Wowzers... I'm getting steamed.  I can play Rainbow Six Vegas against 15 other guys...all running around with guns, but for some reason Catan on Xbox Live can't handle four guys in a room rolling dice without disconnecting everybody.  I don't have a ranking yet....BECAUSE I HAVEN'T FINISHED A GAME YET!!!!!

ANYONE ELSE WHO CAN'T GET MORE THAN 2 MINUTES INTO A RANKED GAME ON LIVE WITH CATAN BEFORE IT DROPS OUT???   AHHHHHHH!!!!!

The only game I have tried to play online so far hung up. We went about two full rounds then it hung up on my turn. We could still talk to each other but the timer stuck at one second and would not do anything. We sat there for about two minutes or so to see if it would unlock and when it did not I exited. Not sure if it let the other guys continue after I left or if it stayed locked up for them.

Thanks for the input...I know it's not just me, and I've noticed the top ranked guys have only managed a few games. 

I've made it no more than 2 full rounds into a game.  It has even frozen the game and disconnected all of us as soon as we enter the room featuring the board.  The big indicators that you're no longer playing against a room of people (because they've been disconnected) is the inability to place your settlement... or the sands of time seem to be stuck. 

I've also noticed the connection strength of all players (except myself, cuz it doesn't show) before the game started.  The last game I tried (before I went nuts because of the 9th straight disconnect or network error) all of us had full strength indicators.

Does them running around with guns inherently make it more impressive that a net game is stable?

Just made a post about this. Glad it's not just me tonight. It was pretty fine and stable last night. This is very weird.

People are dropping and game is getting dc'd when their gaming avatar chances to one of the AI avatars.

Just to let you guy's and gals know, I played this online last night and finished a full game. I have had no problems with it so far. However, I have played in Player Match only, NOT Ranked Match, so perhaps that has something to do with it. I'll try and set up some games with a few mates on my friendlist tonight and i'll let you know how we go. I'll set up both game types (Player & Ranked) and will see if there is any difference in network connection. Will let you know how we go as soon as we're done!

The problem with the players getting dropped is because people are leaving because they don't know how to play or they think it is taking too long...and the network conection issue is popping up everytime the host leaves after a game but u can still see your game stats.  People just have to give it a chance and realize it is not gonna be a fast paced game I guess.

That's not it. I was playing with two people who had records of like 5 wins 6 losses and 4 wins 7 losses.
Those records reflect that they've played it enough and understand how the game works. Still randomly though, everyone just drops from the game.

Roger that.... I WAS the host!  And we still all got hornswaggled (y'know...disconnected) after a short time.  I then tried just a player match.  I hosted one myself....that game crapped out soon after.  Joined one half full...it started, but didn't go far. 

Is the world of Catan running into trouble now that more people have the game and are using it more online than the first day it was available?

I spent hours tonight trying to complete one game.  Finally I deleted my game and re-downloaded it.  This seemed to help and I was actually able to play and complete two full ranked games.  Try that and let me know if it works for you guys.

Can you just easily delete and re-download with no penalty? your machine detects that you had already purchased it and lets u re-download?

no problems with connectivity here

Catan-Online (Ranked) is tremendously bad:

- When the lobby is full and the game begins, the other 3 players are replaced by IA players.
- Other times, when the game begins, I'm removed from the game.
- Other times, there are pauses of 20-30 seconds between turn and turn (¿lag?).

i can't even get into a ranked game.  it just spins the icon for 10 straight minutes, or until i get bored.  i'm not exaggerating here either:  10 full minutes of watching the clock, hoping to get in.

Whats with the player match finder showing 1/4 players on 10 games, but if you try and join, the room is full?  That's happened to me 7 or 8 times in a row.

If anyone played Rise of Nations and partially (but much improved) Rise of Legends then they would know how BHG has always had clunky networking multiplayer issues in their code.

I have no idea why or whether it's coincidence in this case. RoN was notorious for crap network code and RoL improved greatly but...*shrug* i dunno.

I experienced quite a few lag issues and connection errors last night myself.  I tried to get into three seperate games earlier in the evening.  The first and second I was kicked out of immediately once the game started and there was a connection error notice that popped up.  The third time as soon as we got into the game there were 2 AI players and a regular player who eventually dropped.

After that I decided to play a single player game until I headed out to eat.  Later when I got back I tried to get into another game.  Now there was hardly anyone playing (11 pm cst), but after around 10 minutes we got a game started.  In this game there were quite a few long pauses between turns.  The counter was already off and the person said they had already hit end turn, but it was just sitting there.  I couldn't enter the trade mode either, so I'm pretty sure the person was telling the truth about ending his turn.

Anyway, the game has a few kinks to be worked out, but it's fun and enjoyable so far :)

Yeah.  It is horrible.  So far I have completed one game of four-now five, im currently online trying-I have tried.  I think that someone needs to address this problem. 

The night of Catan's release, I played three ranked games... no problem.

Since then, I haven't been able to complete a game. I've tried about three times.

I agree that this should be addressed.

Well being a vet on board games, I luv Settlers, and when i heard of Catan.. i was like "YESSSSSsss". 

Played it vs AI to get use to the Catan version.. But i have spent alot of time yesterday and today trying to join a game.. and everytime i get 'No responce from the host' or 'the game is full', come back to refresh and low and behold the game that said was full still has only 1 player.  So I dont know if its just me (all other games work great online), just having a pain just trying to join a game and yes I have even tried hosting one.. had 3 players went to start then BAM everything fell apart and was sent to the online list..

 

 

I had no problems playing a few games on Wednesday when it first came out.

Tonight (Friday), I can't get a single game going.  All I get are network errors, and when I finally get a game started, my friend gets replaced by a computer A.I. before we even finish placing initial settlements.

This is horrible.

P.S. It's also completely locked my 360 up twice tonight.

Tonight has been just horrible.  My xbox is locking up, the games rarely get past the board setup... wtf is happening with this game?

I am so glad to see that it's not just me! I have tried  to play live off and on for 3 days. Sometimes ranked matches, sometimes player matches. My friend has invited me to game and I have tried inviting my friend. I still have NOT been able to complete a multiplayer game with real players!!!! (Although my friend was able to complete 1 game, but even then 1 of the other players dropped.) Is ANYBODY addressing this problem?!

Anyway, feels good to vent.

And it disconnects people all the time...

Can YOU Escape from the Dead?

Same here. I either get network as soon as the game starts, sometime during the game timer freezes and players get repleaced with AI players ( wihthout much visual indication, at first few times I didin't even realize that I was playing AI untill I saw heavy use of emoticons).

I deleted and redownlaoded the game, but it didn't help.

I've had the same trouble. The first day I and a friend were able to play several games without consequence. The next day and thereafter we cannot connect to one another, get booted and replaced by AI players, cannot connect to and/or finish ranked matches, etc. Let's hope enough people take the time to post here and elsewhere, if the problem is wide-spread, so that BHG will take the intiative and fix the problem promptly.

Mine's been fine 60% of the time...maybe 15 games total. A little lag 20 %. Unplayable 20 or dropped 20%. It's sad because the game is so fun - especially with people who TALK!!!
