Though theres a few posts here with tips about general gameplay (fighting etc.) I figured i'd slab down here some of the ideas I used when going the distance for survivor.
First off the bat, the attentive among you will be thinking "he hasn't got that achievement yet" - true - but heres why...I have just this minute had my first crack at it...got to the last level (literally just before 2nd final boss fight) and for some reason PoP stopped running and hit the pavement at a high speed - just a little bit to pissed off to start again right away! Hopefully this will be a sufficient break.
Anyway on with my ideas:
- Learn the levels :- If there's one you're not sure where to go on, have a play around with it in normal mode - the game isn't that hard, so one playthrough should give you enough of a feel. Also, learning the quickest ways, where you do and don't have to go, and how to deal with these shortcuts (which usually have a few more traps in them etc). This will free up more time for you to be able to take care later on in the game and relax a little (although by level 10 you'll be getting a tad tense)
- Take a break :- If the last sentence starts to hold true, have a breather - there's no crime in pausing for 5 mins...some people might find the refreshing break helpful - other's mite not, you're call
- Collect the elixers :- If you know where they all are, go for them - the extra allowance for "slip ups" if you fall or don't block in time will put your mind at ease alittle when you come up against the big guys! On the other hand if it's going to waste time or you're just bad at getting thru the puzzles to get to them..maybe just collect the easier among the few...don't push yourself, which leads me to the next point.
- Don't take risks! :- Sure, you may think you're the mutts nuts at this game, but given the "old skool" controlling system, it's easy to misjudge a jump, or something crazy to go wrong. Learn how the prince moves so that you can judge jumps safely, run through slicers at the right time - walk over spikes! The less risks you take the better, and there's no harm in doing this because if you know the levels well etc. you've got enough time to allow this caution (I got to the last part with 25+ mins to go - not a world record but good enough for what you're trying to do).
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head atm, and i'll add more if anything springs to mind - post any of your own suggestions...there's bound to be easy ways around/through things that I don't know.
PS - some of these "speed runs" you can find on youtube and the like can give some helpful tips for certain parts.
