It's a retro arcade game, dude, not Gears or Bioshock...

For a game that is over 25 years old, I believe it is a very close translation to the original arcade game. Sure the control scheme is different, but it does get easier the more you use it. For the 400 MS points, well worth it.

Next up I would like to see NBA Jam.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder what the younger players think of the ports of these old arcade games.
When I think of the number of all the dollars I dumped into them (and that was when 1 play was 1 quarter, not a dollar or more!)

Man this is the Original TRON. This game was the Shizzz back in the day. People were TRON crazy for years because of the Movie/Game. Take into consideration that this game is over 25 years old. I'm just waiting for you to say Asteroids is garbage, or Missle Command. I grew up with this stuff.

It's not a fair representation of the original coin-op. I built a MAME cab for TRON a few years back complete with spinner, importing the parts cost me an arm and a leg.

 

The sound in this XBLA version is terrible. And the controls, I don't know what happened there, control scheme 'C' is the best of a bad bunch. I love the original game more than I should, but I just can't bring myself to play this version, it makes me visibly wince. The emulation must be at fault here (it even has the little bugged graphic in the top right corner just as it should).

 

Still, it's better than nothing. A local 2 player light cycle mode would have been nice consindering how easy it is to throw together a game of 'Nibbler'.

 

Certainly TRON XBLA appears to be worst implemented title I've played so far.

I agree with one I own the original tron it is very different I am ok with the looks but gameplay play is sketchy love ya xbla but you should issue refunds for this one .............s

This game is exactly like the old arcade game like it should be! I loved this game back in the day, this took most of money along with Return of the Jedi.

Nah, games were just simple. Asteroids has a sleek and simple charm to its look. Space Invaders has a lot of personality in the aliens, considering how old it is. Pac-Man still looks good. Tron was just never much of a looker.

I'd just like to say I never played Tron until I downloaded it, but I know if I'd been a yound 'un I'd have loved it in 1983 or whenever it was released (just before I was born). I think it is an actual state of mind - some people appreciate retro games for being of their time, which is where i stand. Others have an equally good argument that the space and time used to get these old games onto XBLA would be better used to develop new games.

But then, you can't argue with the sales figures can you?

I downloaded the demo for this and found it confusing

The 1st level there was a rainbow thing moving toward me that I had to shoot, i got that

then 2nd level there is like 2 racecars and i found it really confusing, just kept crashing

3rd level is i have to shoot a circle and little spiders, kept shooting circle and spiders.  Eventually died from spiders even though i kept hitting circle

I can't really say it was bad, but definitely confusing

Try walking into the circle once....magical things start to happen!!

Okay i played the demo some more and beat the level with spiders and the rainbow cone

Now I'm stuck on the tank level and the racecar level

The first game system I saw when I was four was Colecovision so I could probably only stand Carnival, Donkey Kong and Venture- its hard for me to play these older games other than SNES onwards.

Some real old school games are just classics that are timeless fun like Pacman etc but there is definitely a nostalgia/niche thing going on with the older games. I can understand how someone who didn't growup playing these games would be unimpressed and uninterested with them. Back in the day these games were "amazing state of the art", and a lot of us were into them. Having them now, the full coinop version as a file on your xbox360's hdd is awesome imo.

Agreed.  I spent 5 bucks in a single sitting of Tron 20 years ago, easy.
