xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Claybtbs 02-09-2007, 7:41 PM
Alright I just want to see if my luck sucks or if anyone else has had the same problem. I got the xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver so I could use 360 controlers on my pc and this thing wont work. I got one off Amazon and the thing would never establish a connection with the controler. So I call tech support and they say I'm doing everything right but he has no idea what to do cause it just came out and he has'nt even seen one yet. He says it sound like I got a bad reciver and to get another. I hit up Amazon and they ship me another that gets here today. Now I have the same problem again just two controlers and two different recivers two try but nothing works. So either I got two in a row that dont work or something is wrong.Did anyone have any problems with this thing??

Well I've messed with this thing for awhile with no results. The included software wont work and neither will the drivers you can download of Microsofts site. I called "tech support" again and the first guy tried to transfer me to Xbox Live support telling me he's a hardware guy and this isnt an Xbox 360 hardware problem. The second guy was alittle more helpful but wanted to know how I have one cause suposedly this has'nt even been released yet. Strange how there being shipped out everywhere "when they havent been released yet." Anyways the guy said he couldnt help me and to call back in 48 hours. What a waste of time. If anyone else has had this problem plz respond maybe someone knows how to get these to work.

I've got the same problem, but what I found works is if you restart your computer and press the Sync button on the controller, when Vista (I dunno about XP) boots up the controller connects. Once you let it sit idle for a monute or so it turns off and disconnects and u have to restart again.

Here's something interesting I found and might be the answer to the problem (but not the solution):

This is making me angry, I've waited so long for this thing...

Yeah I tried the reboot thing earlier and it did'nt work out for me but I'm thinking about giving it another shot. This whole ordeal is just a bunch of crap if you ask me.

Yikes, I was excited about this thing when it was announced, but it sounds like it's still pretty buggy.

Have you tried unplugging the receiver, pressing the Xbox Guide button on the device you want to connect, then plugging the reciever back into the PC? Reinitializing the USB device may do it.

Re: xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver problems

Claybtbs 02-10-2007, 4:25 PM
You have to press a button on the reciver for it to find something unfrotunaltly just pressing the button on the controler does'nt work. (If you do that the lights just keep spining)

I went ahead and tried this thing on xp64 pro and got the same results as on xp32 pro, nothing.

I have a problem to.  When I press the sync button on the receiver the light blinks then I press and hold the sync button on my wireless controller and the ring of light is spinning.

What happens after is that the light on the receiver stops blinking and the lights stop spinning just blinking

No connection

Can someone help?

Try rebooting while the receiver is plugged in and the wheel/controller is on. You shouldn't "have" to do that, but it worked for me when I had the same problem.

Claybtbs 02-11-2007, 5:16 AM
So let me just check when you do the reboot thing do you have the reciver or the controler looking for a signal and do you do it right when the comp is about to load back up??

Clay, I rebooted while the controller light was just steadily blinking on/off ( I think that's the "I couldn't establish a connection" error), and the wireless receiver was just on. In other words, neither of the peripherals were in that "seek" mode.

I got mine today :)

Installed the Software (check) (XPPro 32bit)

plugged in wireless gaming receiver (check) (front USB - since the back is full lol), and it works fine.

You go thru the same conneciton procedure as for linking the wireless controller with the 360

my only wishlist item, is that you could turn the controller off with a button, like you can on the 360

so what, I gotta unplug the batteries or let it time out and go to sleep?

I have not found a way to turn off the controller either when it is sync'd to the PC. I've just been pulling the battery pack out and popping it back in.

I have the same problem and I found the solution. First disconnect the Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver then I go to the device manager and remove all USB hub so after that you should not have any option with Universal Serial Bus controller then hit the Scan for hardware changes…. Wait for detect your  devices like mouse keyboard bla bla (LOL I was lock to access my computer with remote desktop connection my keyboard and mouse are USB) anyway after that connect the Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver then sync and BUALA! Work perfect….

Sorry for my bad English…. LOL

I was really pissed when mine didn't work, i called My Xbox 4 times and the only one who actually knew what he was talking about was call number 3. But i eventually got  it working, try doing this everyone who is having trouble with it. Turn off your computer, unplug the wrieless gaming receiver, turn on the computer. Let it boot up, log on and then as soon as every thing is working properly THEN plug it in, it will work then. trust me i spent like 3 hours trying to figure it out.

Another workaround

kompleet 02-14-2007, 5:49 AM
It really shouldn't be this hard :)

For anyone else having connection problems, try the workarounds dscribed at http://forums.xbox.com/10257716/ShowPost.aspx, which basically involve disconnecting one or more of your other usb peripherals before booting your pc.

I'm not having any problems with my controllers. But I am having problems with my wireless headset. I'm trying to get it to work with Ventrillo. Every time I turn it on I can hear everyone, but the only way they can hear me is if I scream loudly. My headset works fine, when I'm on live I cna talk normally and everyone hears me perfect.

Try and see if your setting are turned up under control panel/sounds and audio devices. You might just need to turn the volume up on your mic.

Re: Another workaround

MajinJagaimoX 02-14-2007, 6:54 PM
Everything is turned up. I tested the mic and Windows barely picks my voice up.

I'm having a different problem with my headset, I can hear with it but when I try to use it for input in vent or sound recorder everything comes out faint and garbled, as in a series of clicks, beeps and scratches.

p.s. confirmed that it works fine on my 360.

Here is what worked for me.

1. Unplug all the USB peripherals that are currently plugged into the PC.

2. Turn off and reboot.

3. When you return to Windows, connect the xbox controller first. This worked for me

4. Plug in the rest of your stuff.

I got this method to work for me. Also, it will reconnect once you disconnect it. you dont have to restart again

That didn't work for me. It seems my Saitek Gamer's Keyboard is the problem. As soon as I plug the keyboard in my headset goes to crap until I reboot without it plugged in. I grabbed my girlfriend's BenQ keyboard and plugged it in and it works fine with the headset.

My problem is my Logitech Cordless Elite Duo. It's wireless and i'm speculating that the frequencies are interfering with each other.

Meh, mine wont work even with unplugging all 2 of my USB devices (mouse and internet modem) turning back on and trying re-sync. I've also tried the 4 USB 2.0 ports and the 2 USB 1.x ones. No luck. I also tried taking out my PS/2 keyboard and network card cable (got 360 on ICS). No joy again.

Documentation is quiet awful, portrays a easy set-up. Hah. If anyone has any ideas, thanks.

Leave it to Microsoft to release a product without thinking it totally through.  Yes, it's a great product but, didn't they think about the people who's computers and xboxes are in the same room?  Kinda sucks when I have to unplug my 360 so I can play on the PC.  It also sucks when you have to come to the forums after 20 minutes of cursing just to figure out that you have to pull every USB peripheral out of your computer just to get the thing to work (which by the way worked for me).  Luckly, my pc is on 24/7 because if I had to get behind it everytime I wanted to play Toca Race Driver 3, I'd be taking it back and using the good ole series 2 xbox controller that I frankensteined into being USB.  If you have to go wireless, this is the way to go, gotta love 360 controllers.  If you have an old xbox controller laying around, just get you an old usb cable and match the colors, it's just as good..
