Re: GamerParents 5.0 ~ One Thread to rule them all ~
After reading alot of these replies to EJ's post **cough** (not mine), it's looking like that retro gaming session is a good idea. I have alot of games I'm looking at, but my Wife told me a couple months back to save for my Bday and Xmas. Now things look tight, so I'll be lucky to get 2 if not 1 of these games.Sad [:(]

I would have leaned towards MW or L4D2 (didn't buy the first after hearing about an expanded sequel), but all the talk about Borderlands and DD's talk of Dragon Age has me leaning towards those. I want something with a great SP experiance. If I can get Co-op, even better. That's where I stand.Crying [:'(]

Honestly... why bother?

UB - I don't know if it gets better than Borderlands for that.  I know you are an RPG fan and twitch shooter fan.  You can get all those things in spades with Borderlands.  The campaign is fun solo or co-op.  It's the only game I know that actually gets better with a second playthrough.  On playthrough 2 there are more enemies, tougher enemies, and better loot.  Add that in with the 30 + hours of one playthrough and that equals an epic win.
In fact, Borderlands may be why I wait and get L4D2.  I still have more than a week left playing that game.  It's one I'll play long after getting the full 1000.

Wow miss a few days in the forums and you get far behind...

@EJ I am glad your wife is feeling better and they got it all..

@UB Borderlands is a great game I think you would really enjoy it.

And as far as the November rain of games I am getting a few I shouldnt I am still jobless the market sucks heading to the 7th month marker this time being jobless and on top of my close to 6 months unemployment last year makes it very hard to keep up on new games.  On my list of wants is Dragon Age origins, MWF2, L4D2, and Asassins Creed 2.  There is a few other I have seen coming out but they probable will be rentals or pick them up later one day.

Ok, I dwell on my game list more than I should, but I have put money down on MW2.  I think it is going to great, the single player will be fun, the multi-player will be limit less, and the Co-op two player missions will probably be great as well, especially if I can get teamed up with some of my GDL buddies.

I went back and forth on LFD2 and I just could not do it, it seems a little soon for me to be going through that type game again.

I also just put money down on Dark Siders, and will probably put money down on Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2.  AHHHH!!!!  TOO many games and I don't know what to do........

Lol I scrolled through the last page just looking for your post.  We got our butts kicked, I literally was slightly physcially ill after the game.  But look at it this way, UO was the better team and the played like it.  And the last team to win the Pac-10 before USC's run?  That's right, the Ducks.  So UO deserves to go to the Rose Bowl, kill the Big 10.

I wasn't going to rub it in, the on-the-field results said it all.  I had a friend call me the day before and tell me he got a pair of tickets for us.  They were fantastic theater-style seats on the 47 yard line.  I've never had better tickets in my life, and for such a big game made it even more special.

This is a case where I don't anything is wrong with USC, but more everything is right for the Ducks.  USC may win out this year, I truly believe the Ducks are just that good.  They would score on Florida, Alabama, Texas, etc.  This is the best Oregon team since the 11-1 final ranked #2 team from 2001 and looked as dominant as the Dennis Dixon team from two years ago (until his fateful ACL injury, talk about making you feel physically ill).

Barring injury, I think this team can go 11-1 and drub whatever Big 10 team we get matched up with in the Rose Bowl.  If the stars align and we get a shot at it all, Texas or whoever will need to be on their toes.  Wishful thinking, got Stanford this week.

I will be getting MW2, after I paid it off last weekend and bought DJ Hero.  I split my money between MW2 and MAG(PS3 title), and I really do not see myself getting into LD2.  I liked the first but not enough to get it again.  Now, that some decent title are coming out for the PS3, I will be spending sometime over there, too.  But after the New Year, I am looking forward to the next Splinter Cell and a little talk about game Rogue Warrior based on the 10% fact and 90% BS book by some bad*** Navy Seal from Vietnam.  Supposedly, the MP maps will be voted on by each team and the computer will pick a third piece for the map.  Then the map will be made and you start shooting at each other.  This sounds very intersting and something all devs should look into to keep maps fresh for the games.  Instead, of us memorize each map to a T.  They should make us wonder where we are and work as a team in these military games.
I can't help but get the impression here that some forget G.R.A.W/ Vegas is not the series but Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six is.

If I recall correctly, the last time the Ducks were in the Rose Bowl.  The Nittany Lions ran all over them. I thinked that was the year, Ki-Jana Carter or Blair Thomas took the opening snap from scrimmage ran it to the house. And the Ducks scored some but couldn't keep up with Penn State.

That's an easy prediction, JD.  As much as it pains me to say it, the Big 10 is downright awful this year.  Iowa would get crushed by any one of the real Top 10 teams, and they're our best?
My greatest concern for the Big 10 is that Iowa will get to a BCS game, play someone like Boise St. (who I still feel is a fraud), or Cinci or some other flash in the pan school and get pwned...hard.  Not because the other school is that good, but Iowa (and the Big 10) is that bad.

Re: GamerParents 5.0 ~ One Thread to rule them all ~

I'm going to grab my shovel and continue the deep...

UB – the problem lies in the belief many parents have in the innate goodness of man.  History shows this not to be the case and we are doomed to repeat the darkest periods of history if we cannot recognize the preludes to war.  I’m not about to toss my son in front of the TV and make him watch a Vietnam documentary, but I will expose him to violence in a responsible manner – showing the benefits and consequences of action.

I have the same issue with several of my friends, until I explain the rationale behind the study of violence.  “The only rational reason to master violence is to abolish it.” This was the mantra drummed into my head from day one in entering martial arts.  One cannot truly respect and defend liberty and freedom without understanding the measures taken in the past to install and preserve it.

Video games are the current means of storytelling - no different than novels, radio shows, TV, or movies in the past.  The games designed for children are very clear cut – black/white and play out a story of good vs. evil, with good always triumphing.  The games designed for more mature audiences play in the grey areas, although even though some games may glamorize “evil doers”, they typically do the right thing.  The reason I keep coming back to the GTA series are that the main character makes the honorable decision – defending family, friends, etc. and is portrayed as a victim of circumstance.

EJ – I’m going to be your most biased source, but you have to go with L4D2!  Zombies!!!  Sorry, but I’m riding a zombie high this year after L4D, Crash Course, and Zombieland.

Looking at my friends list I’m upset that I’m not getting Dragon Age, but I just can’t justify another game right now when I haven’t finished many of the titles I own.  I still have tons of content to go through in Fallout and loving every radiation soaking minute of it, then I have Borderlands to try out and MUA2 which keeps giving me dirty looks.

I agree, I think this program is going to be used in phishing scams. It's too easy, just blurt out free stuff to enough people and you'll get someone to bite, unfortunately. Hopefully MS will get on top of it before it gets out of hand.

Honestly, I want both games but I will not be getting either one at launch. Will be late to the multi-player party for both. But not that big of a deal as I prefer the multi-player style that L4D offered. Otherwise I focus on the campaign play through and co-op if the game has it. Assassins Creed 2 is another game that will wait but I want.

Totally forgat about Mass Affect 2 and Bioshock2.

I just heard about this game a few weeks ago when it popped up on the x360a site.  Richard Marcinko, founder of SEAL Team Six and one of the finest officers to ever serve, played a huge part in this one.  This one just moved up to #1 on my must have list.  I hope the game play lives up to the folks behind it.

Marcinko has a lot of controversy about him because, frankly, he looked out for his men.  He did two things wrong:

1.  Under DCNO Lyons he embarrassed several high ranking officials with operation Red Cell, exposing the weaknesses in national security.  They took down Air Force One, numerous military bases including Groton and Scott AFB, and simulated importing dirty bombs/CBR weapons into the states.

2.  He bypassed established contracts and procured the weapons and equipment they needed to get the job done.  Since the duly deemed elected officials and lobbyists didn't get their payoff they prosecuted him with "misappropriation of funds".  After being railroaded he decided to write the book to clear his name.

I disagree a bit on the fact there is no difference.  While I am not saying that slaying people in a game will lead to that in real life being an active participant vs a passive one always changes the way that your brain handles things.

Film added a layer to storytelling with visuals vs radio.  The way your brain reacts when hearing a crime and seeing it is profound.  There have even been studies on how people react differently watching the same footage in a theater vs watching it at home where they have more comfort.  Even within the visual medium there are factors that change the way you experience the story.

Well, this true.  But i remeber Thomas getting drafted by the Jets(they were horrible at the time) and Carter I think by the Bengals.  I will concede that most players from PSU are not the type of players to put new life all by themselves into NFL teams.  You could definitely build around them and maybe have a good team after two or three years. On Enis, I really don't remember him in the NFL.  But at Paul P. is doing good for your Buffalo Bills.  He is at least keeping his college numbers for tackles in the NFL.  It is good to see him back after he broke his arm last year.

I would have but I don't think you up early this morning when I got home from work.  And this year in college football it is all about when you lost a game for the 1 loss teams where you are ranked.  Boise State, TCU and Cincy have beat a ranked opponent but very weak ones at that.  At least Iowa beat PSU, which no matter what the media says will always be considered a traditional college football power just like Notre Dame and others because of their independent records before joining a conference.  Just like I have said on the NCAA forums, I think it was a mistake for PSU to join the Big Ten and get seven of their games locked in.  And then have very few teams to pick from to play the other four.  At least, next few years we will be again playing the Crimson Tide.  It will be like the old days again.  Bama just won't have an iconic coach on the sideline for those games.  Finally, we will see about your prediction, if it is Iowa and they let your Ducks out in front, I doubt they would be able to come back.  Actually, Iowa needs to stop doing that to anyone, because one game they won't be able to come back and win.

Right now, though, I am really loving Bioshock. The wife picked it up for me dirt cheap and I'm glad she did since I never got to finish it before. Anyone else really excited about the second one? The multiplayer looks to be good, clean, fun.
