What's up with the sequel?
I hope they make a sequel, and not a remake of the PS2 sequel either, with chicks on jetpacks and what not, just bigger cities, lighting, more bugs, types of bugs, and more robots, and of course.. the outlandish weapons.

No, the game was NOT on PS2. Only 360.

In actuality, the game IS the sequel. The original EDF appeared on the Super Nintendo as a Space Shooter, title Earth Defense Force.

Yes, this game WAS on the PS2 (however, don't get it confused as a remake as stated above). The first two games (Chikyuu Boueigun in Japanese) were released on the PS2 (the first was released as Monster Attack and the second as Global Defense Force in Europe - neither saw a U.S. release) and this game (Earth Defense Force 3) was released as Earth Defense Force 2017 in the U.S. and Europe regions to since there was no way to call it 3 when the first 2 installments were either not released in the region or released by a third party developer under a different name.

The game Super Earth Defense Force for the SNES is NOT related to this title at all except by the familliar title (which is actually a refrence to the police force from Godzilla).

Also, as for Co-Op request... this is a part of the D3 Simple Series in Japan so I wouldn't hold my breath for something that would probably make the game retail for a price higher then the Simple Series games (and therby remove it from the Simple Series and the whole concept that spawned the franchise and numerous others). Hoping for a sequel to hit U.S. is probably the best hope one can have right now...

I was watched EDF 2 (on PS2) on youtube.com. Anyone have notice that destrustion is better than EDF 2017?
It take few rocket launcher to destroy build. In-game EDF 2017 take only one rocket launcher to destroy it, even weakest rocket.
Also, map is better too, because it is more worldwide.

Sorry if I repeat you, but it's just to make sure I'm clear. Hopefully.

In Europe, the first one was released under the name Monster Attack, which I've not managed to get my hands on so don't know the story. The second was released as Global Defence Force, and I'm assuming it's a sequel to the first. it's important to note the story, a it taks place in 2019, with references to the "Great War" having happened 2 years ago.

So EDF 2017 is actually a prequel to GDF. It's set during the Great War, seting up things in the previous game, such as why Pale Wing was formed. I'm not sure if EDF 2017 is a remake of the first game, as it'd make sense story-wise that the first game in the series was the Great War. My point is I'm not sure if you would regard GDF as a sequel, as it follows the story on from EDF 2017.

It's pretty irrelevant anyway, as they both rock.

Re: What's up with the sequel?
Well, the game is a sequel in Japan (it's clearly marked 3 there) so I can't really say whether 2017 is something we should except as cannon as it was simply attatched to the U.S./U.K. release name. I have only played the Japanese version at my friends once so i couldn't verify if they dates are they same in the Japanese version or this occured because of translations or company issues (since D3 Japan made all the games but the UK D3 branch only released the second and third if I remember correctly, although it may have just been 3). Get what I mean? Eitherway, I couldn't say for certain but what you say makes sense.

Re: What's up with the sequel?
I'm glad you thought it made sense, I just reread my post and it's rubbish!

But it does make sense storywise that EDF 2017 is a prequel, or t least what little story there is, but it is a shame some of the best bits of GDF were taken out for the next game, on a supposedly better machine. Sure it looks better, but there aren't any of the cool bug towers, no destructible London, and no Pale Wing. Gameplay wise it does feel like a step back.
But it's still the only game I've played that really felt like an alien invasion. You could be overwhelmed at any time, but you rarely are (not on Inferno, obviously).

A sequel with co-op over Live and vehicles that are actually useable.  Other than that keep up the '50's Sci-Fi movie cheese.  Needs monsters with tentacles, exposed brains and big headed aliens.  Big Smile [:D]

Bring Back the Burger King Theme and GamerPics please, many of us want them.

Re: What's up with the sequel?
I gotta admit, EDF2017 has some flaws and is classic cheese gaming at its finest, but damn is this game a blast.  I don't know what it is about this game, but I'd KILL for a sequel!  Especially a sequel with online co-op.  Perhaps a deeper weapon system where you can actually upgrade weapons to make them more powerful, have faster reload times, etc. (like RE5).

Until then, I'm guessing Lost Planet 2 will have to do, though it'll definitely not have nearly as many enemies as EDF2017.

Yeah I know what you mean. This was one of the first games I ran into when I just got my XBOX-360. My son and me played it for hours on end. It realy would be cool if they did have a new one with upgrade graphics. Something like the graphics on Lost Plant 2 with the large enemys.

I agree with you.  It is total ham, it's almost like being immersed in a Godzilla movie of sorts.  I am not much of an achievement go getter, but I still think the achievements for this game could have been a little better.  While I loved having lots of levels, I think 150 was a bit too much, I mean it is afterall the same thing every level over and over again.  Don't get me wrong I love this game, it is a great game to throw in to take a break when you are frustrated with something else.

Re: What's up with the sequel?
man the final boss on the PS2 version was damn tough, as the weakspot only opened for a few seconds so the powerful rocket launchers were out, heck you could run quicker than the best rocket launcher (damage wise) speed. and when the boss can shoot 99% of the the spots on the map it makes it hard to avoid being shot. Think ikuraga style shooting from the boss.
