Re: GamerParents 5.0 ~ One Thread to rule them all ~

Hey gang, long time no chat!  Hope things are getting better for those going through the tough times recently...

Looks like I'm one of the few that is going with both MW2 and L4D2.  Right after one of my Xbox's disk drive went out, they announced the MW2 Limited Edition and that's a pretty good deal with the upgraded HDD and all imo.  Plus, I know many like L4D and feel that the sequel is coming too soon, but aren't we still waiting for Half-Life 3?  I see Valve's move here as similar to what Harmonix did when they released Rock Band 2.  Maintain the core elements, and fix/upgrade the major issues to enhance the experience for the player.  Valve has earned the reputation of taking too long to get sequels to their popular games out, but I think the improvements being laid down here should position them to really use DLC to stretch us out far longer than next year for Left 4 Dead 3 or whatever the next iteration brings.

Sounds like I'm really missing out on Borderlands, and I really liked Marvel Alliance 2 on rental.  I could go on all day about games I'd like to play though but don't have, so it's time to pull the reins and focus a little more on the titles I do have at the moment.  And I agree that ODST needs to find its' way back into my disk tray as well so let me know if anyone's up for Firefight anytime soon.

Starting today, for the next ten days Gears 2 will offer not double, but triple XP to celebrate their anniversary.

CCJ - good to hear from ya!  Nearly every night I have wanted to harass you about not getting Borderlands.  It seems like a game you would really like.

Looking forward to some MW2 next week with ya!

Re: GamerParents 5.0 ~ One Thread to rule them all ~
I just wanted to let everyone know that for the 1 year anniversary of Gear of War 2 they are having a 10 day event of TRIPLE xp for MP and Horde.  Starting today and going untill Monday morning of the 16th.  So it would be a great time to shoot for that level 50 if you havent gotten there yet.

From the website.

Friday, November 6, 9 AM EST, through Monday, November 16, 9 AM EST, Gears of War 2 gamers get a nine-day multiplayer extravaganza. In addition to triple experience throughout the event, players will be able to play in an all-new tactical mode across all multiplayer game types (including Horde). Players can expect two big changes in tactical mode, increased weapon damage and reduced ammo counts, along with a few subtle tweaks such as increasing down-but-not-out health so revives are still possible. Also during the event, Public Horde’s difficulty will be bumped to hardcore, and playlists can include individual game types—meaning you can play exactly what you want, when you want. Prepare for the challenge, and more than ever, remember to take cover!

Blu,  JD beat you to it.  Wink [;)]

I may get flack for this, but I think I lost my love of Gears.  It feels like a chore to play now.  Han and I were playing through the campaign on insane.  Still haven't played the DLC we paid for.  I don't know if I will ever have the desire to put it back in.

Yeah, I actually traded it in to get Borderlands.  I never touched Gears except to play Horde with friends and they play that so rarely I just realized I was clinging to the idea of Gears more than the love of the game.

I lost the love for the MP after every update seemed to make the controls feel different every time. The host advantage is terrible. Ill pop it in if invited for Horde, but that's about it for my gears playing anymore!!!!! (5 !'s just for Nien)

I never cared for MP outside of Horde myself.  The shotgun is way overpowered ( unless it is my hands) and since I party up with many noobs from this thread we would get Pzoned....

I still love me some Horde and I will try to get on that tonight ( after NHL10 of course).

Apparently my wife feels staying home playing a video game is not worth losing my job over. Silly woman.

Awesome. Glad to see someone get into Dead Space. Grats on the 1000 GS, I sadly don't have it myself.

Did some shopping with my Wife today/night and picked up Boarderlands (360) and Fallout 3 GotY (PC). I guess they keep selling out of Dragon Age on the PC, and will hopefully get some in on Sunday. They had for the 360, but I heard PC version was better if you have one that'll power it and I do. Also helps that there's no MP for it. I don't think I'll be playing yet as they're for my Bday on Thursday. Still happy though. Woot, woot!!!

Btw, what's everyones take on Dragon Age: Origins?

Honestly... why bother?

It was pretty simple to get the 1000K. Took two full play throughs and a partial one (to get the fully upgrade cheivo). Though admittedly I did cheat a bit by buying an upgraded weapon DLC which I am sure made Impossible a bit easier than one would have it playing Vanilla.

Whoops.. it was more of a post and dash.. Really didnt look to well to see if the info was up..  I still love to play gears but I have a great group of people to play it with.. I think that makes the difference.. I have been playing with these people for over 2.5 years.. They make playing the game so much more fun.  I mostly play private or horde but they do drag me out to public now and then.  Since I hit my 50 public lost most of its luster.. I am at level 72 now.. Smile [:)] Leveling up is so slow now.. I plan to be playing every day while the triple xp is on.. Hope to make it as close or at level 80 by the time triple is over.

It's wow... Just wow. Brutally hard at some points though on normal. I've re-started 4 times now to try and find a good build that I am not getting my tushy handed to me left and right.

I think I just might end up dropping it down to easy. Embarrassed [:$]

but other than that I think the game is just amazing. Obviously I can't speak for the entire story as I think I've made it at most 20% into it but I've really enjoyed what I have seen so far.

Just the banter between your party members makes it worth wild. There has been more than one occasion where I laughed out loud at something they said to each other.

Yeah, it is. I had to do a lot more playthroughs than that though because I didn't look at the achievements before I started playing. I was just enjoying the game. By the time I was done with all of the achievements, I was severely burnt out.

Impossible mode is not too hard even without the DLC weapons though. I thought it would disable the achievement or something like that, so I just used the regular one. Then, I just stuck with the assault rifle and sold all of my other ammo and weapons for AR ammo. I need to play it again, now that I am not burnt out.

Edit: I really wanted DA but between the wife wanting another fighting game and an admin over at TOG complaining about not having anyone to play with, DA got the slip.

UB - looking forward to another person's take on Borderlands.  It might help off set if I am being too much of a fanboy for the game.

Snake - We used to have Ohio State and Florida fans in this thread, but they were both perma-banned from the forums and sent to a fancy house where they where white coats backwards for fun!  Yea!

EDIT:  My social life ends officially on 11/18.  Gyromancer releases for XBLA.  What is Gyromancer you ask?  Think Puzzle Quest (my fave. XBLA game along with Castle Crashers) except made by Pop Cap (Bejeweled) and Square Enix (Final Fantasy).  Between that, Borderlands, and MW2... it's been nice knowing you all.

Hehe - I will definitely be coming back to finish up the dlc on Fallout.  There's just too much fun stuff to do.

I am very glad I didn't buy Iron Man - fun game, but just way too short.  Good rental though for all you Marvel fans.

Dragon Age....wow!  Fans of KOTOR - this is a must buy.  I sat down and suddenly 8 hours were gone.  The combat takes awhile to get used to and not as immersive, but the storyline, dialogue, and voice acting - amazing!  I'm most impressed with the conversations you overhear walking through the world along with your party.  I don't think I've finished 10% of the game and just entralled with the level of detail in the realm.  I went with a dwarf commoner fighter/tank for the first playthrough and may roll up another race tonight to check out the other lore.

I will still be playing L4D once 2 comes out.  I still have two expert campaigns to run through and still think it's one of the best MP games out there.
