I picked up this replacement console at walmart less than a week ago.  And straight out of the box the dvd drive is making some very unhealthy grinding/clicking noises while loading.  Can't say that I'm happy at all.  I've considered just filing a complaint with the BBB to get a NEW 360 straight off the assembly line.  Because every console I have picked up has been sitting on a shelf atleast 5 or 6 months.  Im sick of the bs.

I live in the UK and its lasted since Launch day (Nov 22. 2005) until now and its still going strong... I might have got lucky. My Girlfriend's brother bought his a couple of weeks ago and the red-light dance of doom has already begun for him!!!

3 months.Sending it back today

Well I bought mine February 26th, 2006 and it died last week.  So it lasted me almost a year.  Mind you I did take a long break to play a few RPGs on my PlayStation 2.  It might have died sooner otherwise.

4 months. and still goin.

#1 - 6 months - CD tray wouldn't read 360 disks

#2 - 3 weeks - Couldn't keep time and kept freezing on dashboard

#3 - 2 weeks - Random freezing in multiple games

#4 - 2 weeks - Heck, I've been through so many I don't remember what happend to #4

#5 - 3 weeks - Again, random freezing.

#6 - 0 days - Opened the box and found a big hammer like smash on the ethernet port.

I am currently awaiting #7. I hate Microsoft.

november 22nd 2005 - march 4th / got replacement from texas around late april died late april / sold my next replacement got a brand new one in august 06 with a in store warrnety died november 06 used warrenty sold the new one got a ps3 for a month never gets hot however am thinking of getting another 360 today should i take another wounderful dance with the dancing red lights of death?

Mine has lasted 1 month so far :P

however Ive had very mild freezing. also quite alot disk read erros for a 1 month old machine

About 3-1/2 months now.  Bought it October 15 and started playing it around the end of the month.

from all the people that have had broken consoles i would guess that this system isnt supposed to last more then a year unless your lucky/play for a hour a week :(

4 months and the DVDROM began to fail. Already shipped it out, waiting for return.

Gone are the days of "Quality Over Quantity". This is the age of "Sell it Now. Fix it Later".

Some 'unofficial*' fun facts for the curious:
The most common problem with the XBox and XBox 360 is DVDROM failure.
The second most common problem for both systems is overheating due to poor airflow.
The DVDROM with the highest failure rate are Samsung drives.
The XBox had a rumered 1 in 60 fail rate within a year of purchase.
The XBox 360 has a rumered 1 in 25 fail rate within a year of purchase.

*The usual 'friend who's an MS employee that heard it from a college who knows some one in the repair department' cliche. So don't take them as fact. But it wouldn't surprise me if some of those were even in the ballpark.

Bought mine in on Nov 24th, 06, it died on Dec 22nd, 06.  Got a replacment console on 02-01-07.   Now it's just a guessing game of how long this one will last.  The DVD drive motor went out in the last one.  Sad part is i received two controllers and a game or two from my wife for Christmas... just opened them... 

So far I've had this one for like 2 months, and no problems.

Holly crap!  I would have given up after my second console and ask for my money back or something.  LOL it looks like the powers that be don't want you to have an XBox 360 and make sure it breaks everytime!

This is all a ploy to sell extended warranties.  Meanwhile my original SNES still works.

Do you work for the BBB? No.  I've already filed a case against MS because of a theme that I lost that they also took down.  They refunded after I filed a complaint against them.  So you were saying?  Anyway were getting off topic here.

I'm in the same boat as you.  I'm on #10.  All but 3 were defective right out of the box.  The other 3 crapped out within 2 or 3 weeks.   The one I have now started having issues with the dvd drive the day I bought it.  Instead of taking it back I just filed a complaint against MS.  Maybe it will get my nightmare resolved.  Maybe it wont.  I hate MS at this point and seriously am considering just giving up on the 360.  Heck I dont even bother asking for help here because I just get accused of "beating my 360" or "not knowing how to treat my stuff".  I hate that stereotype.  It's just the luck of the draw whether you have a good working 360 or not.  Unfortunately my luck absoutely S U C K S.

Mine just died today.  And I've only had it for a month. 

Almost a year now. About 23 more days and then it will be a year.

Quit wasting your time. You know that they are sending you **** so why do you keep asking for it? You need to put the ball in your hands and either stop getting refurbs all together or just buy a new core with a 2 year replacement warranty from a retail store or something.
