Gaming Communites for Parents

One of the common themes that we find among the Gamer Parents community here at xbox.com is that most adult gamers strive to find like minded gamers where they can relax after a long day or week.  Another thing that we have found is that there is no shortage of great sites and communities for what has to be one of the fastest growing (and targeted) demographics in the gaming industry: parents and adults!

With that in mind, I have put together this list of gaming communities and a brief description of each to help you find the community/communities that best help you find the perfect game for what precious time you do get with your 360.

Battlebud- A site ran by Gamer Parents & Family Gaming regular JESSEJAMES74.

Casual Adult Gamers- This site is designed for casual adult gamers, whose busy work, family, and personal life limit his or her gaming time.  It is also designed to be a safe website to browse in our family rooms, and around children.  Click the link for more info:

Crusty Gamers-
It's a site aimed at the older gamer and parent who would like to discuss there favorite games, strategies and life in general.  our motto is "Your never to old to play"

Re: Gaming Communites for Parents

Daddy Place-We are a dad's site that covers every aspect of being a dad. Our members range from stay at home dads, to adopted dads, to dads with triplets. In our search to be better fathers and to help other fathers learn from our experiences we realized that a few of us were also gamers. We formed up so we would always have mature(I use that term loosely) guys to play with that had the same thing in common with us. We are a dad's site first and a gamer site second, we frequently have giveaways and we always have Friday night gaming. So if your a dad and looking for some great guys to play with and to share the joys of your family and your experiences we would be happy to have you. Come by, sign up, and join in!

Dads of Gaming (DoG)- DoG was created for laid back, no pressure, "Timmy" free gaming. No matter if we win or lose, it's a just about having fun. DoG it like hanging out on a Friday night at a bar with 30 or 40 of your best friends, so leave your political correctness at the door. Chat will be "R Rated" at times so it's not for everyone. We talk a lot of gaming, but we discuss other topics as well. It's all fun and joking around with each other, but when another DoG needs some serious advice about anything,  we put on our "game faces" and give the best advice that we can.

Gamerdads Live-

An international community that began as a simple thread on xbox.com by MO MOSS (as featured in Trixie’s gamer spotlight).  9 months after creating the thread, a companion site was created.  Our forums and events are our specialties.  We talk about everything from games, to movies, to sports and we also have our weekly gaming nights (Texas Hold ‘Em every Thursday for example) to tournaments and fantasy sports.  We’re trying to make Live a better experience for everyone one match at a time.

There you have it.  The list of sites in alphabetical order.  We will do our best to keep the list updated.  If you have a submission, please send it to me via PM on xbox.com and let me know that it is there.  If it is an approvable site, I will get in touch with a moderator to have them insert the website into the first 2 posts.  Thanks, and happy gaming to everyone!

Great post EJ. I'd almost say PinnedRead [PR] worthy, but you know how I feel about pinning your threads.Wink [;)] I'll report your thread to see if they'll pin it, but it'll probably depend on if they need approval for the sites mentioned or not.

I see no harm in getting word out to the Parents out there that may be looking for such sites.

Honestly... why bother?

Nice job Ethan, I think it is a great one stop shop for the basics of each site.

It was my pleasure. Ethan had the idea, I just wrote a little something about the DoG site. Looks like there is a site for everyone up there. Hopefully all of the people who have found XBL to be more of a hassle than it's worth, will find a gaming home. It definitely helps to game with like-minded indviduals. I can only speak for DoG, but I'm sure the other sites are the same, we've renewed the fun in XBL for many adults. And really, that's what it's all about....then fun!

That was what I really noticed, we cover all types of adult gamers, so there should be something for everyone.

JD-  I said the same thing.  My other favorite was Resident Stevil.  Classic stuff, Kermit.  Yes [Y]

LoL, Thank you gentlemen!

I just wanted to add that if you visit DoG right now, I am in the process of moving it to a new host, so the site is currently down. Hopefully everything will be back up and fully functional later this evening.

Nope.  I wanted to leave room in case there were other sites to add in later.  Figured by splitting it up into two it would leave the thread a little room to grow.

Re: Gaming Communites for Parents

Ethan good job and bravo! Thanks for going the extra mile to help the gaming parent community know about avenues available to them that they may not have known about. Its nice to know that there are people out there when you start talking about the Commodore 64 actually know what your talking about Big Smile [:D]. The members of Daddyplace appreciate the time you have put into this and also thank you for thinking enough to include us in this list, it is an honor and a privlige. To all the gamerparents out there you have a chance to be part of any or all communities that know how it feels to be where your at. Take joy in being a gamerparent and hopefully one day your children will to.

Thanks again EthanBeer [B]

Re: Gaming Communites for Parents
Ethan.   I would like to give you a BIG thank you!    I started Daddyplace alittle over 2 years ago..  Not really for gaming dads but for a site where dads could hang out and talk..     We did find out that there were alot of gaming dads around and just like me, they got bored from playing on Live because of all the "youngens" mouthing off and not playing the game right..    So we decided to have a gaming night and called it "Daddyplace Game Night".  Original, huh?   LOL

Daddyplace is one of the most visited "dad" sites on the net now, I couldn't be more proud.   But it's people like you that have made Daddyplace what it is today by talking about it and starting topics just like this one.   I sincerely thank you for the attention and the post that you made for all the gaming parent sites..    Thanks!

Keith

DoG is back up and running on a new host! The migration took a lot longer than expected, but now you can "witness the power of this FULLY operational battlestation".....err...I mean website. (Sorry, I had to..lol).

Thanks again Ethan!

You know I would like to pin it, but I don't think we can pin it with a list of specific sites because it would be like saying MS is recommending or sponsoring the sites... you know what I mean?

Sorry guys..

No worries.  I will just have to use my ninja bump skills to keep it near the top.  Hopefully one day we will live in a world where stickied threads and gaming site links can walk hand in hand, until then... hiya!

Re: Gaming Communites for Parents

Great post.  I too, have tired of the blatant racism, obscene behavior and childishness that is rampant on Halo..er, Xbox live.  And yes, I do file complaints, but it's a full time job on some nights.  I want to have fun when I play games on my 360.  I already have a job that I work at 10 hours a day!  I actually just joined daddyplace.com a couple of weeks ago and it's a great place for Dads who also happen to be gamers.   It has a great variety of forums on just about every topic of interest and everybody on the site is great.  I already participated in one Friday night game night and it was a lot of fun.  Microsoft should pay close attention to sites like these.  First of all, I would have never bought COD4 if it was not the game of choice for Friday night on Daddyplace.com.  It is a great game, but I just haven't really been into shooters much since leaving the Army.   Sites like daddyplace.com help to sell more games.  Additionally, I am responsible for turning my two youngest children into avid gamers and future Microsoft customers.   So, you can see that we (all the dads on xbox live collectively) are a strong source of revenue for Microsoft for many reasons and for many seasons to come.

This hit the nail right on the head. We're the generation where video gaming started. Many of us are still into gaming as our pastime and generally we have the higher paying jobs with the ability to purchase more items. I bet I've personally spent more on my xbox and accessories over the last 1.5 years than I have in my entire childhood/teenage years.

Maybe MS can make a webpage that provides access to these resources, there are lots of people interested in these (and similar) sites to find people with similar interests of live situations. It would broaden(sp?) the community aspect of xbox live (IMHO)

Thanks to those new people who are looking for a community who have been sending messages of appreciation.  If you find one of these sites, or know of another, please stop by and comment here.  There is no competition between the sites.  10 million + Live gamers across the world.  There are plenty of gamers for all groups.

I'd love to hear the success stories from you all (people who are joining a community after this thread).  I've heard stories from Joey, Kermit, and our own stories of people who were ready to give up, or just frustrated.  I hope to hear more positive stories from the community.

the only problem is that many of these sites do have slightly less restrictive rules and as kiki has indicated, linking to such sites implies some reccomendation or support on the part of Microsoft.

I am a proud member of DoG, and I can assure you that you will not find a better group of adult gamers on the web.  Except, of course, at one of the other great sites listed here.  Wink [;)]

Thanks to ethan and my admin, Kermit for putting this together!  Great work, fellas!
