Just like the 3 red light club, this club is for those who had a broken disc drive on their 360. Just post what happened and what you did.
My disc drive broke in the middle of playing Call of Duty 3 in March. It made a weird buzzing noise, and said rite there the disc was unreadable. Eventually, the disc tray refused to stay closed. I sent it in, and got a new console a week or two later.
I never got three red lights, so its a totally different problem... post your stories! Thanks!

Warrenty almost run out so might have to get it sorted.
Antz N Pantz wrote:I can hear it make some kind of clicking noise, doesn't matter what game, and then it sounds like it stops spinning. Most of the games still play, but the music will drop out or some of the graphics will drop out. (ie. playing Forza 2, disc stops spinning? and the track disappears for a few seconds. I was driving on a black strip instead of a track) Usually if I pop out to the dashboard and start the game again, it will start spinning again, but it goes out again after a while...randomly it seems. No damage to the disks, very strange. Any ideas?
Im on console number five (when it arrives) & ive had three dvd drive failures now..
Technomancer AK wrote:My CD Tray just recently started to not stay closed when a disk is inserted. The trick to get it to take for me is that when it closes the powerlight will blink as its trying to acquire the disc. After a few seconds it ejects the disc tray. when the disc tray is about 2 inches out I hit the eject button and it closes back up and it works after that. It does it for nearly every disc doesn't matter as long as there is a disc in the drive. I've got my 360 is a well ventilated area, and its pretty much sat in that spot the whole time I've owned it (about 8 months now).
Mine has gone. it just wont stay shut after I turned it on one day. Heaven forbid, I do anything serious. Just turned the git on.
Microsoft want me to pay £80 as its out of warranty. I dont want a PS3 but if it had games out, I would buy one tomorrow as this is my 3rd 360 now which is apalling. What do we put up with this? They claim its 5% error - all my friends are out at least their second 360. Microsoft - you are tnot being up front about all this.

When the XBOX 360 Console is cold, the Game DVD will be read, but the graphics are not loaded correctly and you hear a strange noise. After 1 hour playing, you hear that the DVD Drive interrupts spinning. And a few minutes later i get the message :"to play this disc put it in an XBOX 360 Console". No matter what Game DVD i put into the drive, i get this message, or the disc will be loaded but after a few minute's the screen goes black and i get the message that the disc can't be read.
I send now my XBOX 360 to Repair Center, my Warranty is intact.
SwizzleStick83 wrote:Occasionally my disc drive will make some strange noises;however, it still works fine. On Gears of War, the drive will click and then I'll get the "Disc is unreadable" error. It's the only game that does it. Once I restart the system, it plays fine. It only happens about once a month.

Thanks! My original 360 started with a brief click here and there which eventually turned into a buzzing sound which shortly thereafter turned into a grinding noise. Seeing as how the dvd sits practically on top of the gpu which by all accounts gets extremely hot within seconds, its no wonder that the 360s dvd drive's are plagued with problems.Purchased Original 360 console: Dec 2006Problems begin: 3-4 months later with: E74 error, constant freezing, few more months later dvd grinding sound.Sent in for "repairs": June 01, 2007Recieved refurbished back: June 18, 2007, DEAD upon arrivial ("Unplayable disk" error!!)Currently awaiting for another "coffin" to arrive.100% defect rate!

Skiz,
#1 I dont know the answer to that.
#2 and #3 If you keep your hard drive and they send you a new console, any content you purchase on Live will be available on your new box as long as you are online and connected to live. The media verifys with both the harddrive and the console, however, they are linked using the live account. Therefore, unless you are online, you wont be able to use the media you paid for. Which stinks.
