MS Hong Kong - Halo 3 SCAM
I was one of the 3rd people in line at Windsor house today. I was there at noon for the H3 console and the Limited Edition.

This event was very badly run and it was a DISGRACE to HK.
-The Windsor house management kept trying to make us line up out in the rain but we flatly refused so they quit bothering us.
- Then resellers/shop people from SSP started to hold spots and take up space depriving gamers of a chance to get a console. MS staff did not bother until a lot later when it was too late and many of their friends had already joined.

The BIGGEST LETDOWN was MS KNOWINGLY sold loads of us Foreigners a MANDARIN version of the game and the checkout staff at Toys R Us assured us that it was in English.

It seems that MS was WELL AWARE that the game was not in English Language and intentionally deceived us in HK. Now they offer us no compensation for wasting our time and want us to wait a week or 10 days for the English version.

回覆: MS Hong Kong - Halo 3 SCAM

My poor girlfriend was 23rd in line at the launch yesterday and had to wait in the rain as well - for me since I have to work(not for herself). I feel terrible for her - to make things worse, I didn't have the heart to tell her how disappointed I was towards the game due to its Madarin audio.

BushPir8: I don't think we can really blame the Toys r us staff since they were just as clueless as us - just doing what they were told. BUT it is a HUGE SCAM from MS HK for not informing(not even hinting about it!) us gamers that it will be in Chinese audio(they were dishonest to you already). Plus it is simply lazy worksmanship that they did not include at least a English audio option (much like Blue Dragon, for example).

I booted the game up last night at 1:30am and felt like sobbing at the intro cut scene. I am waiting to see what my friends in Singapore will get when they get their Halo 3 today. If it is going to be in English audio - I will probably ask they to DHL a copy to me.... sigh... or even buy a Japanese version if it is in English!

For a person who does understand and can speak mandarin, I can tell you, the Mandarin dub was CRAP BIG TIME!

At least we can still play online multiple players and swear at each other (or at MS HK for what it's worth) in English... :)

Microsoft suck. They know nothing about the market situation of Hong Kong. Most of the people here are Cantonese dialect speakers (and many are English speakers as well). If Microsoft do not consider the Cantonese dialect speakers to be target customers, they should at least sell English version Halo 3.

Shame on you Microsoft.

I beleive the head of Xbox HK Chester Wong should be held solely responsible for this and should be reprimanded for this.

They seem to have no respect for all of us gamers that lined up for hours or the people that pre ordered the game and were looking forward to play it before the holiday.

@ Wombie
The Singapore version is in ENGLISH and is already being sold in Kowloon.

Look around SSp, MKK or HK Island.

MS authorised dealers are selling them under the table.

Heh... Fludbird mate, retailers are exchanging copies of Mandarin HALO 3 for English Soundtracked copies for Saturday.

I just wished there was a way to send a nice big f**k you to the people of Microsoft HK.

If this happend in any other country the head of MS would be taken to task and possibly fired. This is a shame to us HK gers. They have no respect for customers at all. The person responsible for this mess is

CHESTER WONG

He is the guy running Xbox in HK.

Me too really disappoint for such a Damn poor mandarin speech insult our GREAT Halo 3 game. Mr. Wong pissed us off & what a wonderful trick??? I queued at 26th with my friend for H3 console + Ltd Ed Halo 3 game, spent over 8 Hrs paid over 3600 bucks for a GREAT game with CRAP speech. Although I'm a Chinese but really I prefer to enjoy the HALO 3 with original English speech which only can express the REALLY spirit of this Game-buster! At least MS HK should release preferable Eng/Chi Dubbed Game like movie DVDs. Now Mr. Wong is forcing every HALO Lovers to buy import Water-GOODS or play bootlegs. What the ***???

Not only arrange replacement for Eng Dubbed version HALO 3 game, as well Dear Mr. Wong should do something to compensate our lost in both time & spirital injury.

As a representive of MS HK, Mr. Wong should alert the ToysRus Promotion night there were so many Foreign gamers queue honestly for the HALO 3, I don't believe he won't have any sense of risking on offering a ENFORCING mandarin tutorial HALO 3 game for a bunch of English gamers.

Oh man, how many more times U MS HK wanna disappoint us HK XB360 gamers????

I spoke with Chester Wong and he confirmed that MS HK will be replacing the game with an English version this Saturday. I asked him to make an official post on this forum and he has agreed to do so on Thursday.

They need to compensate all of us for the inconvenience caused especially many of the hardcore fans that stood around for hours at Windsor House.

Do you have Chesters number? I bought the game on the 25th from a small shop. I did not see any indications it was Mandarin only audio on the box.  The language states English/Chinese.  Why would they take the English audio out of an English game especially a game people have been waiting for a long time over?  It's like removing English audio from a Hollywood film and putting mandarin only.  Anyway you look at it, it's STUPID. I think it might actually say in CHINESE that it's Chinese audio only. How the effing *** are non Chinese people suppose to be able to read that!.  I called customer support and they said that only people who lined up at midnight and preordered are entitled to an exchange.  If it was any other country, an exchange would not be so difficult. I will not be happy if I have to buy another copy just to get the game in English.  I will see what happens on Saturday if I can get an exchange. The decision to sell a mandarin version in Hong Kong is ridiculous. I’ve heard even native Hong Kong people are not happy about it from the shop I complained at.  For MS's sake, I sure hope they allow for an exchange to an English version.

I have asked Chester to make an "Official" post on the forum. They need to exchange every single Mandarin version of the game or we can take this up further with the media, Bungee and the Consumer Council.

I still believe this was intentionally done as I have the Asian English version and it is clearly marked as "English Version" in the bottom right corner. My wife is a Canto and Mandarin speaking HKese and she could not play this game. I bought one and shipped it to the guy on top of the China leaderboard (who is mainland Chinese and he found it unplayable). This is a disgrace.

Hi,

I found out about the Mandarin version problem when I visited Neogaf forums. There was a person who posted there that he bought the game from Toys R Us in Hong Kong. When they tested the game at home they found out it was in Mandarin. So he made a thread about it on Neogaf to warn people.

I'm part of a community of gamers who buys games online because we don't have official support from Microsoft for our country. Some of us bought the game from play-asia.com. Unfortunately, when the news broke that the version of the game was in Mandarin it was too late. Play-asia is based in Hong Kong, so they inadvertently sent copies of the game that were in Mandarin to players who don't understand the language at all. Play-asia is working with us to get refunds/replacements but it will help if an official announcement is posted about this issue on the front page of XBOX.COM for Hong Kong. That way, when we coordinate with Play-Asia they will know that they can deal with Microsoft in order to resolve the issue for their international customers. We can send play-asia a link to the announcement of the exchange program, and play-asia.com will know that it is official  if it is on the front page and not the forums.

Thanks again for coordinating with Microsoft about the issue, we hope that it will be resolved soon.

Just talk to Customer Services and tell them how disappointed I am after buying Halo3. I know HK is part of China but it is also an international metropolis. I doubt whether those marketing guys in  MS are idiot or not. If the marketing skill is so weak that they don't even aware the culture of their market. I am affaid XBOX360 will fall behind their competitor like PS3 and WII.

To remedy the situation, a replacement is almost unavoidable and also a certain level of reputation damage is anticipated.

Re: MS Hong Kong - Halo 3 SCAM
I just had a talk with the customer service and asked the reason why only people who bought Halo 3 from pre-order or from the midnight events are allowed to exchange their copy.  Their response was that these people were mistakenly informed that the version would be in English.  I asked them what happens about the people who may have saw the advertisement that falsely states that Halo 3 is in English but do not attend the midnight event but decide to buy it on the launch date (25th).  They have been also been misled into buying a game which they thought was in English.  Why are people who were misled before the 25th entitled to an exchange and not people on or after? They could not answer this question.  They tried to say that it was clearly stated on the box that it’s Chinese audio only.  That argument does not hold water for anyone that can not read Chinese.  They have no case.  Their reasoning is flawed.  I filed a complaint.  Instead of asking about an exchange, file a complaint while your at it.

I also brought this via pre-order with play-asia.com and by the time I found out that it was in Mandarin with English subtitles, the product had shipped already. If I had known that at the time I most certainly would not have purchased it.

Whilst an exchange /refund program would be good I would actually prefer to have an English language patch via Live, frankly I'd rather not go through the hassle and expense of shipping (and being without the game for a week) .
