Ok, this might get complicated, but bear with me!
I got Assassins Creed today so I was playing that when all of a sudden the graphics went all funny coloured, and then went completely, my TV said there was no input. I still had audio, just no video.
Luckily I live with my brother and he has a 360, so I put my console on his TV and got the same thing. I tried it without a hard disk in and still no video output on either TV. But here's where it gets really complicated...
I put his console on my TV and it worked fine. Then I put my hard disk on his console, put it on my TV and there was no video output. But I've also put my hard disk into his console but on his TV, and it worked fine.
So to sum up..
My console + my HDD + my TV = no video.
My console + my HDD + brother's TV = no video.
Brother's console + my HDD + brother's TV = fine
brother's console + my HDD + my TV = no video
Brother's console + brother's HDD + my TV = fine
I'm completely baffled. I've phoned Microsoft and they're getting me a replacement for free (luckily I'm about 1 week inside my warranty) but what I don't want is for the replacement to come and have the same problems when it's hooked up to my HDD.
Anyone have any thoughts/ideas?
I am out of warrantee and just got the same problem. Playing PGR4 the blues were replaced with yellows. OFF/ON and it would work OK for hours. Now I turn it on and no video on the HD outputs.
If I switch to Composite video out, it works just fine, although one startup still yielded the yellow colorations.
Is this a "send it in for repair" thing, I suppose. I do not get any red lights, so I don't think the extended warrantee will help me.
It has now progressed to the Composite video as well...no video at all. Perfect digital audio and the game is starting up, just no video.
I may buy a base unit, rather than blow $99 on the repair, plus shipping.
yea add anoher box to the list.....
last week he color in halo changed from green to blue and back. this happened a few times and now my box just has tthe squiggle line in it. i just bought another cable off ebay so i hope this is the fix. if not then im gonna call xbox and send it for repairs. (i hate to do this) is this even covered under the warrenty??
if so may people are having this problem this month could it be an update error???
think I got the same problem. My boy was playing UNO this morning then playing PGR4 demo, we had to turn the system off to get out of the demo, turned it back on nothing but black screen with purple lines all over the screen. sound is great but no picture. just put in a game to see if that would work, no go same screen all black with small purple lines all over. damn it this sucks, a friend of mine just lost his video card about two weeks ago still hasnt gotten his system back yet and cost him I think $100.
this is just crazyness.
Mine took months to get to this point. It started losing the color palette in 1080i, so I went down to 720p, and the problem went away for almost 2 months.
Got to the point where it just would not display at all.
A couple days later, it's now working sporadically again. Mine is one of the "toaster" units, which blows air out the back hotter than my car's exhaust. (Not really, but you can appreciate the metaphor. Could almost make toast on it.)
Does your screen go like this?:
This is from COD4 on my 3 month old elite!

Thought it was the AV cable at first but I tried it on different cables and it did the same thing! Now it starts up and all I hear is the sound and no video at all just white squiggly lines on my screen... I bought a 3 year warranty from target and talked to them last night hopefully they have good service there..
