Ok I have a question now...  Quite baffling really hehe

I went on Lumines Live for a for a bit last night to play around in 60second (still workin myself towards 100 lol)...  So I check out the leaderboard because i heard MrHexic has the top 3 or so spots, very cool btw, and downloaded the #1 vid.  MrHexic, I'd like to capture your 195 run and put it on youtube, let me know if you'd be cool with that.

Now...  I dont mean to accuse or offend either of you, but this has got me thinking that you two are either the same person, or I'm missing something big in time attack lol.  Both of your vids begin with the same setup and have eerily similar combos.  Maybe you just have similar taste in setups, but are there set lists/orders of blocks you guys might be aware of?

I swear, besides a few block flips and placements i thought i was watching the same video....  even tho one was on psp and the other on 360 lol someone toss me a bone here!  Regardless, the two of you own 60 second TA!

id love to see the 195 video myself to compare so please youtube it! and yes, the time attack blocks do come in a set order. its just a matter of where in that set order it starts you at. im sure mr hexic has played enough as well to confirm this.

Very interesting!  I dont know whether or not i like the thought of there being pre-set list(s) of blocks, though it's good to know and somethin to think about.

I'll definately try to cap it this weekend, because i've put off sending in my box for a new dvd drive for almost too long now hehe...  MrHexic, unless you dont even want it posted you will definately get 100% credit.  I'll peep some of the other tops too to see if they might have similar blocks.

yeah that's true but there is one thing i don't get why does it seem like you are playing a lot faster then me when i compare my vid with your.The numbers are the same like i do the same thing in the beginning like u do on ur 193 movie but still it seems like you are playing a lot faster like 30% faster, is it the camera can you see a difference between the movie and when u play and see it with your eye?

thats just your perception. when i watch my own replays i say things like:

"man, how am i so good?"

"dude im sooo fast"

"oh wow, i didn't even see that one"

so i think its basically that our minds "slow" down time when we're actually playing, but once u see it on video, its actually very very fast.

thanks for the upload! there are definitely some eerily similar plays. in fact, i play the first 2 passes exactly the same with that block setup. but its just impressive to me that you can do that with the xbox controller. also, id say our speed is about the same but my roommate watched it as well and said that he thinks i drop faster, and i didnt mention that earlier comment to him so maybe there is some truth to this. in any case, kudos to being the 2nd person (on the internet at least) to break 190. youll definitely break 200 very soon... i just hope i break 210 before that! ;)

yeah i think i will get 200 + very soon because i'm improving very fast i mean just 5 days ago i had 183 and 2 months ago i had 103 at the most so i'm gonna beat ya =)

I could NOT imagine what a vs game between you two would be like!  Well maybe I could, but it'd be like a three hour match and I dont want to think for that long heheheh....

if it was vs mode (and there was no lag!) i think the game would be very different. cleanliness would be much much more important. another factor would also be who is on the left and right, i think its harder for me to play on the right side. lastly, there would be no "throwing" of pieces since u only have half of the board to work with... oh but im sure it would be exciting =)

anyway, if im trying (which is actually very taxing on me) i average about 175. if im just playing regularly, to loosen up my fingers or just kill time, id say about 160.

ive been trying to up my scores on the longer time attacks and here's where i am so far:

3 min: 544

5 min: 890

10min: 1741

and the last thing i do when i tire of playing one min time attack normally is playing 1 min time attack without rotating. so far, the best i can do is 108. anyway, just giving mr hexic a few more targets to aim for ;)

lumines2 on the psp

i feel like im posting too much but anyway i just hit a 202, should i record it and upload it to youtube or just wait til i hit a significantly higher score? my roommate says his camera's video quality sucks too much but ill leave it up to the good folks here.

Kewlguy & Mr Hexic…. I’m impressed at the speed you are able to drop the blocks! Really!  I managed to pull a 118 today but still my game looks slow and sloppy compared to yours.  One major problem I have is accuracy. The more I try to speed-up the more mistakes I make. My fingers just can’t keep up with my brain. I play with the thumbstick since the dpad is just unusable on my controller.

I never played on PSP but I just noticed while watching your replay Kewlguy, that the last line swipe is actually complete. On 360 the line stops just before the end, if you want to squeeze that one last block you have to put it one column shy of the right hand side. So I guess that score on 360 would be "only" 200. :)

I’m curious… what is your score on average?  I just got a 118 after being stuck on 112. When I got my 112 a while ago my average was maybe around 80. Now I guess it’s around 90 so it’s climbing slowly (I don’t play as much though)

I've got two suggestions for you to consider concerning the dpad...

1:  Buy the ps2 Adapter (about $80)

2:  Sand down your d-pad ($2 for sand paper?)

• Dude doesnt really sound like he knows what he's talking about, but he's definately on the right track.  I've seen a number of sanding vids like this, and his is straight to the point. 
  

When i get my 360 back from the repair shop, i'll be trying the sanding method... I've got two controllers.  If i still dont like it i may pick up the adapter.  I gotsta play my fighting games too!

i would say that my average have improved since my last post i would say it's about 170-180 now, but i do cancel my games like 40% when i see that i don't have a chance to improve my score

i don't kill off as many of my games so i will get the occasional 140-150 game. id say i probably kill about 15% of my games at most. sometimes i just like trying to see how well i can recover from bad misdrops. anyway, how long can you keep up that 170-180 avg? i think i can only play seriously for about 30 min at a time. sometimes its subtle but i notice that i start making bad choices, and once i notice that all of a sudden i realize that im mentally tired. and its not like im old... so i just wonder how you compare in terms of endurance.

also, how often do u play? im on break so my roommate went back to his parents' for the week so i dont have a psp to play on, but during schooltime id say i play about 4-7 hrs a week and my sessions are never longer than 90 mins each.

KF Kimimaro: Thanks... but guess what... I actually did the sanding operation on my wired controller a while ago! I took it appart to do it and it worked fine. It did fix the problem of the pad hitting the rim. However, the pad still isn't as precise as it should. I may have played to much Dead or Alive with it.

Anyway, my contrroller is not my only problem in getting higher scores. As much as I like the game I'm not sure I'm willing to play the hours required to get to that level.

I have 4 360 controllers and 2 of them don't have a d-pad-hitting-the-edge, so I don't have to sand.  But it still does feel sloppy even on my "good" controllers.

I skipped a generation of consoles, so I never got into PS2.  So my question:  What is the best controller for Lumines?  That adapter page looks really interesting!  Cool that you can just hook up your favorite.  Anybody out there use this thing?  Does it work well?  I do have a PS1, so maybe the d-pad on that controller is worth trying with this thing.

I bought a PSP awhile ago just to play Lumines and I haven't practiced too much on it, but at this point, I must be used to the TV screen / sitting on couch / crappy 360 controller, because I'm still better on Lumines Live.  But I can tell the d-pad on the PSP is more reliable.

FINAlly got the 200 bar broken with 201 just like yours but in the end of the movie i paniced at the end so i made a huge mistake if i didn't do that mistake i maybe could have gotten like 205-210 score

And to answer your question kewl i don't really know how much i am actually playing because sometimes i can play 24 hours straight and sometimes i can take breaks for weeeks but i got the game 2006-08-30 with 367 hours played so you do the math but i usually take breakes like you from 60 sec ofcourse and go playing some challenge or heavenly star mode. I do admit i have been playing way to much these last months but it's so funny when did you get your lumines? I remember when i first search for lumines for like 3 months ago on youtube i saw your movie with 186 i was absolutley shocked by then.

i've played lumines pretty much since it first came out, which is a little less than 2 yrs ago. thats amazing that u can play for that long a period straight. i guess i would too if i had some time on my hands. i dont have an exact count on total hours played but i was thinking about it in the shower one day and i think im somewhere around 500-600 hrs. but as u know thats spread out over a much longer time than yours. its just like any other skill/ability. the intensity and duration of your "practice" is the key to improvement. who knows... when i graduate in 3 months ill have a month or so of free time...

anyway, congrats on the 200. we're easily 2 of the best lumines players in the world (if not the best).

so i was doing a little bit of theoretical work trying to figure out the maximum score on 60s time attack. the most blocks ive dropped in a single game is around 105. divided by 15 passes is 7 blocks per pass (of course the 1st and last pass will be different). if the blocks were purely of one color, that makes 17 per pass which comes out to 255. soooo, i just wonder what is the highest possible score we can manage. ~7-8 months ago i thought 200 was impossible. but im thinking a realistic "perfect" game would be about 215. agree? in any case, if i ever hit 210 ill probably stop playing it seriously. unless another tourney comes up
