New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu

I posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves its own:

Tonight, I put my CoC game into the XBOX 360, and it notified me of another update available for the game.  After downloading the update, I found to my pleasant surprise that the game-startup cut-scene in the asylum plays perfectly.  Additionally, my save game plays the ending cut-scenes.  Both of these would show black screens with sound until now.

Has anyone been able to verify if the other bugs have been fixed as well.  I have high hopes.

Re: New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu
I recieved the game yesterday and popped it in for a few minutes to find sound issues and lighting issues. I played it for an hour today and found it loads faster and the sound issues have been fixed, except the wind at times. The only problem I have with the game is the lighting; black looks gray and it is not as colorful as it is on the original XBOX. It has a Silent Hill feel to it. I heard it decribes the book exactly; who reads books anymore, right?

Re: New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu
I'm only about a 3/4's of the way through the game but so far the story is mainly derived from 'A Shadow over Innsmouth' with a few references to 'A Shadow out of Time' at the start (relating to character backstory).  Judging from the demo cutscenes the monster attacking the ship bit would be inspired from a scene towards the end of 'The Call of Cthulhu'.

I've experiments to run, there is research to be done, on the people who are still alive.

Re: New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu

I was a big fan of Lovecraft, I read all of his books and short stories at one point or another. They all are some take or another on his 'Cthulhu Mythos', basically a mythos of supernatural gods and creatures. The game is not about a specific story (though as the previous poster stated, it has elements of several ), its an original story set in the Lovecraft universe and I think is a very good adaption of the mythos and its ideas. Call of Cthulhu is just one of Lovecraft's many stories.

Incidentally, Lovecraft himself never used the term 'Cthulhu mythos', nor was Cthulhu the 'main' god out of all the gods in his stories. It was some time later August Derleth coined the term, and subsequently Call of Cthulhu became the most famous of Lovecraft's stories.

Re: New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu
It's a creepy, freaky, rather difficult survival horror game. The shooting mechanics are a bit awkward, and the puzzles seem very complicated at times, but the game ends up being supremely satisfying. Visually, it's the darkest game I've ever played, so you'll have to turn up the brightness on your TV.  If you don't do this, you might struggle to see anything at all in certain parts.

Re: New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu
I purchased the game when it first came out.  Three solid weeks of playing it and I beat it on Boy Scout.  I'm replaying it again when my lady.  Great game!  Creepy, atomspheric, and Lovecraft to a tee.  Well worth it if you're a fan.  I have a friend that can't even play it or watch it for too long cuz' it actually makes him ill.  I was saddened to see that on the IGN boards most of the Call of Cthulhu games that were coming out are in are stuck in a loop of time in a shipping warehouse on R'lyeh (i.e. cancelled).

It's definetly freaky!  for some reason, I keep hitting pause to turn on the lights.  I don't usually get scared with games like this...but it's pretty creepy.

Maybe i'll find this later, but how do you play the game past the first puzzle? I'm not asking for hints, I know how to do it. It's just the item goes into my inventory,w hich is tied to the "White" button on a normal xbox controller, which I currently lack. And the Xbox 360 controllers, do not have a white/black button.

I'd say so.  In fact, the only game I've ever played that's more creepy than CoC (hmm, an interesting abbreviation) was the first Silent Hill on PS1.

Re: New backwards-compatibility update for Call of Cthulhu
I just got my copy today, and none of the sound works. It's dead silent, except for a sound effect here or there every couple of minutes. How can I fix this problem. Is it possible to clear the cache, and somehow download the update for this, as when I put it in the tray, it didnt ask me to update.

Found it on Ebay for a nice price and start playing it.  Cool game, certainly not dissappointed...only thing is I can't use my HDTV VGA cable, have to use the default Xbox360 vga cable, but that's ok...can't expect the video quality of a xbox360 game :)  And sounds just works fine when game's started...

As far as I know there is no word of a second CoC game.  Headfirst has gone kupat.  So, it's safe to say, that the game is probably just a rumor.Sad [:(]
