Re: Busted Disc Drive Club
I should have mentioned in my first post (tried, but was too late to edit) that I now only buy Xbox360 exclusives for the 360. Anything that is available for the PS3 I buy it on that instead. I don't like having to bang on my console to get a disc to read - not only because it's a pain in the neck but because I'm afraid my discs will get damaged. I wonder how much money they are losing from people who have to buy their games for another console because of problems like this. It's too bad - because if I weren't having the problem I'd be buying them for the 360 instead because of the gamerpoints and community...
I'm playing ASSASSINS CREED 2 and DJ HERO for the PS3 (my 360 has trouble reading discs)

Ang. Busted Disc Drive Club
I just bought CoD5 WaW earlier this autumn. I had also bought 2100 Microsoft Points so I could buy the zombie maps and spend the rest of the day slaying zombies. When I got home I cashed in the Microsoft Points and closed the tray with CoD5 WaW in it. Then it started to run and suddenly: "Unreadable Disc. Try cleaning it with a soft sheet and restart your console." After a couple of days it started to work again. I was suprised, but happily suprised. CoD4 worked, even tho CoD5 WaW didn't work. Weird.

Well, I'm a member of this club again. "Luckily" this time my console is less than a year old so it should be repaired for free. Still what a pain since L4D2 and CoD:MW2 just came out.

Re: Busted Disc Drive Club
Ms needs to knock off the BS and give a 3 year warranty for everything. Ohh and they need to stop shipping out refurbished replacements or at the very lease send out refurbs that don't break in a few months.

This is SPAAARKSTEALTH (insert kick down well here)

Have they been sending refurbs for the optical drive problem? or just refurb drives? Last one I replaced the drive myself, it was cheaper to do it myself, but it was also a refurb and didn't last long. Then for my E67 error they sent me back the same console. It wouldn't make sense if I send them a one year old console and I get a refurb just because I needed a new optical drive.

I'm part of this club too, can swapping the drive myself and copying the firmware over get me banned?

What I did last time was buy the same drive model and swap the circuit board, that way you are not messing with the firmware.
