  • Introduction
    • Dig Dug is a frantic arcade title developed by Namco Bandai Games. The objective is to control Dig Dug as you dig through various levels of dirt and burst Pookas and Fygars with your harpoon. Originally released in 1982, Dig Dug is back with a bang!
  • Controls
    • Left Thumbstick/Directional Pad (Move)
      • Use the Left Thumbstick or the Directional Pad to move Dig Dug around the stage.
    • A (Harpoon)
      • Press A to use Dig Dug's weapon, the harpoon.
          • The harpoon takes 4 hits to completely burst an enemy. While they are inflated you are able to pass through them, but if you run into an enemy that is not inflated you will lose one life.
    • Start (Pause)
      • Press Start during your game to pause it.
  • Interface
    • Round Number
      • The Round Number is located in the bottom right corner of the screen.
    • Number of Lives
      • The Number of Lives is located in the bottom left corner of the screen.
    • Hi-Score/New Life Points
      • The Hi-Score and the Points needed for an Extra Life are both located at the top of the screen.
  • Game Modes
    • Single Player
      • Single Player is the only game mode in Dig Dug. In this mode you control Dig Dug as you try to kill the various enemies, the Pookas and the Fygars, with your harpoon or the environment. Doing this will help you complete stages and rack up a high score which will be uploaded to the Leaderboards if connected to Xbox Live.
        • Characters:
          • Dig Dug
            • This is the character you control. He is a blue man who wears a white suit with a deadly harpoon. He has amazing digging skills, and can use the environment to his advantage depending on what path he takes.
          • Pooka (Enemy)
            • Pookas wear goggles and can take away one of your lives if they run into you, but that is the only way. You are able to use your harpoon to inflate them and will pop in 4 hits; also, you are able to walk through them unharmed while they are inflated.
          • Fygar (Enemy)
            • Tese green enemies have quite a range by which they can attack you with their fire. Don't get too close or you'll get burnt and away one life goes. The same for the Pooka goes for the Fygar- you are able to walk through them once inflated and will pop in 4 hits.
        • Objects:
          • Rocks
            • You can dig through the earth beneath a rock and they will fall. They give you bonus points when killing enemies, but can also kill Dig Dug too. You are able to hold rocks up if you are under them and continue moving up, thus holding it up.
          • Vegetables
            • After 2 rocks fall in a stage a certain vegetable will spawn at the middle of the stage. To find out what vegetables will fall during what stage, check the Achievements section.
        • Basic Techniques:
          • Points are awarded for each enemy killed and each patch of dirt dug away. Vegetables give you large bonus points as well as killing enemies with rocks. You can score even more points when killing multiple enemies with the same rock. You are able to shoot your harpoon through very thin layers of dirt, but be warned you can also be hit with a flame through that same layer of dirt as well.
          • The biggest key to Dig Dug is to constantly stay in motion and cut away as much dirt as possible to raise your score. You are able to run faster where there is no dirt as opposed to when your are digging away.
  • Leaderboards: The Leaderboards are accessible through the Main Menu and enable you to see how your precious score compares to the rest of the world.

    • A: Yes, once you have purchased the game there is one gamerpicture of a Pooka that is automatically downloaded to your console memory device.
    • Q: On a scale of 1 - 10, what would you rate the achievement difficulty (1 being the easiest, 10 being the most difficult)?
    • A: I would rate this game a 2 because overall it is a simple game to play and learn, but the "Dig" achievement can be difficult if you do not know what you are doing.
      • To acquire this achievement, you must dig away ALL patches of dirt. Yes, even the tunnels the enemies are located in as well as your starting tunnel and the verticle tunnel Dig Dug carves from the beginning scene. Remember, you must cut away all verticle and horizontal patches of dirt; there must be 2 or more enemies left on the screen for them to not run away so you can continue digging. If you have any questions about this let me know and I'll be glad to help.
