Re: who is your main character?

Lau, if I'm playing to win. I'm a better than average player with most of the characters (some better than others), but I can't remember losing with Lau against anyone. Getting good with him just requires aggressive fluidity - and mixing in all his moves in a timely fashion. He's tremendous when the sidestep is used with patience and skill. The only players that ever gave me trouble were those skilled with Jacky Bryant. I never had a version of VF I could play online, and I'm looking forward to playing strong players. I was the SFII Champ until it went online. I'm still better than most, but certainly not the best. I'm looking forward to VF5's release.

Probably Goh. I'm a grapple heavy fighter, and I think Goh's grapple game is pretty good in comparison to other VF characters.

I've been a lion fan since vf2 and still am. so that is my main character. I also like playing as akira even though his moves are hard to master

I have never seen Akira played well. I use him, but my skill with him is lackluster.

I play Jeffrey if I want to win.  I'm rusty so I'll need to practice or just jump in the fire and go to the school of hard knocks.

I tried him, but he's tough to defend quicker characters with.

let's have some lau mirror matches (a.k.a. lau-off's)... he's my main, but i have been training with jeffry... i use other chars as well (akira, brad, lion a little bit, and aoi)... i need to work on my aoi though, as she has been changed drastically, and i haven't played final tuned :(

jacky is toned down a bit this time around... he can still get some free 6+p,k's off of blocked moves, but he's pretty predictable this time around... i've seen more jacky players use more throws this time around, so im assuming he's more throw/situational and alittle less poke... he still has some crazy combos though, but i feel sarah and jeffry players will have a better chance against him now...

el blaze is pretty good... not too heavy on combos, but more on hit confirm tactics that allow for throw setups... there might even be a keep-away strat with him based off of his rocket discharge move, given the fact that alot of his moves, especially 4+p,k, allow him to rocket discharge...

Probably Goh. I like the bigger, slower characters for soem reason. In SC I play Astaroth and in DOA Bass. I tried Goh in VF4 and couldn't quite gethim competitive, but never really had much time to put in. I will have to in order to play online. Akira or Lei would be my other, though I've never played lei he looks cool.

Add me. My handle is GAV60.

I hope they didn't tone Lau down. I feel he was the best player in every installment of VF.

lau hasn't really been toned down much. if anything his pokes have been beefed up in exchange for some combos... the 4,6+p; d+p; d,df+p,p+k combo doesn't work anymore, so most ppl will rely on p, 4+p,p for a good finisher... he's definitely not as linear as he appears to be in vf4evo... his 6,2+k sweep is now a simple 2+k+g, which makes setups with that move way easier... im gonna hop on training mode for a bit when i get it to see what combos/setups still work that aren't posted on vfdc...

talk to berserkgutsumh for some tips on goh... i used to battle him alot on vf4evo, and he played vf5 for a bit as well, so he can help you out with some actual good setups and useful moves/throws...

13 characters were in VF4.  then VF4 EVO was released for 20 buck with two new characters.  VF4 final tuned didnt have any new characters so in all VF4 ended up having 15 characters not including dural.

in japan, there are plenty of good akira players to watch... ohsu akira is the first name that comes to mind, along with homestay akira... out here in america, i can only think of LA akira... i remember ryan hart in the uk used to play with akira, but i dont even know if he still plays... there are plenty of match vids on youtube to look at to see how he should be played... akira is not my main, but i watch some of those cats play and i try to develop my style so hopefully i can use him as a backup character...

if you really want to be good with Akira in my opinion you have use an arcade stick.  ive used Akira some of my friends also use him and are much better than me.  some of Akira's moves are alot harder to pull off with a control pad.  if you plan on getting good with Akira i recommend getting use to the arcade stick if your not already.

in vf5, akira's moves got really easy to do... i used to practice his just frame knee for hours just to use as a wall combo ender, and its really easy to use... i know a guy in ohio that can use akira with a pad and crush anybody. i hope he gets vf5 for the 360 so i can see his skill level... anyway, most of akira's moves can be buffered pretty well on both arcade stick and pad. i know his 3+k+g; 6+p; 466+p+k can also be done without the 466 portion... i really believe akira has been made alot easier to learn but still difficult to master, especially for tekken players, as he feels more like that now than ever with the extra combos he gained... this is just my opinion though...

Re: who is your main character?
Akira is one of the more difficult characters to master and from my personal experience the best Akira players ive ever played used the arcade stick.  i also noticed that people that use the control pad dont use Akira the same way that people do with the arcades stick.  all the Akira players that i know say if you want to take full advantage of his move list that you should use the arcade stick.

for example its alot harder to pull of the Teshitsu Dantai on a control pad since you have to press k+g and then you have to release the g button after 1 frame.  believe me when i say its alot easier to do on a arcade stick.
