This game worth it?
I have been looking for an online future style raceing game. So do you all think this game is a good buy or not? I'm also looking at other games but I realy need an online raceing/combat game for my Xbox360. Any chance you all cane recomend this or another game for me? I loved the games on my PSP like Wipeout: Pure. Is this anything at all like that? or is it better?
Currently playing: Mass Effect, Halo3, Gears of War, Lost Planet: Colonies, Battlefield: Bad Company

I have never played wipout, but this is a fun game.  You fly above a track and have to go through gates as you go around.  You can pass over weapon pods that will supply with a given weapon type.  You keep it till you use it, or drop it.  See my other thread for the weapons faq.

There is a demo on xbox live, but from what I have heard it is not that great.   I rented the game, and am enjoying it, as it is something other than a shooter for at least one more week.  From what I have seen so far (couple of hours) it is not something that is just super easy.

This game is well worth picking up if you're into this genre of racing titles. Being able to customise your craft is a nice feature and isn't just cosmetic. I like some of the weapons but do feel that some of them could be a little bit more innovative as the majority of the secondary functions are just to fire behind you.

Ok i only own 3 games. Best racing sim (Forza 2) IMO

Best shooters (Bioshock, and GOW) there are lots more, but i lke those two games.

I remebr when i first downloaded Fatal Intertia demo, i kept playing it over and over.

I decided to buy either Fatal Intertia or Stranglehold. Once i saw that you can CUSTOMIZE the crafts. From new engines, to spoilers, wings, and lots more options. Add to that the ability to paint, and add emblems. I decided to buy Fatal.

2 things i hate about it tho, 1- you have to beat the game inorder to gain access to all the upgrades. I finished the exibition series, and still only 3 upgrades. Also when i go paint over 75 percent of colors are locked.

The other thing i hate bout it, is the fact that each xbox live race, whether ranked or player, WILL have BOTS racing. You  cant just have a 2 on 2 race with a friend, which is somthing i reallyy hope they fix.

I played WIPOUT on the PS2, this is wayy cooler, and the crafts look amazing, depending on whyat parts you install.

If you like futuristic racers, you CANT go wrong with Fatal Inertia.

P.S. At first you might not know whats goin on... but practice till you master the controls, and also add spoilers, and wing upgrades, and trust me, youll love this game.

How's the online? Any other opinions? I'm glad to see that they're mostly positive... kinda disappointed to see so few (guess it's tough releasing between Bioshock and H3...) I may get this game later when it drops in price.

Re: This game worth it?

Save your money.  I am a big fan of the futuristic racing genre, having played Wipeout and Wipeout XL on the original Playstation, and Quantum Redshift and XGRA on the Xbox.  I bought Fatal Inertia against my better judgement, as I was not impressed by the demo.  I was hoping that the full game would be good enough to justify the purchase, but it's not.

The Xbox Live multiplayer mode is worthless, since there is never anyone playing.

While the framerate is better/smoother than it was in the demo, the course designs are terrible.  In some of the underground parts of the course, the game is so dark you can't see where you're going.  One mistake in these races is enough to destroy your finish order.  And since each challenge consists of a series of four races, and there is no ability to re-run a race if you finish poorly because of a stupid mistake or a cheap AI move that causes you to miss a gate or go plunging off a bridge just before the finish, it can also destroy your overall point total for the overall series.  There is so much combat and so many course obstacles that the racing becomes kind of a crapshoot, which I do not find fun at all.

Inexcusably, there are no Xbox Live scoreboards for the regular single-player challenges to see how you did compared to others.  The only Live scoreboard is for showing your Live ranking in online ranked matches.  There were only 100 players in the list when I looked, and the lowest people on the list had only played 1 race, which should tell you that there really is almost NOBODY playing this game online.

In short, this game is not fit to be mentioned in the same sentence with the Wipeout series.  Fatal Inertia is worse than Quantum Redshift and even XGRA, which were pretty average in my opinion.  Overall the game design is poor and it lacks polish in almost every aspect of the game.  While the graphics are OK, the controls, course design, and sound are all subpar, and the racing is not fun -- just frustrating due to bad design.

I have to agree, the game is not worth a purchase. Few first races seemed ok and then it becomes just utterly frustrating. Tracks are shait and the fact that you can't retry races makes it so annoying to try and get wins on the series.

Re: This game worth it?

I will probably get this when it comes out. I was attracted by the subject matter, but disappointed by the demo. However, most of the reviews have said the demo does not give the game a fair showing, which is a shame as I think it's really hurt the game's sales.

Also, a lot of people's gripes about Fatal Inertia (not being able to see where you're going, stupid obstacles and weapons that bring you to a halt and cost you the race) were present in the old Wipeout games too, yet people are still praising those through their rose-tinted lenses.

Some stores are charging too much for it (Gamestation was asking £39.99) but Virgin had it for £20 and I almost, *almost* snapped it up.

I was a Wipeout addict but hated Fatal Inertia.  I'm looking to get a PS3 by the end of next year so if there's a new Wipeout game released for that then I'd take that over this.

Nah, not a complete crossover... I'd always keep the 360 as well Big Smile [:D]  If Sony are sensible enough to wheel out their old guard again like The Big N keep on doing then I'm happy.  Where is Crash Bandicoot on PS3?  Tekken 6 isn't ready yet IIRC, Wip3out (I want that!), Destruction Derby (Flatout:UC; again, disappointing on the whole), and the awesome other stuff they had.  Sony are forgetting what made the PS and PS2 roaring succcesses.

Back on topic... Fatal Inertia was extremely disappointing IMO.  Bland gameplay, poor graphics, it felt like somebody had mixed Motorstorm and the original Wip3out together and dumbed down the graphics and lowered the framerate.

I don't like it myself, it's like a cack rip-off of F-Zero GX/Wipeout (Pure), and is £20 of my money down the pan, but I guess for £20 it's OK, the graphics are good, and the sound average, I just don't like the control system, the blatant lack of inspiration, and that it doesn't really do anything to push the boundaries.

Re: This game worth it?

All I have to say to those who hate this game because it's so challenging, is that you guys are wimpy bastards who will only play games that are easy and/or have active online play. I frankly Like this game more than any game I've played in the WipEout series (I played all but the Original and Pulse, though pulse hasn't released in North America yet). Cause you can change your craft Cosmetically and Performance Wise, the challenge and the feel of flight (you really feel like you're floating as you bounce off and along sudden changes of the terrain). The sheer challenge will add replay value and there's just nothing more fun than shooting a cable at the wall of an Approaching corner, getting the extra boost and then letting go of the cable and hitting a nearby craft and snagging him. Sure some of the stuff can be frustrating (Velocity Races >_>) but take it easy and pay attention of how the track works.

As for visibility in areas, use the head lamps and don't fly in at high speeds blindly. I haven't played online yet but from what I have been reading is that online activity is low. Which is a shame :/

Re: This game worth it?

What's it matter if a game is a sequel or not, that does not make a game necessarily good or bad, and FYI, Phantasy Star Universe is not a sequel, it's a seperate story-arc to Phantasy Star and Phantasy Star Online.

By this theory, Halo 3 is total trash, and anyone who plays it is just a fanboy, and Final Fantasy 13 should be axed now, because after around 30 FF games, it's not even playable.

The SVR games always add something new each series, something to make it different, and although sometimes it doesn't work, they're not afraid to experiment with the game, and hope the customers like it.

If Fatal Inertia 2 ever came out, and they took customer feedback on-board, who knows, it might be much better, and I would consider it, and not base my views of it so much on FI.

Sequal = lack of inspiration and a ripoff of its own game or push the boundaries.

I don't see how there's a lack of inspiration in FI to wipeout.

Wipeout you fly in a track with no hazards except other ships and the walls

in Fatal Inertia, you have to face other ships, watch out for the terrain, and watch out for obstacles. Plus you can create your own ship- with limitations, but you can't do that at all.

this game blows any wipEout ever made so far IMO

Not in terms of gameplay and all round fun.  Sure, Wip3out games were arcadey but they were stupid amounts of fun, I loved them so much.

In fact, Wipeout HD is another game which really makes me want a PS3 (I'm a Sony fanboy at heart, I love the 360 but I only really bought it because the PS3 was overpriced and delayed in Europe and the Wii is junk).

I'm not a traitor, I'm keeping my 360 and I spend around an hour or so each day on it depending on how busy I am.

After playing FI, Wipeout is kinda boring, following a track with no obstacles, except other racers. I'm WipEout fan and like the stories with the teams, and it would be cool if there were more ways to personalize each craft in FI.

Im a wipeout fan too, but I like FI better.

Though, I am really good at FI

I quite like Wipeout Pulse myself, the online mode does add something to it, though I found the controls not finicky enough on Pure/Pulse myself, and would've liked them to be a bit more responsive.

I'm still hoping they make a new F-Zero game for Wii and/or DS sometime, it was amazing on the GC, though I wish they kept the elimination mode in from the N64 version.

Like others have said, this game appears to be more about combat (blah) and less about racing.  They had a great idea and platform and totally effed it up!  Wipeout is still king in future racing.  I'd love to see more of that!  The music, the levels, the machines, the controls.  It was so freaking awesome!!!  I'd love to see something like that for the 360.

Also, I'd just like to say this for developers out there... Why in the heck does weapons and combat have a place in the futuristic racing genre?  WTF?  Just take racing as it is now, and speed it up, use different vehicles, make crazy tracks and that would be enough!

I don't have to launch flippin missiles or lay mines.  I just want a nice futuristic racing "sim."

I never understood this.  Ugh.

By that theory, why does the USS Enterprise have Photon Torpedoes?

Why do futuristic FPS games like Quake 4 even have weapons?

They're trying to make it look extreme, deadly, powerful.

For a racing game without weapons, try F-Zero.
