Hmmmm yes cats do love fish but they also love duck.....especially with a nice orange sauce.

Having a lot of trouble getting used to this two stick controls. Am going to practice on oblivion for a while to try and get the hang of it.......well thats when i get a moment that im not doing something else and Mr Fish has let go of the controller.

Been reading all the stuff you all write in here, just never had much to say, but I thought maybe throwing in something to add to your pages.

 

Tried to teach TwinMummy some GOW but she just gets motion sick from the movement. Had the pair of 3 year olds playing the Free Roam Arena in FIFA. I think in a few years they might kick my butt all over the box.

Just one other thing..... Have you ever thought of running your own "Dad's Army" forum instead of just using 1 topic in the Xbox forum?

So much for backwards compatibility. My Halo2 disc is an ' unplayable disc ' according to my so called next gen, old technology box. Is it just BlackAza and me that had this problem? I think the laser in my 360 is as weak as a light beer, I get alot of disc read errors with spotless discs. Missed out on the trip down Halo lane but I noticed you guys didn't play for too long before getting back into Gear.

What the f#ck is with the search for ranked gears matches. After having a discussion 2 nights ago about never having any trouble finding ranked matches after being sent the info, I can't find sh!t. Two nights straight I've been lookin for matches hosted by Baygon77 and Hillman10 and all I get is four or five results with red ping. I refine my search to min and max rounds as the number I want. Does it make a difference who your ISP is? Not sure who Hillman is with but Baygon77 is with iinet and I've never heard of them in SA. It shouldn't matter a toss though. I think the search code just blows. I can reset my modem, sign in and out of live and still get the same four or five red ping games when I know damn well there were two 11 round matches hosted by prefered players in my friends list. No trouble joining player matches after an invite though.

I have even had Glitch Tennant at my place on the same line as me and we both hit search at the same time but get different matches. Gears of War is the best and the worst game on 360 at the same time. Does Epic have other online games or is this their first attempt?

Im addicted to Gears, I need another patch.

I've had trouble finding Gears games as well, especially Sat night. Wonder what's going on...I've also tried hosting a ranked game and waited....and waited...nobody wants to play ranked? Host a public player game then ...waiting ...waiting ...everyone must have gone to bed. Maybe I'm not patient enough. Maybe I don't know what I'm doing.

Halo 2 night was a bit of a flop. We only had 7 players. Thanks to Baygon though for the organising etc.

I had a bit of trouble finding hillman last night, after several refeshes his game came up with 4 people in it, so i clicked on it only to get the "Disconnected from host" message after a bit of loading, so i go back to trying to find it and again after some refreshing it comes up with 7 players, so i s.hit myself knowing i'll probably not get in. but this time it was all good.

And i haven't been able to get into a Baygon and Broken match in ages, but i think that's cause they are ever so popular and i am never quick enough to get a spot.(hope they don't think i'm trying to avoid them)

I think that I may kinda sorta know what is going on.................... the thing is that well ummmmm

 

you see..........

 

Gears is based on a leaderboard system that when a ranked search is performed the server tries to hook you up with players of a similar skill level. That means that if People like Hillman10 play every night and get lots of (shotgun) kills then they rank up past everyone else.

      While this sucks.................. apparently the leaderboard is wiped clean every month so in a couple of days it should be easy to find each other again as we will be all the same rank. Then naturally it gets harder as the month goes on.

 

   So I believe anyway..................................... its part of the responsibility of us Level 2 Community users to pass on this information.................

      Now my fingers are tired and I think I'll leave ranked alone for a couple of days........

Ah yes this sounds like a logical explaination my Level 2 friend, HILLMAN10 gets all these kills just so he can rank higher than us and help with our rank...........or his?????

Personally I've lost the love when it comes to ranked. Sorry to all those who send me messages and I don't join. I'll be happy to be cannon fodder for you all though so keep them comin.

Maybe we can all stand around in a circle and down and revive eachother to get the revive ach. Should only take about 4 hours

ahhhh Troppo.... now there is a memory from way back on page 4... Those were the days Mr. Duck when we were all younger (i actually think i was cos it was just before my birthday), now as we get older and more cynical it would be nice to have him come back so we can see if he has matured.... as to is he 16 yet??? well he may be 16 years of age but i doubt his brain cells or body hair has reached the count yet...

 

Gears Of War 2... I see developers are now starting to construct story lines... Maybe with all the americans playing online we will see the COG traveling to a small country were the evil locusts have stock piled a weapon of mass destruction. COG will have to go in, try and kill as many of each other with friendly fire then hang around while the locust just pick them off over a number of years... Or even a jungle in act 2 where scantely clad girls scream "I love you long time $10 american" at dom & fenix while locust pop out of trap tunnel doors the hide again... game lasts for 6 years when the COG just give up and go home trying to tell everyone no honestly it was a victory.

Hmmmm... prey tell how you came by this information Level 2 Master Baygon77. It sounds feasible but from my experience over the last few nights something doesn't seem right.

I have played a fair few ranked games over the last few nights and was not far below Hillman10 in the all time rankings. I've only looked at the overall rank before but after taking a quick squiz at the weekly and monthly numbers I have got quite a few points more. At first glance your theory made sense as my extra points would exclude me from playing with you all. Then I saw that Glitch had scored around the same points as Hillman10 and yourself. I havn't been able to find ranked games from Hillman10 or you for a few nights but when Glitch hosted ranked yesterday I found the games with my first try everytime. Which leads me to believe that you have been the recipient and the poster of some misinformation.

Perhaps the search is hooking up people with a similar upload. Or it is working on a proximity basis. I am only 40mins away from Glitch. I have a meagre 256k upload, Glitch has 512k up. Glitch had no trouble joining Hillman10 in ranked but I couldn't find the same game with dozens of refreshes, a restart and reset modem.

The spanner in that one is that 4 or so nights ago I was able to find your ranked game when others couldn't. We sat in the lobby with Glitch and I jinxed myself by saying I never have trouble finding ranked games. Also how has the search changed when there havn't been any patches? Hmmmm.

I was unlucky enough to find a game that was just all wrong until I found out he only had 128k upload. The host naturally did very well as the slower the host speed the greater the ping for everyone else and the less responsive all the weapons are.

For all those out there with less than a 256k upload, DO NOT HOST.

Just out of curiosity Baygon, what does your connection rate at in an independent speed test. I've found that I get far less ping when I join games hosted by Glitch with his ADSL1 512k upload. It's almost like Im hosting myself only more fun.

Probably because I'm closer to him but surely ADSL2 should kick a$$ regardless of which state we are in.

Your connection has been great most of the time but I've noticed that it slows for a while sometimes and then speeds up without anyone new joining. Maybe it's just 'cos Im in SA. iinet don't even advertise as an ISP here, not that I've seen anyway. I've got Bigpond and sit 150m from the exchange so my upload is strong but it could be my connection that slows then speeds up again.

There are too many ISP's out there that offer low cost plans and boast large volumes of users, (which they accumulate by offering cheap plans), but they seriously lack the hardware and infrastructure to support everyone. ADSL2 is apparently far more dependent on how close the user is to the exchange and how many users are on the same exchange than ADSL1.

Maybe it's just the host 360 can't handle processing it all when there's lots of frags and boomshots and players all in close proximity. I've had a lot of slow motion moments that end in a " what the F#k happened? ". It's a lot of data to process and send to 7 other boxes. I've heard the host box supplies all game data and the joiners boxes only supply the textures for the info it's being sent and controller input. Which is why a host with a slow upload that is good anyway ends up looking like a Gears god at the end of match. Im sure we've all been on the receiving end of one or more of those absolute pantsing matches, we're nothing seems to come off except our heads round after round. Ping!

ADSL's explained-

Imagine a hose.......at a normal flow rate (ADSL1) you can get most of it into a container half a meter away with some but not much lose. Turn the tap to full (ADSL2) and you'll fill the container faster but you'll have water (data) all over the place. Move the container closer and you'll loose less water therefore the reason behind you having to sit on top of an exchange to get best ADSL2. Unfortunately ADSL2 is not designed for gaming where data informantion is essential, its great for playing against yanks but if your hosting then you really need the data traffic to be "in the zone". When bayges is hosting it's sweet as pie for me way over the east side (word-up ). Ranked is totally different because everything everyone does is logged on the "GoW god info-machine" eg. headshots, tags, boomshot etc. Every kill and every revive and down is recorded. This is why they tried putting blood splatter on the hosts screen so it would hinder their vision.
