The first wasn't the longest RPG, but I definitely think I got my money's worth, playing it through with three characters. I think it was a dope story, and I'd rather have a short enjoyable RPG, than a long one with a gang of filler. I'm hoping that they add more animations for the realtime combat, and maybe put the breakable objects more in the middle of the fight environments (it was always fun to kick an enemy and see them fly and crash into a table or what not, but it didn't happen too often with most objects being at the edges).
Now that they have a really solid engine to build off of, that's already been configured for the series, I definitely think they'll successfully make vast improvements in the second game, possibly a longer story as well. Just based on KOTR and Jade Empire, Bioware have become my favourite RPG developer, I'll always cop games they are directly involved with.
