I am quite concerned about my fifa 08 game as it says unreadable disk every time i try and play a match. My xbox has scratched 2 circles into my disk and makes a weird clicking noise just before you get the error message. I Purchased this item From Argos on the day after release date. I have heard rumours about this happening on other games and that the reason why its doing it is because its the xbox itself? its EAs fault? its the Hard Drive? I've Even heard its the Power Brick? I just want to know wether anybody else has had this problem or wether it is just me and what to do next???

I had the same problem, it started clicking when I turned my xbox on, I took the game out and found a crack going from the inner circle of the CD to about 3/4 throgh the disc. I had to buy another Fifa, it also done this about a year ago to my Fight Night (both EA games). I have also had the circled stratch appear on both Forza and Oblivion.

I asked Microsoft and employees in the game shop and the both said to avoid the circle stratch you have to lay the xbox horizontally, apparently Microsoft ran some tests and playing the computer vertically caused the circled scratches (basically ending the possibility of getting a new xbox on waranty), they also said avoid big vibrations in an around the console as this also could scratch the game as the CD's are spinning so fast.

As for the crack and clicking problem the guy in the game shop said he had the exact same problem also with EA games and it is a manufactuing fault with there games, he suggested emailing them and getting a refund, he also said to avoid the clicking with games, you must take the games out of the console when you turn it off, because if you leave the game in there and boot it up the computer isn't set yet and could stratch your games, which is what happened with Fifa. Same thing here crack in the fifa 08 disk rang game, numpty on other end of line said it was my fault putting it in /out of case wrong told him i was a 34 year old married male not a troublesome teen trying to pull a fast one.(look at design of case raised outer edge means you have to use release button) also my fn3 cracked from center. solution went to game and the guy who said (on the phone)nobody in the shop would exchange my game, So I said I would come down and have it out with him. i came down and he had a change of heart when i showed up later that day (brave on the phone gutless in person).

It is quite possible that it is caused by a bad manufacturing process.  However this is quite common to happen with a 360 that has been used for quite a while.  The problem that is occuring can happen vertical and horizontal.  No changing can prevent the drive from wobbling.  You see 360's drives lack foam pads around the side to stop the disc from wobbling after continuing vibration the screws can come loose.  When this happens the laser can raise itself so when the disc wobbles it catches the edge of the laser and causes the circular scratch you are seeing.

This is not a problem you can directly solve without opening the 360.  However if it is just the game it should cause circular scratches but if the data is pressed in an area that is too close to the centre the laser will raise itself to reach that area.

I think so! I got this on both fifa2007 and fifa2008.
I rarely got this problem with other games...

After I Sent EA an E-mail of complaint they replied and said that i have a major problem with my xbox and its not the way they make their discs??? Not all of us have the same problem with our xbox's, surely? Its clearly the way they make their discs. They expect us to buy new games, i think it's ridiculous to be honest...

This Happend To My Rainbow 6 So I Rang Microsoft Up And They Just Said It Was My Fault For Not Being Carful Enough Takin The Disk Out

This happens to me also. Its only happend with fifa07 and 08 all other games are fine. The discs are in perfect condition.

I dont have a clue what to do from here.. I am not prepared to pay another £40. Very cheesed off..

It's your 360 I'm afraid. Mine had the exact same issue, it finally died with the Ring of Lights symptom.
I'm sending it in for warranty repair. In the meantime, I got a 360 Elite. I've been using the same game disc without a single problem for about a month now. Besides, if you have a 1080p compatible set the HDMI connection on the Eite rocks. Not a cheap solution...but it works. Good luck.

I got the same thing, it only happens when i load up the game for the first game, if the xbox sounds like its labouring and i hear the clicking i am almost certain i am about to get the error message, if i load the game and no noise i am in the clear...I have it down to a science now.

this happened to my RB2 the first day i got it its the laser that scratched it i moved mine about an inch and it happened

That happened to me once or twice in the last few years.  I changed my settings so that the 360 went straight to the dashboard when there is a disc in the tray.  This way the 360 has a chance to say get "warmed up".  I also go to the dashboard before I switch off the box.  Just a good habit I got into. 

It's your 360 mate. Send it for repairs. Maybe it happens more often with Fifa 08 as it loads more off the disk rather than using the cache memory in ur HDD. Either way, ring customer support or go to support on here; register your console... and send it off for repairs... before it destroys any of your other discs.

Yep, similar thing happened to me. I heard a weird clicking noise while playing Smackdown vs RAW 2009 and eventually the game froze during a loading screen. I took the game out only to find a crack in the disk going from the center tp like 3/4 of the way in the disk. I contacted XBOX about it and they just said to send the console in for repairs
