OK, following on from my post further up the thread, I'm now looking into buying an HDTV ("gotta" get that anyway) and then getting an HD Capture Card to capture HD footage.

I have a question regarding this: how many HDMI ports does the TV need? I'm guessing 2 (one for the Cap Card, one for the 360). If it does need 2, is there a way to create more ports, like with some sort of adapter (like you have with plugs)?

Most HDTVs that I've seen in these times have two to three ports. What size TV are you thinking about getting? Because the larger ones seem to always have enough ports for about 3 items.

The HDMI ports on tvs are all inputs so you would not connect the source (360) to one port and the capture card to the other. IF you use a card like the Blackmagic intensity, you would connect the 360 to one port of the card, and the tv to the other port. It passes the HDMI signal through.

Ah, I see, cheers for that!Smile [:)]

xS1LENTSC0PEx, I'm looking at a TV that's fairly small due to my room being quite crowded.Sad [:(] It probably won't be any bigger than about 19", though I did see a nice one that's slightly bigger and is 1080p, apparently. If I re-shuffled my room, I MIGHT just about be able to do it. I'd never seen a 1080p TV smaller than about 28" before, so it was new to me. I certainly wouldn't go through all the trouble of getting a bigger TV unless it was worth it.Smile [:)]

The only other concern I have is whether it'll be able to output in 60Hz, I'm guessing so but as I'm in the UK and our region tends to prefer 50Hz (I think), I'm not so sure.

I read on a forum somewhere that ALL HDTVs output in 120Hz, yet according to the page I've linked to, the 100Hz box isn't ticked.

Any input regarding that? No good having an awesome resolution if it can't play the games!Stick out tongue [:P]

Thanks! I shall study them closely!Smile [:)]

I've pretty much decided now that I'll have to go for a smaller 720p TV. It might've been workable getting that other TV but I figured that a lot of people probably can't view videos in full HD atm anyway and for all intents and purposes, 720p is still pretty nice.Smile [:)]

Also, it means (probably) that compatible capture cards will be cheaper as well. Hopefully within the coming months, I shall be able to post my experiences in full here. I'm really excited at the prospect of making some new videos, the old "point and click" method (particularly with a poor TV) just isn't going to be up to standard for what I have in mind.Smile [:)]

Just a quick question:

Is there a time limit for how long you can record for?

Does it depend on the type of capture card/software you have?

Thanks Smile [:)]

Technically, yes,  but it's the amount of space on your hard drive on you PC/Laptop not the actual capture card.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
I bought a Dazzle Platinum 107 yesterday and havn't used it yet, as I don't have my Xbox 360 at the minute!

I'm just checking some things to get the best quality:

- I need 3 splitters?
- 1 RCA Audio cable?
- What type of splitter do I need? as I use a VGA cable.

Any other information would be great, thanks.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
You can't use VGA directly with a Dazzle. A scan converter is required to convert VGA to composite or s-video. Here is one example.

OK, Thanks.
So I just need to buy one of those and use a RCA video cable to connect my dazzle to the converter? or can I use the cable shown with the converter?

Use an RCA or S-video cable, which that particular scan converter includes.

Getting HQ on YouTube is about how you compress and upload, check out the YouTube docs.

I'm trying to open a video in vegas 8 and this pops up. It's an mp4 format too. Trying new settings. "Warning: An error occurred while opening one or more files. The file could not be opened. Make sure the file exists and that you have access to the file/folder."

Better to use DivX or MPEG4.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
The general help page for YouTube that covers everything can be found here. For optimising your uploads, go here. My camcorder converts files to MPEG-2, which is why my videos don't take quite as big a hit in quality as others.

Hope that helps and good luck with your videos!Smile [:)]

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
Is there anyway to play in HD using component cables but record in SD.  My TV doesn't have a video out so I would have to play in SD if I got a dazzle.  I saw this http://www.blitzcast.com/Blitzbox_HD.html and I can plug my xbox in and then run the output to my TV and it plugs into my computer with a usb cable and records in SD but I was wondering if there was any better solutions.

That looks like the least expensive solution to the problem of recording in SD while playing in HD.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
So I've been looking on ebay for havas and have seen that it's only like 20 dollars more for titanium over the platinum. I have a dazzle 170 right now and it has ok quality but can't play in hd or record. I have seen tests of it and the quality is amazing. Do you think it's worth it?

Re: A Beginner's Guide to the Capture Card.
If I was to get a hava platinum is there any more special wires or stuff I would need? I already have a dazzle 170 so I have wires for that. Also, am I really playing in hd if I just turn the switch on the power cord and switch to 1080p or do I need like a monster cable or something? I have an hd tv btw...lol. I also don't have a tv in or out- I can't remember which one exactly.
