Briefing Room - Everything You Need To Know
Operation Flashpoint:Dragon Rising

What is it?

Taking gamers as close to war as they'll ever want to get, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is the much anticipated return of the genre-defining military conflict simulator. Set to deliver the total combat experience, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will challenge players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of modern warfare in a new contemporary theatre.

Players will experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a modern conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine, a helicopter pilot, a Special Forces officer or a tank commander, each engaged against the full force of the Chinese PLA on a scale never previously experienced in a military action title. Gameplay simulates an immense conflict between advanced forces and provides unparalleled scope with different military disciplines, vehicles and equipment for players to utilize offline or online with up to three of your friends in a full cooperative campaign. The battle doesn't end there! Players can then take the fight online in 4v4 ranked and unranked matches where they will control their own squad to eliminate the enemy threat.

Key features:

  • Modern military FPS: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising taps into the real world military forces, equipment, weapons, and tactics to bring you face to face with modern combat.
  • Freedom of play: Giving you the freedom to handle military crisis situations using your own initiative, unscripted missions provide real objectives such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit's retreat, or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting-edge military hardware, you will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics.
  • Squad-based combat: As an epic single- and multi-player campaign weaves the narrative, fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations.
  • Redefining battle: The sandbox battlefield (137 square miles) provides a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages, and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment.

Re: Briefing Room - Everything You Need To Know
Skira

Skira Island is the main setting for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The fictional island is located off the northern coast of Japan, and is the subject of a territorial dispute between China and Russia. Dragon Rising begins as the player, a US marine, is tasked with repelling a Chinese invasion of the island after it is revealed to hold rich, untapped oil and gas reserves.

The in-game island is based upon the real world island of Kiska, Alaska. Codemasters has gone as far as to recreate every minute detail of Kiska in the virtual Skira island, meaning that terrain characteristics and even individual buildings found on Kiska are reflected in-game.

The island is a massive 220km², and as you'd expect takes a great deal of time to cross. Reportedly crossing it on foot in-game would take 9 hours. Vehicles make getting around a little easier - you can traverse the island by Jeep in 2 hours or by chopper in 20 minutes.

Skira is reportedly made up of a number of different terrain types, owing to its volcanic nature. Mountain ridges run down the western portion of the island, while low lake lands can be found at the base of the island's volcano. Codemasters has suggested that the island's inhabitants have been evacuated ahead of the arrival of US troops, making Skira sparsely-populated during the game. In fact, the only civilians you will find in game will be a very limited number of dead workers from the island; there are no living civilians still around.

~ I hope you're the one that writes for that webpage... otherwise it sounds to me like you're trying to take credit for something you copy/paste from...

~ EDIT: Looks like IGN, so I doubt it was you... kind of a punk move if you ask me...

Relax my friend. He's not trying to take credit for this at all....he just took the time to have it all in one place so new OFP:DR forum users have what they need in one place.

Smile and everything will be alright.

Re: Briefing Room - Everything You Need To Know
~ The info is good, but he's not the source.  Took him FOREVER to do?  To do what exactly?  Copy/paste an entire page into a couple of posts?  Should have just linked the site in the first one.  I know its all good intentions, but I think its very wrong to even come off like you're trying to take credit for someone else's work.

~ Che gets his info from the Strat-Guide, and made no secret that its exactly where the info was coming from.  Thats how you relay and source information.  Not by copying a webpage and claiming it "took me forever".

Point taken my friend. I now understand where your coming from on that side of the issue. When I ran my gaming site I did always make sure to give credit where credit was due.

I can only assume that he will do so when he returns.

~ Nah, its all good and its great information like I said.  But in the future I would link the site you were gathering the information from in the original post.  This way not only do the readers know the source of the information, but they also have access to the page to shift through it for another bits you may not have included.
