Painting/Graphics Questions--Check Here First

Here is a good tutorial from the Forza.com forums on creating detailed graphics. Its very helpful.
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/214564.aspx
And also here is a good FAQ on painting.

Also, here is a four-part tutorial:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwTZ8NpBGtY&mode=related&search=

Livery Editor Shortcuts & Tips in the Turn 10 Blog.

FAQ on Painting:

Can you import pictures?

No.  As photorealistic as these images have gotten, there is no way to import pictures from a PC whether it be Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Free BSD, Oracle, Unix, or any other obscure operating system you may have.  There are rumors of “hacked systems” which may or may not be true, but give all designers found in our forums the benefit of the doubt.

How do I copy the left/right side?

When you have completed one side of the vehicle, go to the opposite side and press A.  The second button from the bottom is “Insert all from Left/Right”

How do I copy a design from one car to another?

To copy a design from your vehicle to another of the same make and model go to the “Save Design” option in the “Paint Car” menu.  The second option is “Save to Design Catalog.”  To apply your design, go to the “Design Catalog” option in the “Paint Car” menu and you can see any designs saved to the catalog and select the appropriate design.

How do I get a picture on more than one car/on another side of the vehicle?

To apply a picture from one car to another (or one side of a design), click and hold down the left stick of the controller and press A to highlight the desired layers.  Once this is done select the highlighted layers by pressing A, and the third option from the top is “Create New Vinyl Group”  Select this and you can name and save your image.  Now, go to the desired side of the vehicle (or go get your other car and return to the Livery Editor) and press A.  The third option from the top is “Load a Vinyl Group” where you should see any groups you have saved.

How do you make these images from shapes?

For detailed instructions please see ONI 23’s picture tutorial in this forum.
Or Neuborn's step-by-step car from concept art to a finished face in this forum.

How do you paint rims?

In order to paint rims, you must have purchased custom rims.  Once this is done you will see a "Paint Rims" option in the paint menu.

This FAQ was not my work it can be found here:

Nice faq you got there.  It will help a lot I am sure.  But when I do this the image appears backwards.  I know there is a way to flip it but how?

I've tried this. Doesn't seem to work. I tried to save a decal layout from my GNX and put it on my other cars.  When I open the design book on the target car, it always tells me "No design saved for this car" or some such.  Am I missing something?

Re: Painting/Graphics Questions--Check Here First

in able to use designs on other cars you have to highlight the layers you want then go to save as a vinyl group. then when you go to a different car instead of adding a new vinyl select saved vinyl and you'll see the vinyl you saved. when you use the catalgue its only for that kind of car. hope this helps

Re: Painting/Graphics Questions--Check Here First
Once the design is done and saved (special pic for instance) you can put it anywhere on the car right????

Is it saved as layers or are the layers merged together as in photoshop?

Can it be stretched or shrunk to fit any particular spot of the car without detail loss???

Re: Painting/Graphics Questions--Check Here First
I found that the tutorial of the Master Cheif by ONI 23 was more confusing then helpful the reason being that he is in a sence tracing an image and "jigsaw puzzling" the shapes onto it which is impossible to do in the game.
The concept is sound but it's execution is a mess and should be removed and replaced with a real ingame tutorial type.

You are right it doesn't show how to create it in game, but it shows the concept of using shapes to form larger images.

And more questions addresed:

How can I flip an image?
To flip an image select it and edit its size. If you go into the negatives you will notice it will flip. Note: This technique is not always effective, especially with complex designs, but usually gets the job done.

How do I save a vinyl group?
Highlight the layers you want to save, select them and choose Create a New Vinyl Group. To load it once it has been saved select a layer and choose Load Vinyl Group. The groups you save can be loaded onto any car you want, and can be resized, moved, and spun ans needed.

I agree, I've seen some amazing art-work and I hope I can come up with something to. I see how it's done with patience and time and can't wait to get started on something myself. I'm also looking forward to seeing others on the Auction House.

You can't "import" and "paste" a picture.  All the designs you see were made from piecing together the multitude of shapes and colors in the precise order to build the picture.  Much more skilled people than me, but they have inspired me to try and make a simple design.  Problem is that i have no artistic talent at all.

Manipulation of the various shapes/polygons/etc. that come with the game.  You can do pretty much anything with what they give you.  It just takes time and some talent.  But it's easier than most people think.

I have found at times that painting purchased rims especially with Metallic or Special colors won't work if I at first don't move the cursor away from the center hexagon (ie. I usually move it down one position now).

Maybe I missed it in the FAQ, but is there anyway to create chrome or chrome looking wheels?  It's driving me up a wall because I need to put some chrome American Racing wheels on my 69 Z-28.

As stated above, you can only save a design on a car, and copy it onto another car of the same make and model. You cant put a design on one car, to a different model car. However, you can get around this by just making a vinyl group and putting it on another type of car.

Hope this clears up the problem.
