Just venting - I hate Space Giraffe
I didn't understand it, and I hated it.
So I played the demo 3 or 4 times, until I "got it," and then I liked it...actually, I loved it!
I puchased the full game, and played it another 4 or 5 times...
...until I hated it again.

There's nothing wrong with the game, mind you, it's the background that sucks.  I just can't
figure out what's going on, and almost never know what kills me (bullets or flowers, presumably, but I
just can't see them coming).  And how do you keep a flower alive if you can't see it?!

Is there a way to turn off or significantly subdue the background so I can enjoy the game play elements
without the visual diarrhea?  An "angry noob" setting, perhaps?

Yes, I'm mad at the game because I'm no good at the game, and frustrated at repeatedly
asking "What?!  How'd I die?!  WTF?!"

And, no, I won't grow up!   Wink [;)]

Re: Just venting - I hate Space Giraffe
you die because your running all over the shop trying to shoot everything without looking
the flowers are bright green in the early levels and level 9 is a good one for the achievement
(if you *** up you can always try again)

dont move around like a muppet,
shoot bullets to extend your power zone,
understand the sounds
dont be afraid of using your pods
and dont forget you can aim with the right analog stick

the only way to die is 1)getting caught with no power zone if that happens press A for a smart bomb
2) hit by a bullet
3) hit by a launched flower head
4) hit by lasers (but you don't have to worry about them for a while)
5) your own stupidity

ok im going to bed now bye bye

i need to go to the bathroom ~ me, many times

Really?!  Wow...and thanks!
The background is no longer too cluttered, and I can see everything clearly now!  Great!  Smile [:)]

Without being sarcastic.... the way I learnt the game is consentrate a bit at a time.  WATCH for the flowers (well, the stalks.  Easier to see) and LISTEN for everythign else.  It's increadable how much sound has to do with being able to pay this game.

Keep at it. You'll love the game again.  Then you'll get to level 25+ and hate it... then love it... then... you get the idea.

Seriously, you don't need it.  Later monsters add visual effects and you have to learn to see through them.

After a while you do, the synesthesia all begins to make sense and even level 64 (total mindfeck first time) starts to become clear.

Then you'll worry about what Minter's done to your brain.

You can't see what's going on because you're not supposed to... it's part of the challenge.  If you really have to tone down the effects, I've heard that muting the in game music/sound in the options will decrease how active some visualizations are since they react to the music.

Yup, best to turn off the music (but not the sound effects!) as that makes the Neon slightly less busy.

Lego Yoda is correct; sound is more important than what you see in SG. Cool [H]

Oh, and when you get to the mid-twenty levels, you'll meet Boffins.   Mwuhahahahaha!  Wink [;)]

OP, you should buy this.

But you will get better by listening to what your bullets are hitting and trying to keep your perception intact. I will accept that this game is very much an acquired taste though, so I won't call you dumb for not liking it.

I'd be embarrassed if I was the original poster of this thread.

It's not the game's fault you aren't very good.

And I'd be embarrassed if I was as ignorant as you. The OP said he wasn't that good and that he was here for help. Learn to read before posting your worthless opinion. (And what makes this opinion more worthwhile than yours? I'M RIGHT)

Betreff: Re: Just venting - I hate Space Giraffe
Hello.

Ive downloaded Space Giraffe a few days ago, played it, and thought s.th. like "What a bullshit, I cant see anything!". A review on IGN told me, that its "poor" - so I believed it and felt better. A few days later I was thinking about why that game only got a "poor" by IGN, but the average rating of readers says s.th. nearby  "Superb" ...So I downloaded the game again and played it again----and played it again like Tempest. I sucked again - of course. After a few retries (the points "told" me, that I was playing kind of wrong), I got the mechanics. Playing slower and playing with the power zone took me to level 7 so far with a acceptable scoring.

Someone on IGN said, a poor rating on this game only occurs if gamers / playtesters didnt get the "real" mechanics of this game. I second this. Its true. Its definately a game of 4 stars or 80% imo. Enjoying it now :) You should give it a try too - or go and buy Tempest :)

Greetings. -Lohengriehn
