SF4

I have started to play SF4 properly.

At first i hated the game, but slowly i am beginning to see what is great about this game.

Basically i believe it all centres around mastering focus cancels, once you start using this stuff the game opens up, it is so technical. If you arent using this stuff i cant see the point in playing cos then it just feels like an inferior SF2.

Initially i hated it cos i couldnt use the focus and i kind of gave up on the game. The game just seemed to place so much emphasis on input execution.

Watching videos of Daigo vs Mago made me realise i have to play this game to a high level, it is poetry in motion.

I thought if i could learn SF2 all those years ago when dragon punch motions and others was alien to me then i can do it again.

It really is about muscle memory and drilling those moves and the satisfaction is unreal when u have it locked down.

I think im settled on Ryu as a main cos his bread and butter is really simple for anyone who plays SF2 and learning his practical focus stuff isnt too much of a challenge. Basically a few chain combos and then learning how to focus cancel DP for the juggle so you can practically implement his ultra.

Anyway, great game and a real challenge, i think im gonna be passing on remix for a while.

When I arrive, I, I bring the fire!!!

Good luck with that. I have tried several times with little enthusiam to keep going. I have Ryu down pretty good even with his ultra and focus cancelling, but in reality its not what street fighter is at the core. I feel they sacrificed too many small details of what SF is for focus attacks/cancelling, which is why the game speed is slower. I am always willing to try it over again but I feel by this time, I will never be convinced.

ST is a great game. Even by today's standards.

Tis splendiferous!

Re: SF4
IMO ST strikes the better balance. More is not better. More game mechanics do not make for a deeper game. Go has fewer pieces and move types than chess, yet a computer has already helped an amature chess player and computer programmer beat a grandmaster. A computer program still as yet cannot even beat a strong amature at go. Not even close.

Focus attacks and dash cancels while wonky does not make for an automatically superior game mechanic. I feel ST and HF are more "pure" forms of SF II, while SFIV is an over-embelleshed cry for cash. It's like comparing the prequels to the original Star Wars movies.

in my own opinion, i think street fighter IV is horrible.

it reminds me of those old ps one titles:

street fighter ex plus alpha & ex2 plus

not just graphic wise either, sf IV charcters just seem very slow and bulky.
i dunno, maybe it's just me.

ST is still the superior game, nevertheless SF4 is a whole lot of fun.

SF4 is more like a toy to me rather than a serious game. I just like playing around with chain combos and dash cancels into ultras and it is very satisfying when you land some of the outrageous moves.

What is wierd about SF4 though is that it brings out no emotion in me. I honestly dont care if i win or lose.

Play Champ Mode EC. 4 consecutive wins for 100 grade points and a potential replay for your archives gets the competitve juices flowing. And once you're in G1 (which getting there is admittedly a slog) you're virtually guaranteed a good fight every time.
Although player matches against people on your friends list are fun, there's not much of a competitve edge to them. So Champ Mode is where you'll generally find me.

We'd love to see you on the SF4 forum.  I agree with what you said, although I liked SF4 from the beginning.

I especially agree on the muscle memory comment.  Its very true, and as someone who has played SF games for 20 years now, the focus cancels took some getting used to...but now that I know them, the game has opened up quite a bit to me.

I also honestly can't understand how some of you Street Fighter fans don't like SF4.  Is it because you guys are unwilling to adjust to the new gameplay?  Your favorite character doesn't play the same way?  What is it?  To me, it has everything the older games have and then some.  What is it that turns you off so much?  No abstractions like "its not as deep" or "ST has better gameplay".  Give me specifics. LOL such anger...anyway, I don't think a slower game makes it worse; I actually prefer it because it reminds me more of the original SF2 and SF3.  Speed does not always equate to better gameplay, and I think the slower speed balances the game better, allowing for the different character's strategies to be implemented in a more even fashion and not require super-humans to execute.  Just an opinion.  No need to get your panties in a bunch over it...

I like SF4 because I think it has everything the older games had, with better graphics, some fresh faces, and the core SF2 gameplay with a few tweaks added in.  It also has better character balance than the older games.  I just view it as an almost complete improvement over the older games, so I find it odd that some people hate on it so much but like SF2.

I'm immature?  LOL, read your own posts to see immature responses, boy.  Are you still butthurt over the *** slap you were given by half the players on the SF4 forum for how much of an idiot you are?

Can the adults now give me a real response?  Its an honest question, and I'm not trying to antagonize anyone...

I have been playing SF4 non-stop for a while just to see if I can get used to it, but honestly it just sucks. How many times are my attacks gonna whiff thru my opponents animation? There are countless of flaws and errors in the game, but nevertheless, I play just to hopefully one day finally "get it" why some people love it.. But dam. I am sorry, I am trying not to flame the game or what I think it's purpose is, but when I see players rant and rave over it, I wonder why..

Thanks for the grown up response.

Other than your moves whiffing (can you give me some examples, as I never see this), what are the other "flaws and errors"?  I've seen you say this before, but never understood exactly what you mean.  Are you talking about glitches, game mechanics that don't make sense, or something else?

Just as you are trying to understand why so many people love SF4, I'm trying to understand why fans of the series don't like it.  I really think there is alot to the game once you get over the facelift...

look you fuc-king retard some of us explain why it sucked but you kept telling us you wanted something more deep but you cant even answer why that game makes it better than the rest but i will tell you why SF4 is worse
1. its for retards thats why you like it
2. to slow (for retards)
3. for cry babies who dont like zoning (perries)
4. for pus-sy's who rage quit (now they have a chance to win with the ultra)
5. the graphics are horrible (but retarded people see it as the best)
6. pus-sy's who cried for kick throws are there
7. people who sucked on other SF games went to SF4
8. and if you like the main menu song your G A Y
9. the cross overs sucks on there
10. if you like ex and all the new junk then your G A Y for needing help to win
11. go back to the sf4 forums if you love the game

look i usually dont judge people till i get too know them but honestly i dont think i like you very much. Not that it maters. But vegetabroly doesnt have to like sf4 its nothing like 2 just as sf3 was nothing like 2. Point is each game people are gonna like and people are gonna love. Im pretty sure you dont care for mvc2 or tvc right? because you feel its soo different from the fighting game you know and love that theres no point to play it.

This post is awesome! A truly well constructed argument. Just a couple of points:

Points 1,2,3,8,9 and 10 all have mistakes in them, they actually make no sense.

Special shout out to point 10! Very well made post. Like saying that if you use Ken's dp to win in HDR then you suck for needing help to win when what you should really be doing is settling your differences over a pot of tea with possibly a crumpet.

Plus the people that say SFIV doesnt look better, well are you playing on a black and white TV? How big is the TV you are playing on??? Bigger than a cig box I hope.

I heard of the mentally challenged forum this was, and you guys did everything possible to reinforce the reputation. Good job. And ummmmm Prodigy, you did get flamed the f**k out of the SFIV forums real quick.Btw, Im buying you a new game, I mean do you really have like 10 SF's as your recently played games. Take a break man, there are plenty of other good games. Oh you must be one of those kids that can't play shooters. n/m enjoy.

It is quite apparent that the two games SF2 and SF4 is worlds apart (unfortunatetly). Hopefully, when SuperSF4 drops it closes the gap between the two, cause I actually like sf4 as a whole but the core mechanics are poor compared to what sf2 is. Ofcourse, sf2 had years and years of refinement while sf4 is a new game with 3d graphics and added technical elements. I personally think its bull that we have to wait soo long for an update nowadays but it is what it is.. When does super drop? early summer of 2010?

Well I was obviously looking to pick a fight. I guess you ruined that!! But yes you are right, they are, and yes hopefully it does. I just dont see how people so committed to SF2 wont give SF4 a chance. Especially when SF4 adds so much more, and although it has an issue or two, what game doesnt. Seriously, what online game is 100% perfect?

Add to the fact that 98% of the people on here hating on the game have absolute no real reason. Its kinda like GOW1 and GOW2. Game was great and so many ccant adjust to the second one. I was able to and am enjoying it. Just wish people would move on and adjust.

The problem is why study a game that is inferior (what people believe) and faulty only to re-learn the game again once Super SF4 drops. When I lose in the game I dont even feel it like a loss, but more like "wtf, that doesn't make sense". I continue to play it cause some elements will stick, while other will be revise, and others will be eliminated. Plus I get to discover more faults in the game that I can speak of and hopefully it gets corrected.
