks (for 15) then I did teamwork to Lamia and did her first special attack, which hits 3 times, twice (for 21 hits), then followed it up the remaining gauge with light attacks. All told I got a 26 hit combo on that level.

Level 2-3 RG Battle Formation.....thats how I did it.

Sure. Been to lazy to update the thread, just been playing the damn game. Anyway:

Chic - The mission for Chic appears once you have fully upgraded either Shimazwei's or Fuya's weapons. You might also have to reach a certain rank, but I'm not sure. I definitely unlocked Chic when I was either Galestar or the rank below it. The mission is titled Gun Obsession. I think Shimazwei and Fuya are both automatically in your party, which could suck if you haven't been using them, because them mission can be difficult if you have 1 or 2 underleveled characters. Anyway, if Shimazwei or Fuya approach Chic during the mission, a dialog will take place between the 3 of them.

Al - Complete the mission War God's Common Struggle. I'm pretty sure Al and Wave have to survive the battle, which shouldn't be a problem since they are pretty powerful. The mission appears once you have defeated the Nameless Army. The Overlord Army must still be around. I don't remember what rank I was at the time I got the mission, it might have unlocked when I reached the Galestar rank.

Some people have been saying you can't unlock both Al and Break in the same playthrough, but I'm not sure about this. I have yet to unlock Break and the only army I haven't destroyed yet is the Overlord Army. However, I'm only Galestar rank, so I think I might have to rank up 1 or 2 more levels before Break's mission appears.

From what I've read you have to destroy either one or another nation and you get one character or the other, depending on which one you destroy. I'm guessing you can get both in the first playthrough as long as you have multiple saves?

Chic sounds like hes gonna be a pain in the *** to get. I haven't played with Fuya or Shimazwei once. Gonna take alot of grinding to upgrade their weapons all the way.

Theres a few that don't give you any new characters. If you named the missions I could tell you if they're linked to recruiting a character or not.

Forest Watchmen and Kill Muromachi Soldiers.  I thought it was 3 but I recruited someone from A royal Request.

You don't recruit new characters from either of those missions.
