Yes, any attack made on him has a high probability of being answered with either Shadowus or Curse. When you take down his health more he eventually starts breaking out Cube which makes the battle very intense. Cube knocks every characters health down to 1 or thereabouts.
I was just over level 70 when I fought and beat The Immortal so if you are level 80 you are more than high enough. There's just a few easy tricks to beat him.
1. Equip as much defensive stuff as you have in your inventory and skill slots. Tolten's block skill is very useful as it negates anything for a few turns. Also equip that skill that lets you block in a pinch, and any anti-status effects items.
2. He sneezes on you usually on his first attack which destroys your wall so either equip skills that rebuild your wall while defending or have Mack or someone using Wall building skills, you might not need to do this anyway.
3. You have a curse spell which inflicts any damage done to the caster back upon the attacker, so use that well and you can have this guy helping to kill himself. This comes in very handy later on in the battle when he starts using all his defensive magic. The white magic "Divide" also works well on him before he does this, but be prepared because he can cast it too.
4. Equip anti-floater rings on Kaim and Seth and anyone else you plan on having do physical attacks. The immortal is weak against anti-float. Also get any stat booster spells cast as soon as possible, like Powerus so that Kaim and Seth do as much damage as they can. You can also use some barrier or shield magic but the beasty will probably just dispel it.
5. Equip Tolten's Ultimate Hit on Seth and Kaim. It takes a while for them to prepare it but if you use the back rowers to keep them healed and speeding up their magic it is VERY effective. Instead of 3 or 4 tiny hits with Shadowus retaliations you can land 1 big hit every second round or so, he will still be able to Shadowus you but once is better than 3 times.
6. Equip "double item" and "double magic" skills on everyone so you can throw out lots of spells and healing items every turn. Load up on healing items before the battle, it's a waste of spells during the battle, and faster anyway. The best ones can be bought from the Kelolon Village.
That's about it really. Just keep your tanks up front alive and attacking, with the mages either casting support on them or using items, or reflecting the big guys damage back onto him. He will go down eventually. And if you want the achievement, you have to kill him within 30 turns. Good luck.
