I am really looking forward to it.  I like the idea of being a Big Daddy.  The mp looks really good too, not MW2 good, but good.  Gametrailers did a show on it a couple weeks ago and it totally sold me on it.  Just waiting to see if Gamestop has any pre-order bonus.

Well, after MW2 comes out I will probably pick up one more game this year before christmas (mainly something new for Thanksgiving vacation).  So, what should it be?  My short list is either Brutal Legend, Borderlands, or Dirt 2.  Any other suggestions?

Dude... Borderlands, hands down.
Seriously, if it weren't for MW2 it would have a good shot for GotY.  As it is, I think it will get nominated.

I finished a play through of Bioshock on my PS3 tonight. I figured that I was probably the only one that hadn't played it at this point. It has an interesting story line and some good game play. I'll admit that I've been playing it on easy and I'm not so sure if I could complete it on a harded difficulty. I rescued all of the little sisters and now I can't help but wonder if the game would have ended any differnet if I had harvested them.

I keep joining games in borderlands and playing the same parts over and over.  It's awesome.  I'm not getting bored of it at all and there is plenty of replay value.  Like Artemis Artium and EJ have said, I agree with them.

I'm saying if MW2 weren't releasing this year Borderlands would have a puncher's chance at winning GotY.
Borderlands is sooo much more than an FPS.  The RPG is as important as anything else.  It has created a new genre.

edit:  I looked it up and it was the 1994 Rose Bowl and PSU won 38-20.

As an NFL fan those two names made me laugh.  More PSU HB busts?  Yes please...  Why no Curtis Enis mention?

Well, this true.  But i remeber Thomas getting drafted by the Jets(they were horrible at the time) and Carter I think by the Bengals.  I will concede that most players from PSU are not the type of players to put new life all by themselves into NFL teams.  You could definitely build around them and maybe have a good team after two or three years. On Enis, I really don't remember him in the NFL.  But at Paul P. is doing good for your Buffalo Bills.  He is at least keeping his college numbers for tackles in the NFL.  It is good to see him back after he broke his arm last year.

Enis went 5th overall to the Bears. 1497 yards in 3 years with a 3.3 ypc.

I was ecstatic when we drafted Poz.  Unfortunately he does not play in a system that fits his skills.  His problem with his tackles is that he never knocks the guy backwards...I am hoping if they change schemes to an attack D that he can get his mojo back.

It's funny how that works. GotY is something that's liked by the masses. Interesting. Btw, I like most every Genre. I don't like to limit the things I can enjoy, or select from. However, I find my tastes shift towards a certain type or style from time to time.
Honestly... why bother?

This is the mind set that, I think, would benefit many people. For example: I generally don't like rhythm or dancing-rhythm games. That does not mean I won't pick one up every now and then for cheap and see if I can get into it. Racing and sports games are another example. I'm always willing to try a good racing game but I generally get bored. I still have yet to buy a sports game. (I don't even I have one on my gamercard.) I am waiting to initiate a massive growth of gamerscore before I pick them up.

Also, it was said that I dislike FPS's. I don't think dislike is a strong enough word. My problem with FPS's is that I think they are the most repetitive genre of game produced. Even the the ones that try to disguise themselves in RPG elements (worse than just plain FPS games) like Fallout 3, Bioshock, and I'm assuming, Borderlands. At the end of the day the goal is the same, as well as the game play, run around and shoot everything.

I've tried different FPS's from time to time and to be honest I can't see a difference from one FPS to another. I enjoy just about every other genre of video game except FPS's. For the life of me I can't understand their attraction, but I suppose that's a failing on my part, which everyone likes to point out whenever I mention the scourge on video games that is the FPS.

Please note this is meant as a lighthearted tongue-in-cheek post but I expect to be blasted (no pun intended) by all the FPS lovers out there.

I can respect your Stick out tongue [:P] rant. However, the same can be said about every single genre.

Racing: At the end of the day, you are just going around some coarse, driving a vehicle. It was so repetitive.
Fighting: At the end of the day, you just pushed some buttons to make a virtual fighter beat the crap out of another virtual fighter. It was so repetitive.
Adventure: At the end of the day, all you did was explore an area, find some treasure, and move on to the next area. It was so repetitive.

I won't go on any more but suffice it to say that ALL games are repetitive when you want to look at them from a pecimistic point of view. This is not a bashing, just my opinion.

Re: GamerParents 5.0 ~ One Thread to rule them all ~
You brought up a good point about all games being repetitive, because frankly, most games are.  Whether you're stalking each other down to shoot each other to bits, whamming on plastic instruments, driving in circles, playing cards, or trying to gain experience to level up, if you boil it down, you're doing pretty much the same thing within any gaming genre, just with a different scenery and slightly tweaked controls and powers/abilities.

I prefer the repetitive nature of stalking people down and shooting them to bits, whereas I'd rather smack my head into a wall than play a racing or fighting game.  I figure I can drive in circles or spar in real life if need be, whereas society probably wouldn't look kindly on me for meleeing everyone I meet or creating a hail storm of sticky grenades.  I think it just boils down to which type of repetitiveness each person prefers, so to each his/her own.  :)

I don't believe that there is really a game on the 360 that couldn't have been done on the Xbox. It wouldn't look as pretty but the gameplay would be the same. I'm sure we will see all of the same stuff on the next generation consoles just with even prettier graphics.

Points taken.  It is just that while "Groundhog Day" is a funny enjoyable film it does not translate in real life.  I am not a fan of a few genres but as Enfarine said, to each their own.  Perhaps to make these rants more tongue in cheek in the future you can have a catchphrase, " I am Celidus and...well you know the rest..."Stick out tongue [:P]

Actually, many games would not be able to run because of the sheer amount of enemies and NPC's on screen at one time. Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising are two very prominent examples.

Re: GamerParents 5.0 ~ One Thread to rule them all ~
While all games are repetative (to a degree) where the fun comes in is the strategy and ramping up of difficulty.  The feeling of success as you make progress towards an end goal.

In my beloved fighting genere you progress towards a final boss like the ultra-cheap Seth in SF4.
In sports games we have goals of finally taking our teams to the Super Bowl (that'll never happen with my Lions) or return our favorite college teams to glory (GO BLUE!)
In most FPS games battles escalate until you reach the final (and hopefully climactic) shoot out with the ultimate bag guy or horde of bad guys.
In RPG games you get the satisfaction of taking you character from a hopelessly overmatched noob to someone who can dominate even the toughest of foes.

Much like good stories, a good game will suck you in because it is somehow relateable.  We all want to be heroes.  We all want to save (or destroy) the world.  We all have this desire to improve and better ourselves over time.
Why do we love Rocky?  Because we love the story of an underdog who rises to become the champ.  Lord of the Rings, because it is about triumph in the face of impossible odds.  The difference is while a good movie or book will simply let you watch the story unfold gaming will actually let you control that protagonist.
Advantage: video games of any genre.

And no worries at all, cel.  If we all agreed on everything how would the forums be any fun?

I would disagree with this.  A great video game certainly can allow you to experience the story in a way that films never can ( by taking on the role).  But  a great film or book will always trump a mediocre, or average video game.

There are very few video game stories I can think of that hit the highest bar in terms of well told story and game play meeting in sublime perfection. And I feel that with one but not the other that it fails to be great in this genre.  If the control is what makes it a more sublime genre then it needs to be there.  And great controls without a great story makes me feel like something is lacking.  So video games have a tougher row to hoe in that respect.

I don't think there is enough space in these forums to write all the books, films and TV series that have that effect on me.  Even handicapped with not being able to have me control a character they slay 99 percent of the games I have played in terms of being a memorable experience.

Now video games are a new genre, esp when it comes to serious storytelling.  I am sure in the coming years the list will grow.

Being a huge movie fan - once video games raised the bar in storytelling I played more games than movies, simply for the increased interaction.  Good storytelling is the key here though and unfortunately is very difficult to translate between the various forms of media.  Video games will always have the rougher road as they have to have great stories, characters, control, and fixing that darn camera angle!  Storytelling in video games rarely strays beyond the action genre, although I'm still waiting for "The Piano" the game.

...and despite my previous statements I'm a sucker for marketing and anything BioWare - picked up Dragon Age last night and drooling over the box.  5:00 cannot come soon enough today...

Diver, you crack me up... I got DA last night as well.. pre-ordered and got all the bonus goodies.. I've yet to play it simply because I was just too exhausted last night.. the boy is running around and I just can't devout a good hour for storylines.. As of this posting, he's ran in the kitchen at least 6 times... trying to get the glass cleaner to spray.. trying to get the pots and pans... he is fascinated with the kitchen.. again, I need an energy shield in the kitchen.. On a positive note, he's picked up the DS again and is actually playing mario kart... I think his little fingers fit perfectly on the buttons.  It's so cute watching my boy grow up.... I wonder what his playing genre will be like? My 15 year old is all about RPG.. My 8 year old, believe it or not is all FPS... poor thing and she  can't play any of those games (she does sneak them a lot) ..

Nien - I may have overshot my comment a little there...  I don't think that games are better than stories (regardless of form) but they do up the involvement in some aspects.  While influence in the outcome is greater (something we often pray for in movies and books when we want a different ending than the one we get), emotional attachment isn't.  You know I am a book snob and a quasi-movie snob!

We can agree to disagree...loved him in the films.  The last thing LoTR needed was Simple Jack.  It would've thrown things off.  I think he played it dim, but he was out-dimmed by Merry and Pippin.
