There's a post in this forum with a FAQ on the chatpad and messenger kit that indicates that the MS devs don't place pc driver support high on the list of needs but that it's not ruled out. Sounds like a nice PR answer that basically means don't hold your breath. I don't feel that the false advertising or deceitful marketing claim holds water. It doesn't state anywhere that it's intended for use on any platform besides the 360 console.
That being said, thechnically there is NO reason why it wouldn't work.
Kev - check out GlovePIE for the WiiMote. I played with it for a while but I was using Vista at the time and it didn't play nice with my bluetooth adapter, especially when the 360 wireless receiver was connected. Driver conflict with the wireless stacks. I've since switched back to XP (driver issues were a killer in vista, specially since I'm a bleeding edge tech type of guy) but got too caught up in other stuff to see what kind of results I'd get from glovepie. There's another wii controller app out there too, and someone wrote an app to incorporate it so that you can play half life 2 and CS:Source with the wii mote. I just may try to get it running when the next HL episode comes out...
Anyway - I haven't had time to check the XNA documentation, I'm studying for my CCNA and it's pain in the a$s to say the least...
I'll be checking in here and in a few other places that I'm sure the mods would disapprove of...
On that note, there are folks in a few of the "usual places" that have taken the chatpad apart, and they may be motivated and smart enough to make headway on this front..
Of course MS could be real nice and just give us what we want and make our lives easier (not to mention letting us really get our money's worth)
Thanks for the GlovePIE suggestion. I'll have a looksee... Ok. Had a looksee.. Interesting, but source would be helpful. Meh.
I saw that faq. I'd prefer an 'official' reply from MS about it. I'd never posted on here before and now it's pretty clear they don't read, or if they do, don't reply on the forums. S'fine. Can't build a site like theconsoletracker.com expecting MS to do the right thing by it's customers. I'm a coder. I know the kind of things those guys are up against. I don't doubt there's seven stages of bureacracy between the hardware team and the hardware driver team.
I think these inquiries and a user-based solution are better sought out in other forums or msdn/channel 9/xna.
Thanks for the input. I'll post back here if I find anything worth while out on the intertron.
BTW. The chatpad is a really nice accessory. I don't even notice it's there when I'm playing. The backlight works great and it looks/works very well in the dark.
