Quick question: is blu ray worth it on a 32", 720p tv? I ask because I am considering getting a PS3 and this would sort of be the deciding factor. This probably isn't the right thread to post but I figured plenty of people here would be able to answer this. Will I see a significant difference from an upconvert DVD player?

There is more to BD than just resolution. In fact in terms of PQ, resolution is the least deciding factor.
That's true. I guess I made the mistake of assuming that redsox doesn't have a super high-end audio setup because of his TV. DVD still offers 5.1 dts audio, it sounds great.
It was a pretty correct assumption. I posted my setup a few pages ago. I'm in high school right now and my setup works well enough for me. I'll probably start upgrading it when I get out of college. I was just wondering if I would regret buying all of these new DVDs/ box sets (24 season 7 ftw!) now and having to upgrade them later.

Hopefully the next xbox will use blu ray and I'll just make the transition then.

Here was the setup that I posted a little while back: http://s467.photobucket.com/albums/rr36/r3dsox3400/My%20Setup/

I'll post some of my updated pics soon.

yea, i dont use the shelves enough tho. i have the printer on the bottom and the speaker on the top shelf, the 360 out to the side so it doesnt overheat, ps3 and ps2 standing, and everything else stacked to raise the tv height. lol.guess i gotta buy more stuff then. but first things first, i need a subwoofer amplifier. probably a used one taken off of a broken woofer or something. im using a 75 watt or so for a 12 inch sub. either way it sounds a little muddy sometimes.

Google it.

I took some new pics since I put the temperature sensor/fans in the closet. I forgot to take pics during the install, so I decided just to take some after. Works pretty darn well from what I can tell so far.

Check them out: http://s178.photobucket.com/albums/w244/cookendorfernick/Condo%20Pics/

Note: My camera doesn't do well with lighting, due to the small aperture.

i isolate my 360 from everything to prevent it from overheating. and i know those scientific atlanta dvr's stay hot. you feel comfortable with your 360 sitting on it?

I have upgraded fans in my 360, which helps. And i'm thinking with the new fans in the closet, it should stay fairly cool. But yes, i've thought about it. Also, the 360 and the DVR are never on at the same time. Which also helps. I'm still monitoring the closet pretty closely at this point, to prevent any problems. But good thinking.. Smile [:)]

As you can see, I don't like keeping things stock (especially with all the cooling problems on the 360).

ah that explains it. i see you like LEDs. nice setup too, keeping the equipment out of sight.

i change my entire room setup all the time tho.

from this
to this
to this

eventualy ill come up with a cleaner looking setup ill like to keep. the tv doesnt wall mount. but when i decide to buy a big tv, ill probably wallmount it. I just got my AA, and i should start university in the fall, so ill probably be changing it around and fixing it up a few times. Im living with my parents till im done with college, so i cant really do any behind the walls work. but i know for sure when i start my career, ill start saving for a real home theatre.

Google it.

I like it a lot. I haven't really had any problems with it, except getting annoyed with having to tweak a few things here and there. Adding custom channel icons is kind of a pain, but the end result is nice (not that its hard, but it would be cooler if they had a larger list of typical channels). It is expensive, especially when you add the RF adapter and PS3 adapter. But for the fact that it works everything perfectly, and without line of sight, I love it.

hey cook, how did you work the exhaust fans for the closet? i see the pictures but can't really make out exactly where the fans are or where the air exits.

on a side note, my f'ing harmony 1000 went out two nights ago. the screen just turned white.  after multiple attempts at resets and connecting it to the software, i'm ready to just buy another.  i can get the screen to come back sometimes, but then it just flickers and goes white again Angry [:@].  i might get the same one or the 1100.  i would like to have the newer model, but understand that it does not operate z wave devices (thermostat etc.) which sucks.oh well, i'll see.

oddly enough, shortly after i posted i got a response back from the logitech email support people telling me to do exactly the same things i had already done to try to fix it.  turns out you can't get phone support past 60 days for a product now and the email responses take up to three days. wtf??? their remotes are not cheap, i have three of them, the 890, 1000 and one.  as a loyal customer you'd expect better... well, looks like i'm stuck.  just ordered the 1100 overnight delivery so i can actually use my LR set up again. can't remember where i put the actual remotes for the life of me.  and i'm still disappointed that the 1100 has no z wave support.  i was hoping to not have to use the 890 exculsively to control the thermostats.  no point in carrying the bedroom remote (890) around the house just to control the temp.  i guess i still have to get up and walk to the thermostats. poor me.

I bought 4 120mm fans, and screwed them into the back of the vents. Ran the temperature sensor into the top of the receiver (since if anything in the closet is on, the receiver must also be on). It turns on and off flawlessly and actually does a really nice job of keeping it cool..

Sucks to hear about your customer service experiences.. is the remote out of warranty?

Got my Harmony PS3 IR-to-BT converter the other day and set it up. Yeah it is somewhat expensive but it is well worth it to be able to control everything now with my Harmony One. Cool [H]

Now I am thinking about another Harmony for my bedroom to control the TV, Blu-ray player, 360, and DirecTV HD DVR.

there's no other way to go!  if you can tolerate lugging the one remote you have now around the house and still have room for more components on it, that's not a bad solution either.  i do that with the harmony one in my apartment.  of course the LR and BR setups there are much simpler than what i have at home.

yeah cook, remote is out of warranty. the 1100 should be at my house later on today.  i also ordered a replacement battery for the 1000 stright from logitech just to make sure.  $25 is not a lot to spend before throwing out a fairly expensive remote.  where did you get the picture files for the custom channels? i downloaded random ones when i programmed the 1000, but i'm wondering if logitech has their own or if i need a very specific size. any help would be appreciated.

where are your vents in the closet?  it looks like they come out on another wall of the house? i personally put the temperature sensor mounted on the ceiling in the closet. figured if that's where it would be hottest then the fans would come on more often than not to be on the safe side.

I just google-imaged them (just coined a new phrase there). In my experience. a 100x100 pixel image seems to work best. Any larger or smaller and it starts to suck. Just have to experiment.

I would contact the retailer and RMA the sensor or sensor/switch combo, however it's sold now. They usually have great customer service and should replace it for you in no time.
