Re: Cant play full versions of Arcade Games
No, none of the original XBox DLC was DRMed to my knowledge.

My only major gripe with any original Xbox DLC is that I've not yet figured a way to get the final Halo 2 map pack onto my original XBox, since I can't sign into Live on it. Infuriating at my Lanparties as the cross-compatibility is otherwise a massive help in setting those up...
I'm thinking though, that since you can copy original Xbox files off your Xbox HD and onto your 360's one where it stores data for BC games, and it instantly works - there should be no trouble doing that with DLC data too, and applying the same in reverse to transfer to your old XBox HD.

of course you'd have to be willing to buy all the after-market peripherals required to do this.

Re: Cant play full versions of Arcade Games

Add me to the list of people who are now working!!!

My original complaint to Microsoft was on January 2nd, 2008.  So it only took me about 40 days.

I checked with a test re-download about 24 hours ago and it was still not working.  I just checked one hour ago and now everything is working!  (And no, I have not received a call back from Microsoft yet.)

From the recent posts in this thread, it sounds like maybe Microsoft implemented some batch process because there are several recent posts stateing that people's XBLA games are now working offline (and on other profiles) after re-downloading.

FYI, you do NOT have to delete your games before redownloading them.  You do NOT have to recover your gamer tag or delete any thing.  Just go into Download History and choose Download Again on each full game.  The download will go really quick (assuming it is already on your hard drive).

everything works on and offline again.

i'd like to thank the people in this thread and OXM.

i didn't go to download history.i went to "played games" on the games blade and then selected "downloads" and just did download again.

Re: Cant play full versions of Arcade Games

OMG!!!

You can now add me to the list of people who are fixed!  I haven't checked ALL of my games yet, but my wife noticed she could play Puzzle Quest on 2/9/2008 without having to log in my account (or do that funky redownload or signout/signin trick).  I got all excited and thought the problem was fixed so I tried redownloading a bunch of games I bought but they still didn't work for my wifes account.  Well after reading this, I just tried redownloading a few more and now my wife can play them using her account (without me being logged in) and THEY ARE WORKING!

I still need to finish going through my entire list of arcade games and downloaded content but so far its looking good!!!

My Xbox 360 RRoD on Dec 1st, received my replacement 360 around Dec 20th, initiated my License Transfer on Jan 1st and now on Feb 10th they have fixed it (at least the games I've tested so far).

Take care,

Brian

Can I get an Amen!?!?  ALL of my arcade games are working from my wife's account so I'm pretty sure the DLC for my games is working too.  Even the free games I got like UNO and Texa's Hold'em are working for my wife's account

I thought this day would never come!

We first seriously covered the DRM issue in the March 2007 issue. A reader wrote in with it in January, I think, and we thought they were nuts. Then we realized they weren't, so we printed the apology and the correct info in the March issue's Message Center, with a big half-page apology and detailed explanation.

We asked Albert Penello about this in the context of the Elite in the podcast in March (episode 58), and then spun that interview into a print story in the June 2007 issue.

The "Six Resolutions" feature in January 2008 was the latest reminder to both Microsoft and the Xbox gaming populace that this still needs to be addressed -- and yes, it was #1 for a reason. I'm glad it's online too.

So, um, cough cough, yeah...it's "about time it got some coverage" in OXM. Wink [;)]  We've been out here fighting the good fight for months, guys -- we're on your side and always have been.

They should link these games to the gamertag and the sytem so if you have it on the system it was on you can play it on any account on that system or be able to download it again on a different system and only play it on that gamertag instead of being screwed if u get the rrod

Was there any reason for indication that you would not get them back? I don't see any real difference between upgrading and red-ringing since you get a new console in the process either way.

Yep I have been off and on since page 100 ish I think lol, but it was the first time I brought up IMO one of the more annoying problems with DRM. It is odd that M$ is not giving any response to this issue. From that my fear is they are just going to ignore the issue and let things go as is.

The 360 is going to have a rough year in 2008.  With hardware issues, DRM issues, HD-DVD pretty much losing.  Even I am reluctantly getting a PS3 later this year just for Blu-ray, because it is the only future-proof player.  If the PS3 gets some games I might actually want to play, then I will likely make a permanent switch to the PS3 when my 360 inevitably dies after the 3-year warranty.  Microsoft is in trouble.  I don't even care when they get around to transferring my licenses anymore.

If that former Microsoft insider that said that he can confirm that the hardware was rushed, can you imagine the DRM?

Exec J:  "Well, maybe we can tie it to the Gamertag as well, just in case, but they have to be online all the time"

Hello Fellow Gamers. Why is it that you think the X360 is going to have a rough year? Every console maker has issues with thier systems. Wow ..Bluray.. that is the future....NOT!!. Bluray is not any different than a DVD disc execept that it holds more data & is a lot slower. Nintendo has proven time & time again that more space doesn't make a better game. Better Developers/Programmers do. In fact in this country (USA) The X360 is still top dog. If you think that the PS3 is going to catchup with X360 US sales (in 2008), you're sadly mistaken.

Let's See 11 Million X360 & 4 Million in the US. So Sony will have to sell 7 Million PS3 in 2008 just to catch up with the X360. It ain't happening. In fact the X360 are still selling, every single day. Don't think the sales of the X360 are going to just stop all of a sudden, just because you have issues. The system will continue to make sales.

Now back @ the sub @ hand. Hopefully M$ will have most of the issues worked out this year.

Oh please.. don't get my blood boiling again! lol According to Macroshaft, I am not entitled to the right to play my games the way I paid to play them because I agreed to their terms (which didnt exist when I bought the system on launch day). Believe me, I fought with them plenty on this, as have a lot of other people. I even contacted the Better Business Bureau, with no positive outcome. Apparently, we are being punished for upgrading to a more expensive system.

Re: Cant play full versions of Arcade Games

So... now that we're starting to see some positive results, I got to thinking. Earlier in this thread, someone made a comment about why it took so long for OXM to address this issue, and not that they have - voila! Everthing's starting to get fixed. Would it be the fact that the issue was starting to pick up steam and get media coverage that got MS moving, or was it MS that had already found a solution and told OXM that they can go ahead and print the article as everything would be fine any day now. Remember, it's "Official" Xbox magazine - they don't get to wear that "Official" tag unless the almighty MS gives their blessing, and I don't think they give their blessing unless OXM is getting approvals prior to putting certain things into print. Media has advertisers, some bigger than others, those advertisers are what pay the bills - not the subscribers. When advertisers are offended, they take their advertising dollars somewhere else. I find it rather strange that this issue was heating up blogs and indi sites all over the internet, yet was unable to gain any kind of media coverage until the exact time the issue seems to be resolved.

In any event, I'm glad things are starting to look up, but I would like to see an official word from Microsoft addressing the issue and what will be done in the future to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. Until that time, I still don't plan on buying any more content online. Once bitten, twice shy.

Guess I'll have to keep re-downloading.... tried several times today but so far no luck. A quick question, are these fixes temporary....I mean if my console has to be replaced after all my DLC is restored, will I have to go through this happy stuff again on a new console?

ugh I take it back I jumped the gun, only 1 of the 2 gamer tags games I requested are working. Well at least am half way there, they would have had to fix the account with the least amount of games. I cross my fingers they fix the other one, I still have about 15 games that don't work.

Re: Cant play full versions of Arcade Games
All of your who are so excited about being able to play arcade games again, consider this...this problem has not been fixed. Merely patched.

.

Try to redownload something that is no longer available on XBLM. Say...the GOW Emergence Day theme and gamerpic. Or maybe that limited time only Halo 3 theme? See it in your download history? No? Well, then you realize that MS hasn't really fixed the problem but merely patched it over. They've done enough so that people talk about it to the point that it's again relegated the most vocal to the minority (those still realizing that the DRM is very restrictive and has not been "fixed" in any way) and they can continue to say that "only a small percentage of gamers are affected."

.

Oh well, I've pretty much given up in this fight. I do like the idea voiced a few pages back about contacting the developers who are supposed to be "protected" by these crazy DRM policies anyway.

.

Just don't give up the fight guys. Continue to fight for the rest (the "voluntary upgraders" and others who continue to be screwed) of those who haven't had as much luck with the system as you.

.

and for those of you praising OXM's part in this whole thing...HA! The first time they mentioned the DRM fiasco was Jan 07 when they ridiculed a reader (Serial Killer) who pointed out to them the whole situation. They called it "hogwash" until they investigated and then printed an apology 3 months later. They are merely a PR shill for MS. Not some "voice of truth" or whatever. Don't be fooled. You can be sure that if Dan OXM is posting here, that it is a carefully plotted PR move that would not be allowed unless it serves some ulterior motive. They may have a true fix coming someday, but you can be sure this ULTRA slow "license transfer" BS is NOT it.

Well I did some checking and it seems any of the games that I bought in 2006 are not working, anything newer is working. This is just one big mess, I bet it is because they can not see that far back on my account. Since for some dumb reason they don't keep track of records as old as '06. Great now I only feel half as ripped off, guess it's back to calling good old Max.

I mentioned earlier that my PD0 maps still were affected by DRM, but I redownloaded them without deleating them in the "Download History" portion rather than straight from the game content section. They work now. I'm not sure if it made a difference downloading from there or if there was a delay for the content, but either way I'm 100% out of all this now.

Good luck to everyone else, and I hope this becomes simpler in the future since I somewhat expect to go through this again.

That is the official Microsoft policy.  If you voluntarily upgrade, or if you replace broken 360 with a different model, then MS will generally refuse to help you.  I say "generally" because some people have managed to get a license transfer or points refund, but only after months of pestering tech support and filing complains with the BBB and/or their Attorney General.

Yep - fix this for Elite upgraders, MS!

Total money you've lost from me so far:

360 Elite:

Initial money in my 360 Elite fund: £330
Total money remaining in my 360 Elite fund: £300
Total profit to me since price drops: £30

And counting...

How many more people are shying away from a hardware upgrade for this one simple reason?
I'm still holding out on getting an Elite for less than £100 by the time they fix this. Prove me wrong Microsoft!

The only reason to upgrade is to get HDMI if you don't already have it.  If you need a larger hard drive, just buy the 120GB drive.  You won't be affected by the DRM glitch if you just swap the hard drive.  Well, there's this one guy who insists that he has a DRM problem after upgrading to the 120GB drive, but he must be the only one.

Anyway, I would like to get a new 360 so that I can get HDMI.  I don't really need it, so I'm not upset over it, but I'm definitely never going to buy a new Xbox until MS allows quick-and-easy DRM license transfers to new consoles for any reason.
