Dragon Age: Origins Discussion

From the makers of Mass Effect™, Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™, and Baldur's Gate™ comes Dragon Age: Origins, an epic tale of violence, lust, and betrayal. The survival of humanity rests in the hands of those chosen by fate. You are a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians who have defended the lands throughout the centuries. Betrayed by a trusted general in a critical battle, you must hunt down the traitor and bring him to justice.

As you fight your way towards the final confrontation with an evil nemesis, you will face monstrous foes and engage in epic quests to unite the disparate peoples of a world at war. A romance with a seductive shapeshifter may hold the key to victory, or she may be a dangerous diversion from the heart of your mission. To be a leader, you must make ruthless decisions and be willing to sacrifice your friends and loved ones for the greater good of mankind.

  • Bone-crushing, visceral combat: Battle against massive and terrifying creatures.
  • Full character customization: Sculpt your hero in your own image or fantasy.
  • Complex moral choices: There are no easy choices.
  • A stunning world to explore: This is BioWare's deepest universe to date with over 80 hours of gameplay and more than double the size and scope of Mass Effect.

Well I think it is. I'm enjoying it more than Oblivion for sure.

Why not rent it and give it a test run first. Big Smile [:D]

As the other thread got locked for being at a super 50 pages I thought I would post this on the new one as well...

Love the game so far.

Anyone noticed any easter egg style scenery or anything? One that made me chuckle was on my way to Denerim.... Spolier/ Had a world map fight icon come up and it went into a cut scene of a big crater with an elderly couple talking about a child and it being a gift from the maker or something like that. The elderly women was called Martha when I inspected the crater it said it was a meteor.....Can anyone guess what film they may have been acting out? /...... then it just continued no fights or nothing. I will be looking for more of these

Don't forget the information on the DLC and how to get it in the game information that Paragon posted, that will help out anyone who's not got the game yet and won't know how it works, saves any threads appearing to clutter the forum.

Looking forwrd to playing the game once it arrives, being as patient as I can be.

Nah, I found I can't rent games.  When I rent a game I don't tend to play it because I never bought it.

The review says its heavy on story which is a big plus for me.  Is it like other Bioware games where you have to stop and talk to each character to progress through the story between missions?  (i.e. KOTOR, Mass Effect)

I'm not sure if it's as good as Oblivion, but then again I have only played 5 hours so far. Does anyone else think the visuals are a bit cartoony for an 18? Also, it's annoying how everyone is spattered in blood in every cut scene. Smile [:)]

Re: Dragon Age: Origins Discussion
Just started playing it and yes I've got it paused whilst I'm on the forums.

So far so good as I'm just wandering around the castle at the start of the game. The controls seemed a bit twitchy until I turned them down to 0 on the slider. Seems ok now.

Graphics are not quite what I expected but it's early days yet. Besides this is a Bioware game and I've loved everything else they have done.
I'm sorry, but a value judgement of that nature goes beyond my programming

I took a look at the extras first in my CE, discovered Wardens Keep available @ 560ms. My balance? 550ms. C'est la vie.....

Yes you can have good long chats with most of the charactars knocking around, just like in Mass Effect.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins Discussion

Just completed the game with my Human Noble Warrior, level 19 (so close to 20 lol).

Clocked in at around 25-7 hours i think or this playthrough. I got a fair chunk of the game done but noway near full completion in regards to side quests and exploration etc.

Just on the credits screen listening to 30 seconds to marsSurprise [:O]

My verdict: One of the greatest games ever made. A game that not only satisfied my combat needs, but that pulled me in, engaged me at every momen, a game full of surprises and emotion and caused me to consider every moment and option given to me.

10/10

These words do not do the game justice, if i were to go into it's awesomeness in detail i'd be here a long long time lol!

I'm intending on aiming to do as many as, or all, of the side quests if I can once my copy's arrived.  That's just the way I am, a right workaholic when I get the chance.

Eye, i'll be more completionist on my second run through as a mage.

Now i know how the game handles and a little bit of what to exepect i'm much better prepared to do alot of the side-quests and sub plots.

Having said that it's not like i just stuck to the main storyline this time, if anything interested me quest wise i would actively look into it!

I don't usually play this type of game, but it looks very good. I'm just a bit worried that I won't have the patience for it...

Woke up and had Ravnoff's face with his dwarf tattoo's pop into my head.So rushed down to fire up the 360 and see what the little guy can get upto on his 2nd day of DA:O.

I think every player will take something different out of the game. If you don't have patience then this game is not for you. There is alot of talking, storytelling, atmosphere build up.If you are looking for a hack and slash try Sacred 2.

Are the sidequests the same irrespective of your class?  Just wondering so I can do the opposite of what I do on first playthrough for achievements

I remember reading somewhere that sidequests become available (or not) based on your in-game choices, class etc.  As I haven't played it yet someone please feel free to correct me...Yes [Y]

Ignoring the main story for now and just doing as many side quests as I can possibly do.

Great game.

I woke up 2 am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so I fired up Dragon Age. Next time I looked at the clock it was 6 am. It truely is addictive!

Fought my way through a 'deserted building' in the city of Denerim last night. If anybody goes there, stock up with tonnes of lerium and health potions beforehand. The place is swarming with enemies and I barely made it out.

I'm loving the game so far. Graphics are pretty crap but the gameplay and story more than make up for it.
I'm probably being a grumpy old git but does anyone else think that Bioware/EA are taking the p*** ever so slightly by releasing DLC on the same day the game is released? It so obviously could have been included in the original game. I get into a conversation with some random dude in the camp who apparently has been trying to find me - mainly to sell me the DLC to continue his quest lol. Talk about product placement - cheeky or what...
