I just cant believe microsoft doesn't do more about this.

I guess I was just raised a bit different then some in this world.  My folks taught me to respect others no matter there background.  So of course this carries over to the way I treat others online. It seems that lately in multiplayer games the level of disrespect people give each other is at a all time high.   Especially the racism, to me it's out of hand.   I guess this is a rant folks.  This is the only forum I read mostly because of the maturity, and goodwill that I see folks give each other so I apologize because I know it's been said before.

Back to the subject of the post.   I just cant believe that MS doesn't have a more aggressive stance against this?????   I'm actually talking about a dedicated team who trolls the multiplayer matchs, reports and bans these folks on the spot when this type of thing is going on.  Maybe it's impossible for any company to do that, but still if the threat was there that you could be banned for conduct at anytime, then I feel it would cut down on a lot of this completely.

Am I crazy?  Should I just suck it up and continue to wade through the sea of trash because that's just the way it is?  Or do some of you folks agree with me?   Cause I sure am frustrated to be hooked on a great multiplayer game, cod4 I know I should expect it in the most popular online title right now, but lately have been having it up to here with the talk.

Like I said I apologize for the same old stuff folks wish were different about online communities, but I had to vent a bit.

Thanks for reading take it easy gamer parents.

I know how you feel. I had the same problem when shadowrun came out. I made plenty of threads promoting respect, teamwork, you know all that unity stuff. It seemed to work as I gathered a group of gamers who shared the same common goal to play for the love of the game and to have fun but still try to win. I still talk to and still am friends with all of them one being xenocidic. Then I got hooked up with the gamer dads/parents. Fact is its never going to stop. Its the world we live in you just have to accept things sometimes. The only thing I can suggest is to play with us more often or learn how to mute people as quick as a wild west gunslinger. Maybe it will get better one day but until then just don't let that kinda stuff keep you from playing a game that you really enjoy. No one can take that from you. Remember play for the love of the game and disreguard everything demeaning that you hear online.

I know how you feel too its the number one reason I never join multiplayer on any games its all the same :( gears of war gets really nasty like that too, the name calling, the racism, etc. you really sumed it all up with its a sea of trash, really it is, I just don't know why people don't have respect for one another the same way they should when playing. I've heard people get fired up and throw mud at each other over everything, I just don't want to hear it lol. Its pushed me away from playing multiplayer Sad [:(]

It is a real pain but the best way to combat this kind of behaviour is to send feedback or file a complaint as MS do listen to this feedback. It really bugs me when playing something like Halo3 and all you hear is swearing or abuse but you can mute the person by using your guide button if you want to continue the game without hearing all the crap they are shouting.

Re: I just cant believe microsoft doesn't do more about this.

I agree with you.  Unfortunately, unless something is done about this, it will continue to get worse.  I really hope that MS does do something about it.  Like you said about the team that trolls around looking for these things, the team doesn't even have to be large to make a little difference.  And the word will get out that there are a team of MS employees that are looking for these people, and hopefully calm down a little.  But as things are going now, unless MS does something about this, it will continue to get worse (I'm sad to say that it can actually get worse).

BTW, there is a way to mute everyone except those on your friends list.  I don't like to do that because when I play with random people (like COD4 for example) I like to talk strategy in strategic games.  But I'm almost at a point where I'll need to mute everyone except my friends.

Also, if you file a complaint & give neg feedback, you likely won't get matched up with that particular person again.  (Even though there are wayyyyy to many of them to do this with, but I guess it's a start).

Hi, does the other person know who has given them neg feedback? I was playing MOHA the other night & found myself being Team killed 4 times by the same guy! He even beat me down with his rifle, while I tried to explain I was on the same side. My sons said I should have reported him, but I did not want to end up with a jerk reporting neg feed back to me just for fun. I might add that sometimes when the going get too rough (language spawn camping etc) I just leave the game, but this reflects on your ranking, which is a shame.

The general attitude of most people on live is ridiculous. It truely is a shame. Ok if im having a bad day i can turn as blue as a sailor but so can the next man but i always say pardon my language and i honestly try not to cuss again but the occasional one slips out.

No they dont know who left them negitive feedback

Re: I just cant believe microsoft doesn't do more about this.

well you can always file a complaint on them during a ga,e break or something or go to the players list and do it that way

depending on the game you play you can ban them from your server so they can come back in Rainbow SIX VEGAS is like that if you see someone doing something you dont like or using language that you dont like you can kick them from the game and and file a complaint to but they can also file you as a unperffered player also so its 50 50/50

As far as I know, they do not know who gave them the bad feedback for the reason that you posted about them posting neg feedback right back at you.  But yeah, you should report people that do these things as it will not match you up with this person in the future (or at least lower your chances of playing the person again).

I was listening to a Major Nelson podcast not too long ago and I thought the guy Major was interviewing said that Xbox does have a team (albeit small) that plays games and "trolls" for bad behavior.  They stressed, however, that we in the community need to do most of the policing since millions of people play on Live.  If you come across bad behavior, file a complaint.  Supposedly Xbox reviews all complaints.

Re: I just cant believe microsoft doesn't do more about this.

Leaving negative feedback or even filing complaints about other gamers will leave you completely anonymous.  If you look at your own profile, you will see % that show if you've been preferred or avoided.  If you have been avoided, the reason is shown, but there is no way of telling who that player was.  I have been avoided, but I am always a very civil and friendly gamer.  I never have my mic hooked up, and yet I have been avoided for trash talk.  I have never quit early when getting beaten, (save for the occasional freeze up) but have been avoided for doing just that.  It's my suspicion that the same immature racist morons who I am unfortunately matched up against are actually avoiding me after they lose!  Maybe even filing complaints!  But with that in mind, it's actually a good thing that a single complaint won't get you kicked off your account.

Avoiding a player is for your own comfort.  And it won't necessarily prevent you from seeing that gamer again.  I have been paired back up with avoided players.  It just happened the other day as a matter of fact.  I avoided a teamkiller, and was paired up on the same team within a half hour.  What it does is tries not to match you up with them. Its not perfect.  To file a complaint is to alert MS about a gamer in violation of the rules.  Use this on the racists, and the major trash talkers.  A complaint won't make them an avoided player.  The average jerk- I avoid.  The racist/major jerk-I avoid, then I complain.

A previous post mentioned a way to mute all but friends.  How does one go about this?  Often, I find myself muting more than half of my team before the round even starts either because I am offended, or their shrill obnoxious voice ringing in my ears is driving me insane.  I'd just as soon not hear anyone somedays.

I find myself hoping it is a CPU program that monitoring complaints, because if its some guy in a cubicle I would rather see him...or her, playing and being a part of the small team out searching.

u have the option to turn off the sound and the mic.  freedom of speach is all i can say...there is no law against saying an opinion about someone...only a threat can really be deemed harmful...and even then nothing can be done...if you dont like it, either dont join the live games, or turn your mic and sound off.

Re: I just cant believe microsoft doesn't do more about this.

No matter how bad the odds are that we can pressure MS into enforcing their own rules, we have to continue to fight the good fight.  I don't have to put up with people treating me like garbage just because they have no sense of social responsibility.  The same is true regardless of whether ot not I am on the internet.  Don't let one person per game ruin your experience.  You are paying for this service, you are within the guidelines set for your service agreement, you have the right to be upset about unruly gamers.

It probably won't ever stop, but neither will discussions like this one.  Don't put up with these people.  Complain.  Fight to get them kicked off.  Freedom of Speech is not one of the rights granted by an  XBLA account.  They do not have the right to make disruptive hurtful comments about other people, just like I don't have the right to act out in a movie theatre, classroom, restaurant, etc.

Most of all, when you play with people who are civil, prefer them.  Fill your experiences with other people like yourself.  I play games where afterwards, I prefer every single player, not because of what they said, but because of what they didn't say.  Remember that most of us online are here to relax and have fun.  It's only just a small percentage that's trying to ruin your experience.

Don't harass, abuse, or spam other players. pretty broad coverage of all the compalints above.  From the Xbox LIve Code of Conduct.

Free speech is nipped in the bud while on live.  You can still go to any street corner and have free speech though.

They can't really do much about this, i mean xbox live is what 7 million people, right?  I'm probably wrong but they can't keep everyone from acting like an idiot.  The only thing you can do is mute the person, file a complaint and block all communications with them.  Just remember, not everyone is like this, make friendships with those people and play with them.  It'll make your gaming experience 100x better Wink [;)]

Well I just ignore the person, not mute them, but muting might be for the best for some people.  I mean it kind of makes me laugh when someone talks smack over xbox live, just reminds me of some issues i had on the forums here.  But in either case, if someone harrasses you or anyone for that matter, file a complaint and make sure the others do too as it will be seen my MS and they will look into it.  Again, as i said make some friendships on xbox live and play those games with them, your experience will be a whole lot better.

I agree with you 100% I don't mind a little bit of it, but excessive use of language, (people curse in the real world, so you can't get them for mild use), will get them muted, blocked, and a negative feedback from me.

But the instant they start dropping slurs, in a hateful manner, like the big "N", I immediately file a complaint. Now if it's one buddy to another, just chatting, I don't usually do that, because that is just their language, but if I can plainly tell they are being rotten, then I do.

Microsoft can only do so much, though, and it's up to the community to help them out. That is why the tools are there.

There is a team in place that patrols the online community looking for the bad seed.

There is a thin line between swearing and verbal assault including racial, and gender insults.  That is why we have our own unofficial Code of Conduct here.  Will you change everyone on Live?  Nope.  You can only set the benchmark and hope that people want to follow it.

Can't check it from your profile on xbox.com, but on your console dashboard in the same page you would edit your profile from there is a section where you can "view rep".  This will give you %'s of players that preferred or did not leave feedback, and % of players that avoided you and of those there are %'s for why you are being avoided.  Hope this helps you find it, I am not infront of my xbox and am reciting this from memory.

No flame here, but I respectfuly disagree.

With Freedom of Speech comes Responsibility of Speech.  This is where people use cliche lines about yelling "fire" in a crowded theater or "I have a gun" in front of the president or "I have a ham sangwich" in front of Britney Spears.  You can say what you want, but when what you say isn't socially responsibile, there can be penalties such as being arrested, shot, or eaten by a hungry psuedo-celebrity.

Personally, swearing like the proverbial trucker and/or sailor is not enough to file a complaint.  Racism, genderism, etc. are.  Negative feedback, or mute both work for me though it gets tiresome when you are in a team game and have to mute your team because they won't stop yelling at the "kill stealing newb."
