Commonly Asked Questions/Answers
|
|
This is not, nor is it meant to be, a comprehensive FAQ or guide,
it's simply meant to (hopefully) stem the flow of commonly answered
questions and correct a few common misconceptions.
If you're looking for a *real* FAQ or guide, refer to
this stickied
thread and
this website.
Now, with that out of the way..
Q: When will the next Elder Scrolls title be released?
A: As of now, there is no official release
date, but a Dev at Bethesda mentioned something "penciling in" a title
for 2010.
Read
about it here.
Q: Does the Game of the Year Edition of Oblivion come with all of the downloadable content?
A: No, it does not. It only comes with the Shivering Isles and the Knights of the Nine. Nothing else.
Q: Can I still use the "dupe" (duplicate) glitch with the latest version of Oblivion?
A: Yes. You'll have
to substitute a bow and arrows with scrolls. Read how
here.
Q: Help! I'm a Vampire! How do I get cured?
A: Read the stickied threads.
Please note though, that, contrary to that thread, you cannot catch Vampirism by sleeping in the vicinity of a vampire.
Q: Will user-made mods work on the console?
A: No. At least, not without voiding your consoles warranty/EULA. Even then, there is no guarantee it will work at all.
Q: Will the next Elder Scrolls title be online?
A: There is a lot of speculation on that
subject. Most likely not, but chances are, if there was an online Elder
Scrolls game, it would be a spin-off game by Zenimax, Bethesda's parent
company.
Q: Halp! Oblivion killed my console?
A: No, It didn't. A game cannot kill a
console. Your console was already on it's way to it's grave, it just so
happens Oblivion was the last game you played/were playing when your
console died.
Q: What's the best way to get money?
A: Without glitching: Alchemy. Raid farms
and plantations (such as the vineyard outside of Skingrad or the or
Lord Drad's Estate, noth of Anvil) for ingredients, then make as many
potions with those acquired ingredients and sell them. Rinse and
repeat.*
Aside from Alchemy, simply raid dungeons. At
higher levels 20+ you'll find more valuable equipment then you'll know
what to do with it.
If you want to glitch, simply duplicate (see above for how to duplicate
items) Varla Stones (found in most Ayleid Ruins) or enchanted items.
Q: My items disappeared and were replaced with [insert random misc. item here]!
A: The container your items were stored in was not "player owned", meaning it will respawn after 3 days in-game.
Avoiding this is simple, do *NOT* store your valuables in containers that are not located in a home you purchased.
There are a few containers in which you can store your stuff without
losing them, but most of those containers will reset under certain
circumstances, such as starting certain quests.
Q: What is the best Blade in the game?
A: There are a few: Umbra, Goldbrand, Shadowrend**, and Dawn/Duskfang**.
Q: What is the best Light Armor/Heavy Armor in the game?
A: Light Armor: Glass Armor or Perfect Amber Armor**
Heavy Armor: Daedric Armor or Perfect Madness Armor**
Q: Should I "Efficient Level"?
A: No. Just play the game and level up as they come.
Make no mistake though, Efficient Leveling will somewhat help
your character overall, but really isn't needed unless you want to have
a "jack-of-all-trades" character or enjoy micromanaging.
Q: What is "Power Leveling"?
A: Picking easy-to-raise skills as majors
(like Alchemy, Alteration, Mysticism, etc.) and then attempting to
master them for the sole purpose of leveling their character up
quickly.
Power Leveling is not a good idea. Ever. The game world scales
according to your level, and by power leveling, you neglect your
combat-oriented skills, causing them to fall behind your overall level.
Meaning you won't be a match for those now-much-stronger enemies.
Q: My game is being plagued by bright yellow "!".
A: Your save game is either corrupted, or your disk is bad.
Make a new character and go to where the exclamation marks were with the afflicted character:
If they are still there, it's most-likely your disk.
If they are not there anymore, it's your save.
Q: Why was the ESRB rating changed from "T" to "M"?
A: Because there was a nude texture included with the game from the start, but not accessable to players without 3rd party modifications.
For clarification, the rating was not changed because of the mod that made it available, but because it was shipped with the game. ESRB cannot rate a game based off user-created content.
Q: I have an idea I'd like to see in the next title!
A: Great. Post it here, don't make a new thread for it.
*It's not
recommended to use alchemy for quick money if it's a major skill. It
will level up that skill very quickly, unbalancing your character if
you choose to take those level ups. See "What is Power Leveling" for
more information.
**Only found in the Shivering Isles expansion.

There, a quick, but somewhat sloppy FAQ.
