First of all ......Love the new speakers!!!!!!! ...so what prompted the change to new speakers?
The Martin Logans were awesome speakers....no doubt about that. There are many reasons I changed to a new speaker system:
1) The MLs were getting long in the tooth (had the rears since 2000 and the mains/sub since 2002). I like to be able to get decent resale on my system components....so I thought it was time to let them go while they still had decent value (pulled in over $6000 for my old system on eBay/Craigslist).
2) When I originally purchased ML, my main focus was 2 channel music listening. ML's are outstanding for that, but are also usable in an HT setting (with some compromise). They were the best compromise given my priorities at the time. I don't have as much time for critical listening anymore and my enjoyment has leaned more towards movie viewing than stereo music listening. Therefore, I went with a speaker that has more oomph and dynamics.
3) I've always enjoyed the sound of Paradigms and have always wanted a Paradigm system. I envisioned getting the Signature series, but after auditioning both the Siggies and the Studios I realized I would be perfectly happy with the Studios and saved the coin for other things.....my two new JL Audio Fathom 13s for example.
What I feel I'm missing since changing speakers - The mid-range and female voices don't quite have the same magic with the Studio's as they did with the ML's.
What I enjoy more with the Studio's over the ML's - Greater dynamics and a much more powerful sound; much easier to control room interaction since they are directs instead of dipoles, bass is MUCH improved both in volume and sound quality/consistency throughout the frequency range, high frequencies much improved, much larger sweetspot = better enjoyment for others in the room.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the Studio/JL Audio system. The overall cost of both systems is about the same....but it is a huge upgrade for HT use and only a slight downgrade for 2 channel music listening.
