Rainbow 6 Vegas Complete Weapons Guide

Hey all, I am writing this because of all of the new players playing this game (the privates, or other people who are new to the online portion of this game), so enjoy as I describe, give tips, comment on, on all the weapons in Rainbow 6 Vegas. Hopefully this helps you out too. Enjoy the read. This took me a heck of a long time, so I sure hope it helps people.

The purpose of this guide:
To help new players or other players pick the weapon that is right for him/her. This also shows a few tactics in this game, and how to use each weapon and gadget effectively.

© Attacksloth32. Please do not plagiarise this work or anything in this work. If you wish to use some of the information I have in my guide in a guide of your own, ask me and I’ll be happy to let you use it.

Optional Scope or Weapon Add-On Choices:

Reflex Scope: I like this scope a lot. Personally, I find that it works best with an SMG (Submachine Gun). It is usually good from short to medium ranges, depending on what weapon you are using. It is versatile, and can add added accuracy on to any gun that can support it.

Laser Sight: I like this option (Although it isn’t really a scope) for smaller maps, or maps that have a lot of rooms. Especially when using a shotgun, or a submachine gun, because it can allow you to let off an accurate stream of fire. Although it probably isn’t as accurate as a scope, the laser sight is quicker than zooming into a scope.

Rifle Scope: This is a great choice for larger maps, such as Calypso Casino, especially if you are using a shotgun, or a submachine gun. The rifle scope can add some serious range to a lot of weapons.

Acog Scope: Another one of my favourite scopes. This scope is mainly used with assault rifles, and it is an extremely good choice. This will give your assault rifle greater accuracy. Also, when scoping in, I find that the gun doesn’t recoil as much with an acog scope (of course that matters what gun you’re using, but I’m saying “in general”. Really, the best place to use this is in relatively large maps, maps with a lot of hiding spots, or maps with different levels (Such as LVU Campus).

6X Scope: Similar to the acog scope, but this scope will magnify 6X more, providing precision accuracy in large maps. This is not the recommended scope to use when playing in a small map.

12X Scope: Similar to the 6X scope, but this time it magnifies things 12 times. Again, only use this for larger maps, or open maps like Streets or Calypso Casino.

6X 12X Scope: Yet another variation of the zooming-in scope. It is recommended for longer ranges. This time, when you click the scope button again, you will zoom from 6X to a 12X zoom. Press it again to scope out.

Recoil Control Stock: A stock used for most machine guns. This will help control the massive recoil of the weapon, and give you better accuracy. Since the light machine guns are relatively inaccurate, this add-on is a good choice if you have trouble with the light machine guns.

High Capacity Magazine: This is an add-on for some pistols like the Desert Eagle. It will add some ammunition to your gun, allowing you to fire more without reloading. It is a great choice for beginners. The main reason is that it can let you shoot more without getting into the tough situation of having to reload. It is also very effective when playing terrorist hunt with a shield, because reloading can potentially make you a target, not having to reload as often lowers that risk significantly.

Submachine Guns:

General Tips and advice while using them:

- These guns are best used at close ranges, so avoid using them in large, open maps as you will probably get mowed down by a longer ranged assault rifle or sniper rifle.

- Use the right scope for the right map or your own game style: Hint, you are given multiple scope choices when picking your gun (press X to pick one), and a lot of these scopes are better than others in certain areas, and worse in other places. Pick the one you like to use the most, but also think of the map, you won’t want a short range scope for open maps (such as the reflex scope), nor do you want longer ranged scopes for closer knit maps.

The Submachine Guns In Rainbow 6 Vegas:

MP5N

Damage: IIIII
Range: II
Accuracy: IIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: The MP5N is a very good gun for beginners, and experienced gamers alike. It has limited recoil, and is accurate at close to medium range. It also carries a silencer that can help you conceal your movement in terrorist hunt, story mode, and versus. What I find is that it is one of the slowest firing guns in the game. This is good, because you can let off a lot of bullets in a short period of time, but this is also a drawback. Emptying a magazine quickly means you must reload more often, but in my opinion, this is its only drawback.

UMP45

Damage: IIIII
Range: III
Accuracy: IIIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 25
Extra Magazines: 10

My advice and review: I found the UMP45 to be almost identical in performance to the MP5N. It has great accuracy at short to medium ranges, and it has a fairly slow rate of fire. The two things that I do not like is: It has less bullets in its magazine when compared to the MP5N meaning you will reload even more, and there is a slight bit more recoil. Still, even with those drawbacks, this is still a great gun. I recommend finding a good solid spot to sit and shoot though, because if you run out of ammo in the open, you are going to be in grave danger.

P90

Damage: IIII
Range: II
Accuracy: IIIIIII
Magazine Size: 50
Extra Magazines: 5

My advice and review: Referred to as one of the many “newbie cannons” in Rainbow 6 Vegas. The reason that seems the most likely one is the insane lack of recoil this gun has. This gun also carries a massive amount of bullets, giving you room for error. Although you can shoot a lot with this weapon without reloading too often, you should still try to aim for the head. The single bullet by itself is not too powerful as far as this weapon is concerned. Again, like other submachine guns, find a good spot to sit, or a good area to patrol and keep safe.

MP9

Damage: IIIII
Range: II
Accuracy: IIIIIIIII
Magazine size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: This is, in my opinion the wackiest SMG in the game. It fires at an extreme speed, and you will probably need to find a very good position to shoot, because you will have to reload this bad boy a lot. It is recommended that you use it in smaller maps, since the recoil is pretty bad, and it also favours 1v1 situations. The reason is, this gun is fast, but it is very hard to shoot precisely when faced with more than one enemy.

MP7A1

Damage: IIII
Range: III
Accuracy: IIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 40
Extra Magazines: 6
Required Rank for Multiplayer: Specialist

My advice and review: One of the quickest submachine guns in the game. I really like the rate of fire of this weapon. It is also very accurate at close to medium ranges, and you are given a lot of ammunition to play around with. The MP7A1 is a great choice for beginners.

MAC 11

Damage: IIII
Range: II
Accuracy: IIIIII
Magazine Size: 32
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: Another great submachine gun. It has little recoil when firing and you can also empty a full magazine on your opponent before they have a chance to blink. The only thing that is bad about this gun is the amount of ammunition they give to you at the beginning. You will run out fast, but as long as you keep picking up ammo you should be good to go.

Light Machine Guns:

General tips and advice while using them:

- These guns carry a lot of bullets, because they are best used to suppress enemies

- Shoot in short bursts rather than emptying a whole magazine on an area. You will find that this will make your gun a lot more accurate

- Plan your reloads: You are given a lot of bullets for a reason, only reload if you have to. For most machine guns, I’d say it’s a good time to reload when you get down to about 10 bullets.

- If you don’t like the feel of the machine guns, consider adding a recoil control stock, as it will improve your accuracy.

The Light Machine Guns in Rainbow 6 Vegas:

MK46

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 100
Extra Magazines: 4

My advice and review: This gun is a very powerful choice. However, it lacks accuracy, and its reload time is extremely long. Although with this gun, the reloading shouldn’t be too much of a drawback because you are given so many bullets per magazine. Another thing that I noticed was the huge amount of recoil that this gun had, but you can limit this with a recoil control stick. This gun is best used short to medium ranges, or semi-long ranges if you have a scope on it. Also, you should try to support your team rather than going in as a lone soldier, that’s what these guns were made for.

21E

Damage: IIIIII
Range: III
Accuracy: IIIIII
Magazine Size: 100
Extra Magazines: 4

My advice and review: This gun has a fairly quick reload time, at least when compared to the other light machine guns. The recoil also appears to be easier to control, so you might not even need a recoil control stick to pull off better precision shots. Still, it is best used at medium ranges, and is fairly ineffective at any range past about 100 feet or so. The magazine size is also very large, so you won’t have to reload too often.

MG36

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 100
Extra Magazines: 4
Required Rank: Captain

My advice and review: This is my personal favourite light machine gun. It has great accuracy (even more so with the recoil control stick). This gun has a very fast reload time, and of course, like all of them; it has a whole lot of bullets. You can be a bit more precise with this gun, since it has a scope build right on it. It can be used as either a support gun, or an accurate killing machine. The only drawback is you have to be a captain to use it in multiplayer.

M249 SPW

Damage: IIIIIIII
Range: IIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 100
Extra Magazines: 4

My advice and review: This gun is pretty much the same as the MK46, but I found that it had a bit more recoil. Not a huge difference, but I don’t think this gun is very accurate.

Assault Rifles:

General Tips and advice while using them:

- Fire in short bursts rather than just holding down the trigger. You will be much more accurate.

- Try to conserve bullets as much as possible. I noticed with a lot of assault rifles, you are not given too many magazines (spares), so to avoid running out, only shoot if necessary. This will also help you keep your position without being detected too easily.

- Find a good place to sit, or a good area to be around.

- Get into cover, and watch the side-to-side recoil when scoping in become less noticeable. It really can help you improve your accuracy.

The Assault Rifles in Rainbow 6 Vegas:

552 Commando

Damage: IIIIIIII
Range: IIIIIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8
Required Rank: Specialist

My advice and review: A strong assault rifle, but it lacks a little bit in accuracy. When using it, you should definitely fire in shorter bursts, because your gun would go all over the place if you did not. Other than slight accuracy issues, this is a great weapon, and it is extremely powerful. It can kill people effectively from short to semi-long ranges. It has a fair rate of fire, and you will not run out of ammunition easily.

AK-47

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 31
Extra Magazines: 8
Required Rank: Master Sergeant

My advice and review: This gun is perfect if you want to pick off enemies from a distance, on the first shot that is. If you do not pulse the trigger button, this gun will go all over the place yet it is one of the most accurate guns on the first shot. One thing I like about this gun is the fact that you can find a good position and single fire it to sort of “snipe” your enemy. I really recommend doing this, as I’ve scored many kills behind cover sniping by only firing one shot at an enemy’s head. As far as body shots go, this gun is fairly powerful. Additionally, if you are aiming for body shots, use the pulsing trigger method, as it will be way more effective. This gun is good at short to semi-long ranges and has excellent stopping power.

AUG A3

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: II
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 31
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: Even though the game rates this gun’s accuracy at two bars, I beg to differ when firing behind cover. I find it is as good as any gun when it comes to shooting behind cover. When you’re shooting out of cover, however, it is one of the wackiest guns in the game. I found there was a huge amount of recoil, so when using this gun, try to avoid those confrontations because the recoil will not help you. Also, when scoping in, there is a large amount of recoil, so this gun really isn’t too accurate unless you are shooting in cover. It is good at short to medium ranges.

FAMAS

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIIIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 26
Extra Magazines: 10
Required Rank: Available at start

My advice and review: One of my personal favourite guns. One thing that sets this weapon apart from a lot of them is its insane accuracy. It is best used at short to semi-long ranges, and it is very effective if you use the pulse the trigger when firing. The only problem I have with this gun is it doesn’t give you enough spare ammunition. I find that you run out way too often, and that is not too good when in the heat of battle. Still, you can sort of counteract this by aiming well, because this gun does not have too much recoil. I really recommend this gun for beginners or advanced players.

G36C

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIIIII
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 31
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: This is another fairly good weapon. I disagree with the accuracy rating though. Personally, I think this gun is just as good as the FAMAS, if not a bit worse. Still, there is nothing wrong with this gun at all. It is effective at short to semi-long ranges. The bullets are also fairly powerful by themselves. You do not need a lot of ammunition for a kill. Another thing I noticed is the fairly high rate of fire. This is good when you are going 1v1 against someone, but it is a very bad drawback when in a very big firefight, because you will find yourself reloading a lot.

G3KA4

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIIIIIII
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: One of the best assault rifles in the game, in my honest opinion. This gun is effective up to a long range, and when a scope such as an acog scope is added, it can add even more accuracy. This gun is best used on pretty much any map, since it is so useful in pretty much any situation.   The gun has bad recoil, however.

M8

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIIIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: I don’t find myself using this gun too often, but it really isn’t too bad. The accuracy is average. I do find that it has a lot of recoil, but that recoil is lowered significantly when behind cover. Also, this gun has a fast rate of fire, and a lot of extra bullets too. So unlike the FAMAS, you will not run out of ammunition as quickly. This gun is fairly good at any range up to about medium range. Maps that are smaller or have a lot of rooms will definitely favour this weapon.

MTAR21

Damage: IIIIIIII
Range: IIIIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: I have been killed many times with this gun, and that is completely understandable. While it doesn’t have the greatest accuracy in the world, it makes up for that in pure power and rate of fire. This weapon is perfect for any range up to medium range. I have seen people get me from a long ways away, so this gun can kill people better if you pulse the trigger.

SCAR-H CQC

Damage: IIIIIII
Range: IIIIIIII
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 30
Extra Magazines: 8

My advice and review: This is usually one of the best choices when picking an assault rifle. This gun is steady when firing (still use the pulse trick, it will make the gun more accurate), its bullets are very powerful, and there is plenty of ammunition. Really, this is an all-around great assault rifle.

Sniper Rifles:

General tips and advice while using them:

- You must find a good place to hide. Because being a sniper is all about concealment and not giving away your position. You should try to find a good place with a clear shot near the action, or objective.

- When you kill one or two people, switch places slightly so your enemies do not catch on.

- Do not run into the middle of a battle, because it will be kind of hard to combat an assault rifle or shotgun at close ranges.

- When looking for a target, do not keep your body exposed for too long so you do not reveal your position. Staying open for too long also makes you a target.

The Sniper Rifles in Rainbow 6 Vegas:

M4OA1

Damage: IIIIIIIIII
Range IIIIIIIII
Accuracy: IIIIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 5
Extra Magazines: 9

My advice and review: This is a great sniper rifle to use. It has a quick reload time for a bolt action rifle, and it is also very devastating at long ranges. It also has great accuracy at very long ranges, although it can lack accuracy at short ranges.

SV-98

Damage: IIIIIIIIII
Range: IIIIIIIII
Accuracy: IIIIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 5
Extra Magazines: 9
Required Rank: Master Sergeant

My advice and review: This weapon is basically the exact same as the M4OA1, so there is no real point going into it further. It just has a slightly different look.

PSG1

Damage: IIIIIIII
Range: IIIIIIIII
Accuracy: IIIIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 5
Extra Magazines: 9

My advice and review: This is the fastest sniper rifle in the game. What it lacks in power (which doesn’t mean much anyway since it will most likely kill on the first shot) it makes up in firing speed. This is what I call the “automatic sniper” because it can shoot off a whole magazine very quickly, and that can give you a bit of room for error.

Scout Tactical

Damage: IIIIIIIIII
Range: IIIIIIIII
Accuracy: IIIIIIIIII
Magazine Size: 5
Extra Magazines: 9

My advice and review: This is another weapon that is almost exactly the same as the SV-98 or M4OA1 sniper. It reloads a bit differently though, and this is its drawback. It takes a split second more to reload.

Shotguns:

General Tips and Advice While Using Them:

- Only for use in maps that are smaller, or have areas with a lot of rooms. The further away you fire at something, the less effect it will have. Shotguns are only effective at closer ranges.

- Only reload when you have to because most of the shotguns have poor reload times, you’ll want to plan ahead so you don’t get stuck without your primary weapon.

The Shotguns in Rainbow 6 Vegas:
M3

Damage: IIIIIIII
Range: II
Accuracy: III
Magazine Size: 8
Extra Magazines: 14

My advice and review: This is a very powerful gun at closer ranges, but it tends to be less effective when you get too far from your enemy (About 20 feet or so). Other than that, this is a great weapon to use when going inside a building to clear it out, or when you are relatively close to your enemy. At close ranges it is a one shot kill, whereas if you go further, it will take more shots for a kill. The reload time is average for a shotgun. You have to pump once for every bullet fired in the previous magazine, and that could take a while if you were down to one or two bullets.

SPAS 12

Damage: IIIIIIIII
Range: II
Accuracy: III
Magazine Size: 8
Extra Magazines: 14
Required Rank: Captain

My advice and review: This is another great shotgun. It is a little bit more powerful than most of the shotguns, giving it a better range as well. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same as most of them except for the automatic shotgun. It has an average reload time too.

870MCS

Damage: IIIIIIIII
Range: II
Accuracy: III
Magazine Size: 8
Extra Magazines: 14

My advice and review: This gun is identical to the SPAS 12 in performance, it just looks a bit different. I found no difference with any of its stats in this game.

XM-26

Damage:
Range:
Accuracy:
Magazine Size: 6
Extra Magazines: 23

My advice and review: The “auto shotty”. This weapon is fierce at close ranges, but almost useless at long ranges. If you hold X while this weapon is selected, you can switch from single fire mode to automatic. This gun is called a “newbie cannon” a lot because of its insane power. If you are new to this game, it is recommended that you try this gun out, because it really is a good set of training wheels. It reloads quickly too, but its magazine size is extremely small.

The Secondary Weapons (Pistols) in Rainbow 6 Vegas:

General tips and advice while using a pistol:

- They are your last resort options. Use them if you don’t have time to reload your primary weapon, or if you are out of ammunition.

- Aim for the head, because body shots with pistols are relatively ineffective, especially if your enemy is wearing a lot of armour.

- Try using different attachments such as the extra capacity magazine (If you’re able to), or the laser sight. These attachments can improve your pistol game significantly.

Pistol Information and Advice for Individual Pistols:

MK-23

Damage: IIIII
Range: III
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 13
Extra Magazines: (Unlimited)

My advice and review: This is one of the most average pistols you could possibly have. It can kill an enemy in 2 to 3 body shots, or 1 headshot. It is fairly accurate, and has a good rate of fire, plus a lot of bullets. Its reload time is average as well.

USP40

Damage: IIII
Range: III
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 13
Extra Magazines: (Unlimited)
Required Rank: Specialist

My advice and review: This is one of the most accurate pre-captain pistols that you can use. It has about the same firing rate as the MK-23, but it is slightly weaker. You should be able to down someone in maximum 3 body shots, or 1 headshot. This pistol is a fairly good choice for beginners.

Glock 18

Damage: III
Range: IIIII
Accuracy: IIII
Magazine Size: 10
Extra Magazines: (Unlimited)

My advice and review: Another average pistol, when you fire single shot. The thing that sets this pistol apart from the other ones is its ability to switch to an automatic fire. To do so, hold X and press up on the D-pad until you see a little symbol that looks like a chain of bullets. This pistol is devastating at closer ranges, and it can almost compete with some submachine guns. Really, its a great choice for a pistol.

92FS

Damage: IIII
Range: IIIIII
Accuracy: IIIIII
Magazine Size: 15
Extra Magazines: (Unlimited)

My advice and review: This is probably one of the best pre-master sergeant pistols you can get in this game. It is powerful, accurate, and it has a lot of ammunition. I found that 2 body shots will kill someone, and 1 headshot will also kill someone.

Raging Bull

Damage: IIIIIIIII
Range: IIIII
Accuracy: IIIII
Magazine Size: 6
Extra Magazines: (Unlimited)
Required Rank: Master Sergeant

My advice and review: This is the good old revolver in Rainbow 6. It has immense stopping power, however there are a few issues that are worth addressing here: This gun has awful accuracy when you have to fire more than one shot, there is not enough ammunition per magazine, and the gun reloads very slowly. These factors make it not so good of a gun, and I tend to like the 92FS way more in a pistol fight.

Desert Eagle

Damage: IIIIIIII
Range: IIIIII
Accuracy: IIIIII
Magazine Size: 7
Extra Magazines: (Unlimited)
Required Rank: Captain

My advice and review: The best pistol in the game for a few reasons. It is powerful, it fires quickly, and it is more accurate than the Raging Bull. If you hit someone dead on with this pistol, chances are that you are going to kill them. The only thing that isn’t too good is its magazine size, but you could always ix that by using an extra capacity magazine.

The SHIELD

The shield can be used to protect you from fire. It cannot however protect your back, or shield you from hand grenades or other thrown weapons such as incendiary grenades. It can basically only protect your front. Some tips when using it include:
- Keeping your back to the wall
- Looking out for enemies throwing grenades
- Crouching to protect the front of your legs
- Look both ways before crossing an area
- Use flash-bangs in multiplayer, or smokes

Rankings for the weapon types at different ranges from most effective to least effective:

Short Range:
1. Shotgun
2. Submachine gun
3. Assault Rifle
4. Light Machine gun
5. Sniper Rifle

Medium Range:
1. Assault Rifle
2. Light Machine Gun
3. Submachine gun
4. Sniper Rifle
5. Shotgun

Long Range:
1. Sniper Rifle
2. Assault Rifle
3. Light Machine Gun
4. Submachine Gun
5. Shotgun

The Multiplayer Gadgets and Throw able Weapons:

GPS Device: This is a useful gadget for multiplayer because it temporarily reveals enemy positions on the map.

Radar Jammer: Use this to disrupt enemy GPS in the area.  This can really disrupt their efforts, so use the radar jammer wisely.

Motion Sensor: A laser tripwire that reveals enemies when they step on it. Try to place them in useful areas, but also try to hide them, because if an enemy finds the GPS device, he/she can shoot it, therefore disabling it. The laser tripwire is very noticeable, so it is best that you try to conceal that part as much as possible.

C4 Explosive: A deadly weapon that can be triggered remotely. It usually kills people within a 10 foot radius of the blast. Place C4 on doors, windows, near rappel points, near objectives (Such as the intelligence in attack and defend), or on floors. Pretty much anywhere an enemy steps is a great place for a little bit of C4.

Breaching Charge: It is an explosive that is stuck on doors to break the door, and wound or kill nearby people/enemies. You should try to conceal it as much as possible, because enemies will get smart and detonate it by shooting it. Try to combine a motion sensor with a breaching charge to know exactly when to detonate it.

Flash-Bang Grenade: A flash-bang is a grenade that temporarily blinds nearby enemies. You should try throwing them in doors or in rooms with many enemies, as they could be immobilized for a good few seconds – Which is enough time to move out of danger, or kill the nearby enemies.

Tear Gas: A gas that temporarily makes it difficult for you to see. If you inhale too much tear gas, your screen will turn almost completely foggy. It can be a real annoyance for some, but it is very effective. Throw it in rooms, and watch the tear gas fill the room, and affect anyone inside. When using tear gas, you should make sure that you are at a safe distance so you’re not affected by its effects.

Smoke Grenade: Use this gadget to provide cover for you and your team-mates, or confuse the enemy. Keep in mind though, that smoke grenades have limited effect in multiplayer versus because players can just activate their thermal vision, but smoke is very effective in terrorist hunt or co-op story.

Incendiary Grenade: A nasty version of a hand grenade that burns everything in sight where it is thrown. Use it like a fragmentation grenade: Throw it in rooms, windows, or areas hat are heavily infested with enemies. This can be a very catastrophic weapon if used correctly.

Fragmentation Grenade: An effective tool to kill multiple enemies. Use them the same as you would an incendiary grenade. The only difference in performance is the fragmentation grenade blows up and injures people with shrapnel rather than fire.

XM50 Gas Mask: This gadget protects you from airborne toxins or disease, but in this game, it protects you from the effects of tear gas.

SF10 Gas Mask: Another version of the gas mask in this game. This one covers your whole face, and also protects you from tear gas.

Prologue: I hope you find this guide very useful. Happy gaming everybody.
