Re: Post your AV Setups - Part 2
Crisp,

Yeah just added the dual 10's up front for mid bass and getting 4 subs to play nice together is no easy task with variable crossover points and rolloff considerations, looks like it's time for a full on multi sub p-eq. I currently have the 15" doing the work below 40Hz, the rear 10" is doing 40 to 60Hz and the dual 10's up front are 60 to 120Hz but of course they all rolloff at different points and getting that seemless blend is tricky (it's intense though). The rear 10" will probably be removed from the system soon since the 15" can handle all the LFE work on it's own and the blend will be easier without it.
We have a use for each display (different sources on each one) and it's great for lan gaming, plus if my wife and son want to watch something different we each have our own screen Wink [;)].
Hehe, I guess it was showing my age a bit but that's ok, I may be older than most here but I am still young at heart Smile [:)].

Now let's see some A/V systems !!! Beer [B]

Thanks,
DGP

Crappyguy

I haven't been in this forum in forever but I just finished putting my home theater together (actually a true home theater is never really finished, but you get my idea) and I figured I would share my system with you folks.

My THX CinemaScope System

*I'm running a M&K 5.1 S-150 THX system with two MFW-15s by AV-123 (check them out probably the best deal in subs you are likely to find anywhere if you can deal with the long delivery).
*I have a Onkyo TX-NR1000.........a beast of a receiver pushing the audio.
*I have a Panasonic PT-AE3000U 1080p Projector with a 128" 2.35:1 (Cinemascope) ratio Carada screen
*Blu-ray player and a DirecTV DVR (they don't just give those away)

I will try to take some more pictures.  Perhaps even some that are actually worth a crap........these were just some quick ones I snapped earlier.

Heh... I'm still waiting for my rosewood MFW to show up.  Got it in the Labor Day sale last year.  They've had amp issues (that are now hopefully sorted out) and are expected to ship in a couple weeks.  Amazing bang for the buck, but you really have to be patient...

That must be a pretty insane system. I can't imagine havine 5 subs, but it must sound effortless. A few years ago I was able to speak to Tom Nousaine (Sound and Vision Magazine I think) and he had built an 8 - 15" TC driver infinite baffle subwoofer and used his basement as the enclosure. All 8 subs sat directly below his theater on the floor above and exhausted through two large vents in the corners of his home theater. Most insane crap I have ever seen.

Wow! I feel for you. That is a crazy long wait. Your system looks great BTW! I love those loudspeakers......are those the Rockets (not very familiar with AV-123's speakers)? I think you will be quite pleased with your subwoofer when it finally arrives (PM me what you think when you get it). Just a few more weeks!.........hang in there broski.

Your setup does not in any way match your gamertag. Great lighting. Nice paint colors on the wall. Makes me want to come over your house. Sit down. Have a nice cup of joe. We can talk Home theatre while our wives talk about shoes. What do you say?

Yeah it's insane but we also have another local guy that has done almost exactly what you describe Mr. Nousaine had done only he is using 8 x 18" subs with about 5000 watts of Crown power (right beneath the HT floor). He is an older guy that has played pipe organs most of his life and wanted to be able to recreate those lowest bass notes (he has a piano in the same room and listens to organ music). This system has enough bass to crack the foundation and even at mild levels you don't hear it as much as you feel it, it's an experience Wink [;)].

Nice set-up. I've always liked those M&Ks.
I couldn't find a place near me that sold them (let alone hear them) so I ended up going with B&Ws. I always wondered what could've been...Broken Heart [U] Plus, my pre/pro and amp are THX-certified, so I would've had a THX sound system.

It's not could of or should of.
It's could've or should've.

This thread is now so crazy it's on a part 2, LOL.

I wish I had the money to have a nice setup, but I cannot cause baby things and home things are first.  So let's so a gadget competition, and let me win :) Lol.

hey Jesus, it's all good. you just have to put priorities on things. mine are in this order: cars, baby, wife, HT equpiment and home.  lol!  however, if you do some nice stuff for the wife, she'll be under the impression that she comes first.  then you can buy all the needless crap you want and love without getting grief...

Hey guys I just added some photos that make my home theater look more flattering than the previous ones.  The primary design goal was to display 2.35:1 ratio films as they were intended while designing a room that actually looked sharp when the projector isn't in use.

Lights on
Lights dimmed

hey crappyguy, those new pics do make the place look better. correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like the ceiling paint is gloss or semi gloss. maybe it's just the picture, but if it is gloss, you probably want to repaint it flat. the reflections from the highhats and chandelier can be distracting, and the light from the projector and screen can also be reflected.
