Re: Ninja Gaiden II DLC Issues

This blows, i really wanted to finish the game for the 2nd time, on a harder level, and i'm on the last level, and the update freezes my console on the cutscene.

I have sent a technical support question to microsoft about this update, and they never answered me.

Does anyone know how long will it take them to fix this???

i just bought the game toda(i waited untill now because of exams and i knew of the DLC issue, but i was under the impression that they took the update down off xbox live so that no further problems would occur but when i popped the game in i got the "update" message, is it fixed or are microsoft too retarded to take the update down?

They are too retarded, but it doesn't matter -If you just got the game you are not going to be playing the broken level for quite a while. By then it may be fixed, but don't update if you haven't already!

It only takes a couple of days to get to that part. They should take the update down. If it were not for the MM they most likely would.

They will not take down the update because with out it you cannot play Mission Mode.

Maybe it has something to do with Tomonobu Itagaki leaving Tecmo Co., Ltd this past week.

I thought about the same thing last week. I've just started playing it offline though.

They should not make us update the with the new patch though. They should remove it so we could play the game online. The only reason they are making people update is because with out the update the Mission Mode will not work right and that is making them money so they will not take it down.

I was thinking about it... this situation is very boarderline extortion.  I don't think there is much chance of winning that case but the fact still remains that the Xbox LIVE team has to know that to get any enjoyment out of this game anymore you have to get MM to play online.  I won't buy MM even if it gets fixed by wendsday but the fact remains that my threshhold for putting up with broken patches is 2 weeks,  and then I cut my losses sell the game to gamestop before the value drops too hard and move on to something else.  Bad thing for MS though is that I trust them significantly less now, not that I would ever switch to either of the other systems, but I may not be as likely to throw MS my money for movie rentals/odTV if I have an alternative in the future.  It's a sad thing but usually the only way to handle theese things is cinicaly(for your own defence) and try to minnamise the dissolusion.

I'm not going to get this game until the new update is out.
If I get too desperate, I'll just get it and play it offline Stick out tongue [:P]

I don't see why they could try to take the Patch of Death off...
Would solve a lot of problems.

While you wait you should try out Bioshock. It's the best game ever.

Funny - that's exactly what I did.  Since the update came out and put NG2 out of commision, I decided to go for my last three achievements in Bioshock.  I got them on 8/8.  Had so much fun playing through the game for the second time.  Good call...

Re: Ninja Gaiden II DLC Issues [UPDATED] : FYI
You can still play the game with the update of death. I bought the game a month ago and I have been frequently playing it ever since. As you all know it's the end part that doesn't work, and I am almost there. Without the update however you cannot play Mission mode right? If they pull the update then you can definitely sue MS, because something you bought won't work AT ALL. So I think they left the update up because it is slightly safer to have one part of a game busted, than to have DLC that is completely unplayable. -I just think that's why they chose to leave the update, to cover there asses.

Re: Ninja Gaiden II DLC Issues [UPDATED]

So after reading this tread, I discovered that I am not alone.  There seem to be two issues here.  The first is the lock up, and the second is the assumption that it could be the MM download.

I am expiriencing the cinematic lock ups in the later chapters.  I think we ALL are consistantly locking in the same spots.  Chapter 10 - After reacing temple foot steps, about 10 seconds in.  Chapter 12 - after defeating the two armadillos. About 5 seconds into cutscene, game freezes.  Chapter 14 - after using hearts to enter final chamber and fighting through tube. Immediately freezes. You can skip the scenes and play the game, but you cannot defeat the game because of the Dagra Dai cutscene.

I have not downloaded ANY purchased content like the mission modes or costumes, so therefore cannot be due to the purchased downloads.  Therefore, I have to attribute the problem to either the most recent mandatory NGII download or the most recent mandatory XBOX360 software update.

I have contacted TECMO and I have not received a response.  But they probably have no control .  I also have played the game off line and the problems are still present in any mode and any difficulty.

Yes, the mandatory download for the game (also called 'title update') is what's causing all the problems.

If you want to play the game offline, you will need to clear your cache in order to delete the NG2 title update:

 KittenPuncher9 wrote:
You can fix the freezing problem by clearing your 360's cache.  Go to the dashboard, select memory, hold "Y" and press "X, X, RB, LB, X,X".  It clears the update, leaves your game saves, and lets you continue on.

Why is there still no word on it any way? They had the MM fixed in a day, but they still have nothing on this. And people don't think that MS are money hungry.

Amen, LRP.....The belief that it might never be fixed is starting to creep into my mind.  I find it hard to believe that even moderately competent programmers couldn't have found/fixed the bug by now.

Re: Ninja Gaiden II DLC Issues [UPDATED]

my belief is that it will not be fixed in the forseable future. nearly a month has passed and no update(apart from the *** response last week) i said it before and i'll say it again, if this was Halo3 they would be moving heaven and earth to get it fixed. such a shame cause Ninja Gaiden is a quality franchise and people who got the game out of curiousity or word of mouth  have been left with a sour taste in their mouth. they really had a chance to cement their place as the no.1 franchise in the hack and slash genre(DMC, Onimusha, etc) and they really blew it. once again, such a shame

I'm as unhappy as anyone else about this, but maybe the problem is not as simple as we think. Maybe they're just having to tread very carefully in finding a solution, to avoid causing further problems?

That's possible, and I hope you're right.  The thing is, I worked as a database programmer for 5 years...and even when I was troubleshooting a very large program which someone else wrote, spending a month to fix a problem would have been unthinkable in my mind....I felt bad if it took me more than a day to find the problem....It could take a few days to fix and test...but a month?  I don't know.  Still, I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

I understand where you're coming from BUT this particular update never should have made it through certification in the first place. I do not see how this very flawed update made it past the testers.

Even if it ends up taking three full months to fix, I honestly would be okay with that.  ...as long as we were told something.  I understand that they can't really give us an ETA.  But it would be nice to hear something every so often.  Like...
"yes, we're still working on a solution.  Hang in there.  We'll give everyone a status report by the end of next week on whether we're closer to solving this problem or not".

Wouldn't that be nice to at least hear something like that?  It doesn't really tell us anything, but at least we know they're alive and haven't all been hit by a bus.

If something like this happened with any of the products I've developed, I would communicate with the client - even if I had nothing new to report I would be sure to keep communicating with the client.  It's all about keeping the communication channels open and keeping clients in the loop.  If I didn't do that, clients would send me a clear message by not purchasing my products again.

...maybe we need to send the developers of Ninja Gaiden 2 a similar message.

I know what you mean.  Microsoft did release a statement to IGN nearly 2 weeks ago (8/8), which thankfully IGN published.  Take a looksey.  It did feel great at the time to finally see the press and MS address this problem.  However, it seems like it's time we got an update.

I agree 100%, Fresh Kills.  The update should have never made it through testing, and it should have at least been yanked as soon as it became known the game was crippled.  I am very angry that Tecmo and MS kept the DLC package available to rake in the cash, knowing the accompanying title update was causing problems for nearly every single person playing this game.  It is a real slap in the face to gamers everywhere.  With Itagaki gone, Team Ninja somewhat disbanded, the horrible save problem that was never fixed for DOA4 and now this abomination - I am absolutely done with Tecmo.

See the thing is that they could just take the update down and stop making people update it to be online. If they would have just left MM off the marketplace until they worked on the update until it was ready then we would not be having this problem. But the MM is making them money, how ever little that may be, though so they will not take that down.
