The Closed Fist can be hard to play.  Not gameplay wise, but mentally.  It's hard to do something bad to [spoiler] the children ghosts [/spoiler] in the game.

Why is there no forum for Mass Effect yet?

I agree...playing closed fist in this game is really hard to do (mentally).  I can do it in other games (dark side, badguy, etc.), but this game seems very harsh.

Only recently bought this game, but I was very impressed with it.  A little short, but the story was told beautifully, completely satisfied with everything by the end, but would still love to see a sequel.  Anyway, I played the way of the open palm, I'll probably make a new file and go closed fist when the 360 is out.  Let's just hope it's one of the backwards compatable titles.

One thing I'd like to see in Bioware's next moral choice game is the potential for 'good' choices leading to 'bad' consequences. Having finished JE on Open Palm, I found that the 'good' choice was always obvious and always had a happy result--not like life! Sometimes you do what you think is the kind thing, and it turns out badly. I think this would add some suspense to the gameplay, not knowing for sure that choices you make about how you treat characters and situations in the game will have the obvious results.

That wouldn't be a bad idea...maybe for Mass Effect.

This is a great idea!  Imo, this would add a great deal of suspense and replay value...It's also true in the reverse (i.e. bad choices leading to good consequences)  I played both OP/CF from beginning to end and the Closed Fist answer is just as obvious as the Open Palm.

I usually am a fan of evil endings...but i didn't really like the closed fist ending. <Spoiler>It felt hollow. Like you get the title of ruler but it seems meaningless. Plus I would have preferred to turn the followers to my way of thinking rather than kill them. </spoiler>

Iv'e played it through both ways. Ipreferred it the first time with open palm. But I got the English guys gun when I went through it the second with closed fist.

Amen Brother.  I love playing the dark side of games.  Nothing satisfies more than being evil once in awhile.  But I actually felt bad for the first time in my video-game playing history, for some of the choices I made.  Props to Bioware for a great storyline that invoked true emotions.

Open palm for me, as with all moral choices, I am always the good girl. I would have liked to see more of the romantic story between the characters. They still haven't come up with a great RPG game with really intense romance/fighting/action!

I love to go the evil, cruel route, like in Kotor1 (haven't played 2) i was Darkside all the way, but in this game, i felt so sorry for the poor-*** peasants, i just couldn't be mean to em.  I also chose the Radiant Chica as my char model and i didn't think someone as cute as her needed to go around scowlin all the time. >=P

Playing by the way of the closed fist is the way to go. I love to be evil to people in games like this and kotor, it just makes the game more fun. Although I beat it by way of the open palm and it was just as good.

I think after beating it both ways, you respect the Open Palm ending more.  And definetly not the (spoiler) "deal" way.  If thats not too vague. >=)

I completed the game the first time open palm and am working back through the game closed fist and I definitely agree, it is difficult not to have some remorse for some of the things you do.  Just curious, does anyone actually play the game without deciding between one or the other or will some of major decisions you make actually decide it for you?

Haven't tried to play neutral no, that might be an option to try as soon as I go play it on xbox360...

Open fist? I think it's interesting so few people seem to have played Closed Fist. Some who tried had trouble doing so, for feeling bad about abusing peasants and so on. Bioware came a long way between KOTOR and Jade Empire in terms of making the people in the games seem real enough that we find it difficult to be mean to them. I thought I would play through the game again, but Closed Fist the second time. Having finished on Open Palm, however, I found I had no interest in being one of the bad guys in the story.

I find it hard to play closed fist, I'm not that way in life. I will finish in the way of open fist. And then I'll check out closed fist, I want to play it through that way too.

It is hard because it really puts you to the test in terms of your own concience...

But the advantage is you can be mean without going to jail
