I'll give it a 9 good game with a good story

Just finished it. I'd say an 8.5-9.0. Not sure why more gamers aren't into this one. I'm guessing because it's not being advertised at all, which is sad. It's too bad Codemasters let it die, because Liquid Entertainment created an awesome game.

I would rate it about an 8. The story line was great, but the screen draw on 1080p is a bit jagged. Almost as if they meant it for a 720p or 480p television. If more time was invested in making the game look as good as it played, it could have been a solid 9 or 10 game. Greek mythology theme was very good, but was very linear. Would have liked to explore more myself. The other thing that bit at me was that it is called a rpg, but really doesn't go by that lineage. Made it quite intresting in the end though. Hopefully, there is another game in this series later on down the line.

Note that my rating is a bit premature since I've only just gotten to the Argo.  But here are my first impressions:

Graphics:  7.5 / 10.  Some of the lighting seems weird.  Shadows will pop up when there is really no light source where there should be one.  Some of the places are somewhat plain.  On the flip the side, the people are ultra realistic and incredible looking. 

Cinematics: 9.5/10.  The cinematics are great and it's awesome how they are integrated into the game. 

Sound:  10/10.  The music, voice overs, and sound effects are wonderful.

Gameplay:  5/10.   This would be higher, but I am experiencing framerate issues.  They never happen in combat, but only when I'm simply walking around the world.  This is highly annoying and happens nearly all the time, especially when I move and look around.   The combat is awesome, but very button-masher like.  However, I do admit I need to get more practice switching weapons during combos.   The world (so far) seems somewhat linear, which I do like sometimes because I don't have to think as much.  However, it agitates me when a little flower bush, a bale of barley, or a pebble on the ground bars me from going in that direction. 

Story:  10/10 (so far)

Well I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion; however, I don't think it's anywhere near a "D" rating.  The "deed" system they have is pretty unique and I've never seen a game where these deeds (aka miniquests, achievements) are applied to something bigger like god adoration and constellation completion.

Personally, I love cut scenes and cinematics and this game is full of them. It's like watching a movie which helps me really get immersed in the game.

As far as his comments about the characters and such, I just totally disagree.  Hercules is a little odd, but that's just him. Everyone else in the game just looks incredible.

To me a "D" rating is for a total piece of crap game.  This is not it.  It would have an A from me if it wasn't for the framerate issues and linearity of it all.  So because of that I give it a B+, or 8/10.  The more I play the more I like too.

Nope, I can't say I agree with his opinion. Giancarlo is one of the worst reviewers, though. I remember him from his OPM days. Atleast his grammar has improved since then.

I love how much of the mythology the devs have squeezed into the story so far. I give it an 8.  I'd really like to see more mythology based games from Liquid Entertainment.

I think I'll check the game out.  I trust ya'lls opinions before I'd trust a reviewer's.  I look at games kinda like movies...in that I've seen lots of movies that I really liked that got bad reviews.  I've also seen movies that got all kinds of great reviews that I thought were horrible.  Lost in Translation comes to mind.  Thx for the responses guys.

No problem.  We're glad to help.  My only advice is to give the game a chance, meaning at least make it to the Argo ship and on to one of the areas.   There's some really cool stuff out there.

And don't forget that your health meter can be turned on in the Options Menu.  A lot of reviewers complained about the absence of a health bar so it was clear they didn't even read the manual.

8.5/10

I love every minute of it. The story, music and its links to real world mythology keep me coming back. I reminds me of Mass Effect in its structure and game play, it's a real shame this has been largely over-looked.

I suprised the crap out me. I played it yesterday for 8 hours..and I am loving it. It is longer than I expected, the story line is great, I find myself wanting to know more, almost like I am watching a movie. The graphics are good, sounds is good, and the game a challenge.

Not sure how to kill the first boss guy..can't remember anyone's name on this game other than Jason..LOL

Any suggestions on killing the first 4 leg boss?????

I would give this game 8.5. I really, really had fun playing this game and replaying it for achievements. I can understand why some wouldn't like it but then every game doesn't appeal to every game player.

I would say 8.5

To kill the boss I think you're referring to (I won't name location or name so as to avoid spoilers), dodge all of the herd that he throws at you.  You can see openings in the herd.  Navigate the openings while getting closer to him.  Use your shield to block the birds.  When you finally get to him, go behind him or to the side and wail away with your weapon of choice.  You have to do this 2-3 times then he dies.

Great to see so many of you are enjoying the game! Personally I think the team at Liquid did a great job really nailing the atmosphere of ancient mythological Greece.

I haven't finished it yet (I'm completed two of the first three islands you can choose), but so far I'd rate it somewhere in the 7-8 area.  If I didn't like Greek stuff, I'd dock it a point or two.  There are some great ideas and mechanics going for this game, but there are also a lot of annoying things that can be hard to ignore.  It's one of those two steps forward, one step back things.

I could definitely see where a niche of players will enjoy this game a lot and give it good reviews, but a larger number of players will be turned off by the sometimes uggo graphics and not even get to the Argo and then give it a 2.

I was expecting alot more on the rpg side and the game was pretty short, but in was a fun game with awsome combat. The setting was why i wanted it, i hope that there is a sequel like this one, maybe on the Odessey or any other adventure of the time. I agree with everyone's opinions about why they rated it, but it doesn't not deserve a 9+ because there are some problems, but it is still a fun experence. My Advice check this game out.

6, I like it. I'm able to get past the fact that it has nothing to do with the actual myth of Jason and the Argonauts. I'd be more enthusiastic about it had it predated KoToR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect. Rise of the Argonauts almost seems like something that would've been an early attempt at something like KoToR. However, Rise of the Argonauts is fairly entertaining and will give anyone with patience a fun adventure.

If you're not bothered by facial expressions that do not change, give it a rent.

This game is awesome. I just wish I bought it new not used, so that the developers would get the credit for the sale. Def get this game its better than you think.

I would give it a 7.

I love story driven games with lots of dialogue. The main problem with RotA is that it doesn't combine that element with good fighting. The action/gameplay is fun when you do get to fight, but many parts have you running from one end of the town to the next without any fighting or action for VERY long periods of time. The should have used more action in between the dialogue.

Other than that, some occasional clunky controls, and a few framerate issues the game is a surprise. Better than I expected.

"Viva Pinata" punches "Rise Of The Argonauts" in the tummy, takes it's lunch money and then takes it's mother out for dinner and doesn't bring her back until the next morning.

It's a much better game than "Rise Of The Argonauts".

"Rise Of The Argonauts", however, is a much better game than alot of so called "review sites" have been giving it credit for.

7.5/10 I had given it an 8 but I got killed at the very first boss and discovered the save system sent me back outside to run thru the 4 or 5 groups just to get to the boss again.
I know most games now save at checkpoints but I dont have to like it.

I loved the story, the whole greek god thing totaly sucked me into the game, Im not a hisorian on greek philosophy more a movie historian :)
Like if I had killed a certain hero in the arena I might have stopped playing, this heros fate is well known and I was quite pleased how the game did it. Other names like Medusa and a host of others I recognised, read their story and it was just a good game for me, not a long game but not too short either.

I give this game a strong 7. It has a great story and fun combat. but some minor flaws keep it from being great.

Having completed the game I would say this game is definately an 8 and something that I shall enjoy playing through again.
