There are 26 achievements in NHL 08 totaling 1000G.

 

          Single Player Achievements (16/26 Achievements, 525/1000G)

 

1. Shoot it! (50G)

To get this achievement you need to take 25+ shots on goal during one period of play on the Superstar difficulty level. This is hard to do with five minute periods so you are best off setting the period length to ten minutes. To help you control the play you can change the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor. Remember, you only need shots here, not goals, so just take simple wristers/slappers on net at soon as you get the chance.

 

2. Penalty kill special (25G)

To get this achievement you need to go on a 5 on 3 penalty kill on the Pro difficulty level. To get two penalties close together so you only have three skaters on the ice, simply skate up next to an opposing player and hit the "Y" button to slash him. Then you just need to do your best to get into the offensive zone and try to score.

 

3. Last minute of play (25G)

To get this achievement you need to score in the last minute of play in the third period on the Superstar difficulty level. This can be simple as if you have a one or two goal lead against the AI they will always pull their goalie allowing you to skate down and score and empty-netter. If you are having trouble getting a lead on the Superstar difficulty level, then you can change the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor.

 

4. AHL upset (25G)

To get this achievement you must defeat a NHL team with an AHL team on the Superstar difficulty level. Not much advise to give here except practice and change the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor. Also, you can set the "Penalties" slider to zero allowing you to be more aggressive against the AI when they are in your defensive zone.

 

5. Elite League upset (25G)

To get this achievement you must defeat a NHL team with a Swedish Elite team on the Superstar difficulty level. Not much advise to give here except practice and change the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor. Also, you can set the "Penalties" slider to zero allowing you to be more aggressive against the AI when they are in your defensive zone. Remember, if you are playing at home with the Swedish Elite team there is no trapezoid shape restricting where goalies can go behind their net.

 

6. Penalty shot hero (25G)

To get this achievement you must score on a penalty shot on the Pro difficulty level, or in an Online VS match. To get a penalty shot called in your favor, you must be on a breakaway (one-on-one with the goalie) when a skater on the opposing team trips/hooks you from behind. When the penalty shot is called you go into a shoot-out style mode; deke the goalie and score. I recommend doing this in an Online VS match because people are more likely to trip/hook you where as the AI rarely trips/hooks you, especially on Pro mode.

 

7. Stay out of the box (25G)

To get this achievement you must not take one penalty during the entire game on the Superstar difficulty setting. Do your best to not take any stupid penalties, so be careful about poke-checking and checking into the boards. Changing the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor can help. Note, you can not set the "Penalties" slider to zero and still be able to get the achievement.

 

8. He shoots, he scores (25G)

To get this achievement you must score a goal with your goalie on the Superstar difficulty setting. Like the "Last Minute of Play" achievement, get a one or two goal lead against the AI they will always pull their goalie allowing you to attempt to score and empty-netter with your goalie. If you are having trouble getting a lead on the Superstar difficulty level, then you can change the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor. To get your goalie the puck without him covering it up, skate into the offensive zone, loop back to your blue line, stop and pass it at your goalie, and most of the time he will skate out to get it allowing you to be able to shoot it. Take a slap-shot like you normally would and hope for the best. Remember, the goalie can only have possession of the puck for so long before a whistle is blown even if he is standing, so you only have a few seconds to get your shot off.

 

9. Players of the game (25G)

To get this achievement you must earn all three "stars of the game" on the Superstar difficulty setting. This is pretty simple; you should have it after playing a few games on Superstar if you win them. To help you win and control the play you can change the "Player/Skater" advantage all the way to your favor.

 

NOTE: You can get all of the above achievements by using a second controller, but where is the fun in that?

 

10. Create a Team (25G)

This is a simple achievement. All you need to do is create a team and finish a "Play Now" game with it. It does not matter what difficulty setting, it does not matter if you win or lose, all that matters is you finishing the game. Note, you can get all three "Create a" achievements at once if you place your created skater and goalie on your created team.

 

11. Create a Skater (25g)

This is another simple achievement. All you need to do is create a skater and finish a "Play Now" game with him. Whenever you create a skater he is thrown into the Free Agent list so you will need to move him onto the team on your choice.

 

12. Create a Goalie (25g)

This is yet another simple achievement. All you need to do is create a goalie and finish a "Play Now" game with him. Whenever you create a goalie he is thrown into the Free Agent list so you will need to move him onto the team on your choice.

 

13. Goalie's nightmare (50G)

To get this achievement you must have one player on your team score 70 goals during the regular season in Dynasty Mode. You can either play the games by your self, or you can sim a season with the Capitals and Ovechkin should get 70 goals. To help out in your simming try, you can place Ovechkin on every line.

 

14. On a roll (50G)

To get this achievement you must go on a five game winning streak during the playoffs in Dynasty Mode. You can either play the games by yourself or sim them with any team. Remember, if you are loosing a game you can always quit during the game and try again.

 

15. Regular season best (50G)

To get this achievement you must finish the regular season in Dynasty mode with the most points. Points come from winning games, two points for a regulation win and one point for an overtime win. Probably about 115 points will be needed to get this achievement. You can either have some fun and play through the season yourself, or you can sim a season with Anaheim and they should end up with the most points.

 

16. Tournament champs (50G)

To get this achievement you must win the EA Sports Would Tournament on any difficulty setting. You can either play through the World Tournament which is only six games, or you can select all the teams when starting the World Tournament and sim it, guaranteeing you the achievement.

 

          Online Achievements (10/26 Achievements, 475/1000G)

 

17. Fun for all (25G)

To get this achievement you must play an Online Team game and be on the winning side. Online Team play can consist of up to three human players on each team. Currently there are some problems with getting disconnected while attempting to play Online Team games. Some have said that clearing your Xbox 360 cache can improve your chances of being able to play. To do this, go to the System Blade -> Memory -> HDD -> Hit the "Y" button -> Press "X, X, LB, RB, X, X" -> Select yes.

 

18. Playing as a team (50G)

To get this achievement you must win a RANKED Online VS game while having a guest play with you on the same Xbox 360. Have your friend turn on his second controller and sign in as a guest. Before the Online VS game starts, it should say "Guests: 1" when you are selecting your team.

 

19. OT winner (25G)

To get this achievement you must win a RANKED Online VS game in overtime. When the score is tied at the end of three periods a five minute sudden death overtime period begins. Score before your opponent does to win the game.

 

20. Shootout mastery (50G)

To get this achievement you must win a RANKED Online VS game in a shootout. When the score is still tied at the end of the five minute overtime period a shootout begins. The away team shoots first and whichever team scores the most goals on three chances wins the game. If the amount of goals scored is tied after three rounds, the shootout continues until a team scores in a round when the other team does not.

 

21. Shorthanded, no problem (25G)

To get this achievement you must score a shorthanded goal during a RANKED Online VS game. You become "shorthanded" when you take a penalty giving the opposing team a 5 on 4 power play. Remember, in this game you have almost the same amount of opportunity to score when shorthanded as you do when even-strengthed so do not be afraid to go on the attack.

 

22. Seeing lots of rubber (50G)

To get this achievement you must take 40+ shots on goal during a RANKED Online VS game. Remember, you are not trying to score goals with this achievement so just shoot whenever you can.

 

23. Shutting the door (50G)

To get this achievement you must record a shutout during a RANKED Online VS game. To get this you will need to concentrate on you defense, so once you score one goal try to play as conservatively as possible.

 

24. Shootout king (25G)

This is a simple and self-explanatory achievement. You just need to play 25 RANKED Online Shootout games. This will not take long to get as most games only last a few minutes.

 

25. Online all the time (75G)

This is another simple and self-explanatory achievement. You just need to play 50 RANKED Online VS games. This will take some time to get as most games last around 20 minutes.

 

26. Beating tough competition (100G)

To get this achievement you must win a RANKED Online VS game against a person ranked in the top 50 on the leader boards. There is no way to choose who you play when playing online, so you can either wait to be matched against one or you can check the leader boards and send them a message asking to play a game. Remember, this is the hardest achievement in the game so good luck in your hunt to get it!
