Losing Data - Avoiding and Fixing [v3]
Sorry to rewrite it a third time, I would just edit the other two if there wasn't the lame edit time. New method of fixing the data added.

Many people have either heard of data loss, or have had their data erased. Here are some tips to avoid getting it erased:

1. Try to play with people with green bar connection / Wait for the patch
~I was playing with my friend today, and as we beat the last level he lagged out. He got to the main screen to discover his data was gone.

2. Don't sign out while in game
~This happened to another of my friends. You don't need to sign out during the game anyways, so just stay on your profile and you will be safe

3. Exit Correctly
~If you have to go back to dashboard (especially during an online game), don't use the guide to get back. Take the extra 10 seconds to go to the main menu and hit "Return to Arcade". You'll thank yourself later.

Also, to go along with this, if you get an invite for online while in a local game, back out to the main menu before accepting the invite.

4. Avoid Switching 360's
~Switching your hard drive to a different console already messes with all your data. Doing it with Castle Crashers can be even worse.

Now I've heard of two ways that have been confirmed, if you know any more be sure to post them. This is the method that has worked for people I know:

1. Go to the main menu of Castle Crashers while signed into the profile you lost your data on
2. Sign out of your profile (Guide Button > X)
3. Sign back in (Guide Button > X)

Also, if that doesn't work, try this method:

1. Go to Xbox Live Game (Castle Crashers)
2. Sign in using the tag you usually use
3. Create a match using the following settings: 0 Private Slots, 4 Max Players, Hidden Characters "Yes"
4. Toggle ready, then back out to the main menu
5. Go into Local Game, and check if your stuff has been returned

Here's a new method found by "Clipz Ahoy". He says it has worked for him, hopefully it works for others.

 Clipz Ahoy wrote:
I've been reading lots of reports that there are people claiming to have lost thier saved data and have been reset back to Lvl 1 on every character. I had this same thing happend to me unforunately but I think I have found a fix. Both times this had happend to me what I did was simply just turned off 360, took off harddrive and reconnected the harddrive and loaded the game back up. Sure enough this has worked both times the game had my saves reset. So when this happends to you people again do not restart just simple follow these steps and you will have your stats/game save back :). So this has to be a load issue in the game and doesn't load your game file right.

Clipz

Like I said, I know these methods have worked for some people, but there may be other methods. Have fun playing Castle Crashers!

Please bump this upon reading. Mods, please sticky this.

As I was reading this, I lost all my data, randomly. Nothing seems to be working and I wanted to know if anyone would be kind enough to give me a few weapons.

I think this might have been my fault. When I was playing with you yesterday, my internet disconnected and ended the game. That might have been the cause of it. So, I could give you some weapons back eventually lol. But make sure you try everything in this guide at least twice.

Re: Losing Data - Avoiding and Fixing [v3]

So my data went yesterday, right back to Level 1 across the board, not that I had any major levelled characters, a couple in the 20s and my orange knight was 37.  Still very frustrating.

Anyway I made the fatal mistake of taking my HDD round to a friends.  He doesn't have his box constantly connected to Live so when I first booted up, Castle Crashers was only showing as a trial game option, not sure if this might have had an effect at corrupting the data though I didn't load the game.  Once we hooked into Live I started up the game and saw that my save game file was hooped.  We carried on playing as all 4 of started at level 1 anyway and played for a few hours.

Later I popped on this forum and saw the handily stickied guide (thanks) realised my error by moving the drive, slapped forehead, but then tried some of the fixes since I was back at home.  Unfortunately for me none of them worked, but I wonder whether that is because I had played some on my account which had then permanently written over the lost save, had I done the sign-out-sign-in trick first I may have been ok.

Just a thought, if anyone has these problems, try to fix it right away and don't play on!!

Yea, the auto saving kinda screws things up. If you're unaware of your stats being set to level 1, it can save right over your stuff. I always check my character stats before I start to see if I'm level 1 again. I can stand losing weapons and pets, though.

I had to switch my HDD to my new console because my old one red ringed. I did lose all my data, so avoid this if you can.
As of 9/14/08 I'm on console #9.
Gotta love those red rings...

TOTAL BS... I have always exited correctly, never had my 360 anywhere but my house, only played by myself, etc. Today I boot up the game, and I have the weapon and creature I last used, and everything else is GONE... all my creatures and all the weapons I had. I HAD every weapon except for the rubber sword. I tried all fixes and nothing worked. I love the game but this is complete crap. I don't know if it was properly tested, but after all the time finding all of them, etc. I'm pissed and wanted to rant. So add away if any of you have had the same thing happen.

The tips posted are common sense tips to help prevent any loss of game data, Castle Crashers or otherwise. The are not a guarantee that your data will be lost due to other problems with the game, and are not "BS".

How is it not bs? You lose your hard earned stuff because the game doesn't work.

Come to this forum! No Vladimirs there. Great mods and no abuse.
