I. Introduction
Geometry
Wars has to be one of the best games that an arcade junkie, such as
myself, could ever get his or her hands on. From day one, I have played
this game at least five times a week, and, sometimes, I have even
dedicated my entire gaming time to strictly playing this amazing title.
Well, now, after almost four months of playing this title, I've finally
had the realization that, even though it is somewhat of a simple game,
there are many questions that must be answered. Although I cannot up
your score simply through text, I hope that this thread can answer most
of your questions, help you attain every achievement through videos and
strategies, and put you on the road to playing like the Ultimate
Warriors of Geometry.
II. Game Variations
There
are two different games in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for the Xbox
Live Arcade: Geometry Wars: Retro and Geometry Wars: Evolved. While
Geometry Wars: Retro is a blast into the past with a 1980's arcade feel
to it, Geometry Wars: Evolved is much more modern, with spectacular
graphics and more intense scenarios. While both games offer a great
amount of gameplay, Evolved seems to not be as repetitive as its
predecessor. Geometry Wars: Evolved also offers a nice, techno-style
looping soundtrack, while you need some sort of music on your Xbox 360
or computer to play the music-lacking Retro version of the game. Either
way, both games offer hours upon hours of fun to gamers of many
different preferences.

V. Enemies
There are many new enemies in Geometry Wars: Evolved, but we also see many familiar enemies in both games.
Purple Pinwheel Evolved Base Point Value: 25 points Spawns: Random Description: The
pinwheel is the first enemy which will appear when you fire up your
copy of Geometry Wars: Evolved. Not only is it barely attracted to the
player, but it moves slowly and is very easy to destroy. Keep on the
watch, though, because it will cut straight through you if you get in
its path.
Cyan Diamond Evolved Base Point Value: 50 Points Retro Point Value: 45 Points Spawns: Random, Circular, and Corners Description:
The cyan diamonds are the second enemies which you will encounter in
Geometry Wars: Evolved, and they are the first enemies which you will
encounter in Geometry Wars: Retro. Although they are slow, they are
attracted to the player, and, if they form a pack, they might gain
enough momentum to catch up with you. They also spawn randomly in the
middle of the map, in corners, but the most dangerous spawn is when
they spawn in a circular pattern around your ship. Be sure to blast
these guys away before they run into or overwhelm you.
Green Square Evolved Base Point Value: 100 Points Retro Point Value: 175 Points Spawns: Random, Circular, and Corners Description: The
green squares also appear in the beginning of the game, but they are
much quicker and will hunt you down if you are not careful. They will
run from your shots, though, but they will also lunge into you if they
get close enough. While facing Green Squares alone may be a simple
task, mix in some other enemies and you will have quite a challenge to
overcome.
Pink Motherships Evolved Base Point Value: 100 Points Retro Point Value: 65 Points Spawns: Random, Circular, and Corners Description: Not
only do these ships chase you much even quicker than the green squares
and cyan diamonds, but they also release two or three other enemies
when they are destroyed. Later in the game, when they are coming out of
the corners, it is wise to use a bomb after you have attained all of
the points you can before you are overwhelmed by smaller pink ships. Be
sure to shoot at the Motherships for an extra moment to destroy the
smaller ships that spawn.
Small Pink Ships Evolved Base Point Value: 50 Retro Point Value: 125 Spawns: Out of the Mother's Belly Description: These
small ships home in on the player in a circular motion, and, if you are
not quick to kill them, they may join together to create a very unique
shape which is very difficult to destroy if it develops to well. Also,
because they are hard to see, you must always look closely to make sure
that you are not running straight into a circular trap.
Black Holes Evolved Base Point Value: 150+ Points (1500 max) Retro Point Value: 75 Points/Hit, 175 Points/Destroy Spawns: Random Description: These
enemies are somewhat harmless if they are not activated (they can still
kill you if you run into them), but, if you hit one with your weapon,
it will turn into a black hole which slowly pulls in everything on the
board. On Evolved, the more enemies it has inside, the more points it
is worth. On Retro, you actually get 75 points every time that you hit
it and 150 points when you destroy it. Be wary of its powers, though,
because if it spawns in the right place and your shot hits it, it will
pull in enough enemies to explode and create an even more deadly enemy.
The Black Holes are most deadly when they are surrounded by other
enemies and activated.
Black Hole Missiles Evolved Base Point Value: 50 Points Retro Point Value: 100 points Spawns: Out of the Black Hole Description: Not
only are these enemies extremely fast, but they are also very
maneuverable. If they get too close while you are in an intense battle,
it is best to activate a bomb instead of risking a life. They are more
attracted to other, activated Black Holes than to the player, but they
will continue to spawn more missiles by flying into black holes until
the player is overwhelmed by these extremely fast enemies. Destroy them
As Soon As Possible!
Sidewinder Snakes Evolved Base Point Value: 150 Points Spawns: Circular and Corners Description:
These enemies are extremely deadly, extemely long, and extremely slow.
Not only do they take up a massive amount of space, but they are
unpredictible and can only be killed by shooting them in their heads.
Due to a glitch in the game, they will kill you automatically if you
are too close to them when they spawn. Also, if you do not kill them
quick enough, they will gather around each other and protect one
another with their tails. Although it is best to keep moving in
Geometry Wars: Evolved, these enemies may require that you stay still
and shoot them at a distance before the next wave appears.
Red Kamikaze Clones Evolved Base Point Value: 150 Points Spawns: Random and Corners Description: These
enemies are exact clones of your ship, but, thankfully, they are not
capable of shooting you. Instead, they will wait for the right
opportunity and charge right into you, which earns them the name
Kamikaze. They also have shields that protect them from your fire, at a
distance. If you are patient enough, you can shoot a Kamikaze Clone
while it has its side or back to you, or you can simply run into it,
guns blazing, and take it out while its shield is down. These enemies
are extremely deadly, and you probably will find yourself using bombs
against them very frequently.
Jacks Evolved Base Point Value: 10 Points Spawns: Corners Description: These
enemies are very small and not very deadly on their own, but, in
Geometry Wars: Evolved, hundreds of them will spawn all around you,
making it very difficult to survive. The best way to survive a wave of
these enemies is to continue in your circular motion around the board
and shoot paths through them as you fly around. If you start to have
trouble with later spawns, where other enemies spawn with the Jacks,
you will find a bomb is very useful. Remember, if you can survive a
wave of Jacks, you can destroy hundreds of them, bringing you that much
closer to the Multitastic achievement.

VII. Tips & Tricks
Although,
as I stated in the beginning of this FAQ, I cannot up your score from
its current position to Top Ten status through text, there are many
Tips & Tricks that I have learned through my past four months on
these forums that may help you complete this amazing Xbox Live Arcade
Title.
Geometry Wars: Evolved Strategies
Movement:
It is necessary that you keep all of your movements consistent with one
another. After a while of moving in one directions, you may become
confused and/or lost if you suddenly switch directions; therefore, it
is very wise to think of the board as a clockwork or a racetrack: race
around the outer rims of the board, never making a right-hand turn (or
left, depending on your preferences). See what works for you: a
counter-clockwise pattern around the board or a clockwise pattern
around the board. Personally, I always travel in a counter-clockwise
pattern around the board, as do many of the top ranking players.
Don't Be a Hero:
Never race towards a huge swarm of enemies when you know that you may
die as a result. Try to have more bombs than you do lives (unless you
max out), as it is very wise to use a bomb than to use a life.
Stay Alive:
The longer you live for, and the more enemies that you kill, the easier
it is for you to earn higher multipliers and score bigger faster. The
higher your multiplier is, the easier it is for you to gain more lives
and bombs.
Keep Your Distance: Remember, you will die if
you make contact with an enemy (except for the few seconds of
invulnerability at the beginning of your life); therefore, you need to
stay as far away from the enemies as you can. You may want to stay in a
relative position for a few moments when fighting off a swarm of
Sidewinder Snakes. Also, when assaulting a black hole, be sure to stay
far enough away so you can shoot it, but it will not pull you into its
grasps.
Use Your Bombs: As I stated before, it is very
wise to lose a bomb before you lose a life. You will find yourself in
many situations later in the game where you are simply overwhelmed by
Jacks, Kamikazes, and Pink Ships, but keep in mind that a bomb will
take the pressure off of you just long enough to destroy the rest of
the wave.
Stay Off the Wall: Because of a glitch with
Sidewinder Snakes and circular spawns that will be triggered if you are
too close to the wall for too long, it is very wise that you stay a few
inches away from the wall at all times. Try not to go into the middle
too far, but be sure to stay away from the walls and corners. You will
find your perfect route on Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved through the
process of trial and error.
Fight Back! : This is a
strategy for more advanced Geometry Warfighters: When you are trying to
kill a Kamikaze Clone, try to run directly into it. If you focus your
shots at just the right angel, you should be able to get past its
shield and destroy it right before impact. It is more of an empowerment
strategy for your character: If they are chasing you, then why don't
you chase them?
Geometry Wars: Retro Strategies
Stack the Deck:
If you have enough free time, you might find yourself in the top 10
very quickly on this game. It is a very simple strategy: stack either
lives or bombs so that you have an almost limitless supply of bombs or
lives. Because there is no sensible limit to how many bombs or lives
you can have in Geometry Wars: Retro, you might even find yourself
scoring the next high score off of a bomb stack instead of a life
stack; in fact, my highest score was the result of having 30 bombs at
my disposal at any given time.
Take Out the Pink: The
most dangerous enemies in Retro have to be the Pink Motherships. They
are fast, deploy additional enemies, and spawn in numerous places. If
you can keep the pink ones off of your tail, you might find that it is
very easy to allude the rest of the crowd.
Hug the Wall: Please
do not take this strategy to Geometry Wars: Evolved. In Retro, it is
very wise to hug the wall to keep from being attacked from all four
sides. Remember to keep off of the wall for most of the game, but, if
you must, you can hug the wall for extended periods of time before the
circular spawns begin to appear. Remember to go around the board in a
circular motion as well.
Scare the Greens: Although they
are very numerous and fast, the green enemies are easy to scare and
send to the other side of the board. Just fire a few shots behind you
while you are on your trip around the board to keep them off of your
back.
Geometry Wars Tip:
- Watch the videos! - On the
bottom of this post, you will find many videos from the gamers who have
seen or hold the top spots on the leaderboards. Watching their videos
is the best way to learn how to be a Geometry Wars Champion.
Please note that this is a completely
original FAQ. Information was gathered from multiple sites (linked
above), but I spent a massive amount of my free time over the past few
days to write this FAQ. So, please, do not redistribute it in any
way.
