Hey guys I just added some photos that make my home theater look more flattering than the previous ones.  The primary design goal was to display 2.35:1 ratio films as they were intended while designing a room that actually looked sharp when the projector isn't in use.

hey crappyguy, those new pics do make the place look better. correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like the ceiling paint is gloss or semi gloss. maybe it's just the picture, but if it is gloss, you probably want to repaint it flat. the reflections from the highhats and chandelier can be distracting, and the light from the projector and screen can also be reflected.

Believe it or not it is actually egg shell.  Now with that said I have still found that the reflection from the ceiling directly above the screen has been rather annoying indeed.  Ideally I would paint the ceiling a chocolate brown like the walls however this would make the room feel a good deal smaller.  Maybe I should just put velvet all over the ceiling!

Something like this would control light AND sound reflections.

Ya it would, but it's not very pretty is it.  I find the hardest part of a home theater is creating one that looks and sounds great and yet doesn't totally offend the sensibilities of your significant other.  It is often referred to as the W.A.F. (Wife Acceptance Factor).

I think for the time being I will just have to live with the reflection.  Although some proper acoustic treatment would be nice :-)

Oh, well. That WAS my better looking option compared to something like this. Believe me, I am WELL informed about WAF optimization.

Thanks Geo. They galleries are supposed to represent setups described on this thread. Not too many people are interested in photos of bookshelves full of games, so I try to remove photos that don't at least have one piece of A/V equipment in them.

BTW, those rockets look pretty cool. If I didn't already like my speakers, I'd probably be auditioning them.

I would guess two reasons.  One they weren't as good as described and the legendary home theater upgrade bug.  It affects a lot of people.

The Martin Logans were awesome speakers....no doubt about that.  There are many reasons I changed to a new speaker system:

1) The MLs were getting long in the tooth (had the rears since 2000 and the mains/sub since 2002).  I like to be able to get decent resale on my system components....so I thought it was time to let them go while they still had decent value (pulled in over $6000 for my old system on eBay/Craigslist).

2)  When I originally purchased ML, my main focus was 2 channel music listening.  ML's are outstanding for that, but are also usable in an HT setting (with some compromise).  They were the best compromise given my priorities at the time.  I don't have as much time for critical listening anymore and my enjoyment has leaned more towards movie viewing than stereo music listening.  Therefore, I went with a speaker that has more oomph and dynamics.

3)  I've always enjoyed the sound of Paradigms and have always wanted a Paradigm system.  I envisioned getting the Signature series, but after auditioning both the Siggies and the Studios I realized I would be perfectly happy with the Studios and saved the coin for other things.....my two new JL Audio Fathom 13s for example.

What I feel I'm missing since changing speakers - The mid-range and female voices don't quite have the same magic with the Studio's as they did with the ML's.

What I enjoy more with the Studio's over the ML's - Greater dynamics and a much more powerful sound; much easier to control room interaction since they are directs instead of dipoles, bass is MUCH improved both in volume and sound quality/consistency throughout the frequency range, high frequencies much improved, much larger sweetspot = better enjoyment for others in the room.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the Studio/JL Audio system.  The overall cost of both systems is about the same....but it is a huge upgrade for HT use and only a slight downgrade for 2 channel music listening.

Didn't really sound like anybody was poking fun to me but Phantom has taken a ton of heat from many of us on here so he knows there's no reason to get back into that particular discussion again Wink [;)]. His new system is far more HT capable than his old and he admits to it, nothing wrong there as HT is a never ending endeavor for some of us (there's always something that can be upgraded/changed for the better or simply for a different desired end result). Besides that most of this stuff is personal opinion anyway, some like the sound of ML's while others (like myself) do not. There is no right or wrong, although in my opinion Phantom is more on the right track now than ever before Big Smile [:D].

When it comes to sound, that couldn't be more true. Some of my friends swear by Mackie active monitors up and down, while they are undoubtedly good I have always preferred the slightly more laid back and less fatiguing Events. Both sound great, they get the job done, are quite flat and accurate but offer different sytles/aesthetics.

I absolutely LOVE the Martin Logans!  I still remember the first time I listened to the Prodigys (sp?).  I remember thinking I had to have them, but at around $10K I couldn't quite swing it.  Frankly I think paired with the right sub Martin Logans are awesome HT loudspeakers, but to each is own.  Ultimately I ended up with M&K's THX system (a loudspeaker that many consider more of a HT system), but I still would LOVE to get my hands on the new Summit (or some discontinued Prodigys).

Oh and BTW I WAS poking fun.........................but it was all in good fun of course.

That makes a lot of sense Phantom, thanks for the detail in your reasoning.... Priorities aside, was it harder to part with the ML's or more exciting to get the Paradigms/JL's??? Maybe it was more like trading in the Rolls for a Bentley!!!... :) Awesome system in any case!!!!!

The ML's served me well for many enjoyable years, but I was ready for something different.  It wasn't hard at all to part with them and I was quite pleased with the retained value.  I was definitely more excited to to hear the new system in my room....especially the subs.

I will take a picture of it all after I ditch the old and falling apart PC desk and replace it with a Bedroom hight TV stand/two more Magnolia speeker stands of the same type for the front speekers.........
